Now I'm wondering why I didn't take the leap sooner! The staff at The Chiro Place - Southaven have made me feel so welcomed and so comfortable since day 1. The office is ALWAYS spotless/smells good and there is usually music playing. It makes me feel relaxed/happy and I leave feeling so refreshed. Dr. Black is so personable and very knowledgeable about the care she gives. I look forward to my appointments and the relief they bring. I can't wait to see what shape I'm in once I'm closer to graduation. If you are in need of a chiropractor, consider The Chiro Place. They work on all ages :)

I returned recently because I needed to be examined in order to receive documentation for light-duty work requirements. Since the change in ownership and physician, my experience was completely different. The new doctor required me to go through an unnecessarily lengthy course of care simply to obtain paperwork stating that I needed light duty. When I finally received the paperwork, it was inaccurate. The doctor agreed to revise it. When I returned for the revision, I was asked to sign in for treatment. I explained that I was scheduled only to pick up revised documentation and was not there to receive treatment. After I refused to sign in for treatment, I was told that paying patients would not be delayed and that I would need to return at a later time. When I returned on the rescheduled date to pick up the corrected paperwork, I was informed that the doctor would not sign it, stating there was "nothing in it for her" and claiming that I had stopped responding to calls and treatment. This only reinforced my concern that my care was not the priority, but rather the financial aspect. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this location.

Over the years, I have had up and down experiences with Laurelwood. Here are my pros and cons: PROS: Friendly staff Great nurses Docs come highly recommended CONS: Our doctor is lovely but I feel like she's given me very limited options over the years to treat my sons autism and severe ADHD. Talking to other mothers, I felt like there were other options but when I brought them up, she always suggested staying the route. She referred us to a psychiatrist once but that was not a good experience. I once asked her if we could consult with another doctor in the practice because I had seen several articles he and others had written about his expertise with autistic kids. She took offense to my question and said she was the "autism expert" at Laurelwood. I did not like that and considered it to be very unprofessional. If your child is well and has no disabilities, I could see why you think this practice is perfect. However, if your child is sick on a regular basis or has disabilities, I would suggest finding a pediatrician who is open to trying everything possible to help your child.

Recently, a family member was admitted, so now I'm part of the journey that most never even want to imagine could happen to them. In the midst of the grief and anxiety, I've learned many things, most of which will go unreported in this review. For yelp purposes, I'll note: 1.) I never have met so many compassionate and competent people in one day, and I visit medical-care settings as a regular part of my work. The chief example is the surgeon who spent more than one hour with my family in a post-surgery consult. Who does that? Most procedures for family, I'm lucky if I get a phone call that lasts up to sixty seconds. The kindness extends all the way to cafeteria workers and valet-parking attendants. 2.) It's really true that the family does not receive a bill. Sure, the hospital will pursue every insurance reimbursement possibility. But, in the end, the family will owe $0. If we could make this happen for every life-changing medical crisis in our nation, I can't help but believe there would be so much less grief, and so much more energy released for healing and productivity. 3.) As I've shared our story, I've found many people in communities near and far support St. Jude with regular donations or special fundraisers. From the grandfather of current patient, please know how impressed I am by the breadth and depth of support. Those of you who support SJCRH are doing a great service to children from near and far. However, I mainly only saw the physical therapist's assistant, Lindsay, which was different from other PT clinics I've been to. Lindsay was very rude and rushed me in and out as quick as she could for every appointment. One time, she even went as far as to clap at me and raise her voice to try and get my attention from across the room while she was with another patient at the same time. You certainly don't get individualized care here, but I enjoyed the clinic and Josh.

