And he was right! We did end up adding to the project because when we looked at the amazing new paint job next to existing paint, we wanted to paint more of the exterior, and his painters happily accommodated our requests. The final job looks amazing and the additional work was at minimal additional cost. I actually told him we should pay him more (he refused) - his guys did such a great job! The quote's own terms state it's based on spraying "siding, soffits and fascia," and nowhere does it list soffits as excluded or as a separate charge. Despite that, after the crew painted the soffits we were told this was an extra not covered in the estimate -- to the tune of an additional $4,000, pushing the job to ~$14,000. That's a 40% increase for the soffits alone. The soffit charge was larger than