However, I decided I wanted to be surrounded by professionals with expertise in both baby and mom care, and I'm so glad I chose Baptist. Arrival & First Impressions: When I arrived, I wasn't sure if I was in active labor or not, but I quickly learned I was. After being checked, I was immediately moved into a labor and delivery room. My first nurse, Paige, was incredibly encouraging. She reassured me that I could deliver without an epidural, especially since I was already 5cm dilated and not in much pain. Nurse Transition: Paige let me know her shift was ending and introduced me to the nurses who would take over. By this point, I was 8cm dilated, and the new team--Lisa (Charge Nurse), Sierra (RN), Lindsey (Unit Manager), and Dr. Owens--made me feel confident and supported. I didn't experience pain until they had to break my water at 9cm. Delivery: Dr. Owens and her team delivered my baby. I labored for 6 hours, and after 3 pushes, my baby was born. They were very clear with instructions, guiding me through the process by counting and telling me when to push. My husband was able to cut the umbilical cord, and they immediately placed my baby on me for skin-to-skin. I was also able to opt out of having my baby bathed right away, which meant a lot to me. Post-Delivery Care: After birth, I was transferred to a new room and introduced to my new nurses and lactation specialist. Kacee, the lactation consultant, was fantastic in helping me get the baby to latch, and Amy, the nurse, assisted me when Kacee wasn't available. I also want to give a shoutout to the other nurses during shift changes--Dakeila, Lanitra (who provided amazing resources and support, especially after my baby had to go to the NICU), and Patient Care Assistants Denita and Hieu. NICU Care: My baby had some low oxygen levels after feeding, so the nurses transferred her to the NICU. Heidi, the nurse, was wonderful and made my husband and I feel at ease during a stressful time. Her empathy and positive energy helped us through a scary situation. Follow-up: We were discharged after three days, and the doctors called us after two days at home to check in and make sure we had everything we needed for our baby, while also ensuring I was recovering well. Overall, my experience at Baptist was incredibly positive. While I know every nurse and situation is different, each of the nurses I interacted with made me feel comfortable and never like a burden, even when I had many questions. I am truly grateful for the care we received, and I hope that all families receive the same level of care that I did. It took away all of my fears and anxieties about delivering in a hospital. In short, I do not recommend this medical office. No need to go through a similar experience to…read morewhat I had. Went in for an annual checkup and was charged for something completely different. I attempted to get it corrected as I thought it was obviously a mistake and was disappointed at every level dealing with the bureaucratic system they have in place. A total waste of time given the simplistic and correct solution. To provide detail, I had a yearly checkup and even had my bloodwork done previously to my visit so I could discuss with the doctor during my check up. During my visit I discussed my health in general, I also was able to ask questions about my bloodwork since I already had the results prior to the appointment. During the visit I discussed some allergies I've been having and was referred to allergist. There were no diagnoses, testing, prescriptions provided or follow up visits scheduled, only a recommendation that I should visit an allergist. After receiving my bill, it listed that I was seen as an outpatient and when calling the billing department I was advised this is one of the more expensive ways to be seen. I explained that I went in for an annual checkup and they agreed to send back to the office for recoding. After not hearing anything back for several weeks I reached out again requesting to speak with the practice manager to ensure this would be corrected. After speaking with the practice manager she explained that although it was coded incorrectly, that since I spoke about an allergy I will be charged for the annual check up and an allergy visit as well. She further explains the policy is posted in the room about how yearly checkups don't cover health issues you may have and made it sound like she's helping me out by just charging the additional allergy visit along with my checkup. She also said that I spent 50 minutes with the doctor, it was under 25 minutes. This is such a red flag in itself that the amount of time was extremely exaggerated in an attempt to make me feel I spent too much time with the doctor. I think I understand what's going on, it was not a typical 10 minute visit since I already had my bloodwork and was able to inquire about the results. Very deceptive and unfair not to advise a patient about this policy when the patient expects to speak about current health issues with the doctor during an annual checkup. At the very least, clinics should be required to be explain during checkin if you have an annual checkup that you're not allowed to discuss health related issues without incurring additional charges especially if there is not testing or additional appointments needed. At any rate, a company that charges services that are not transparent should not be trusted with your health. Even with the current state of our healthcare this is a surprise that any company would risk alienating their customers over what would appear to be a straightforward ethical practice. Additionally today I received a voice mail from the billing department that they are leaving the coding as it was originally charged as an outpatient?? $400+ dollars for an outpatient charge for what was an annual checkup. So unethical.
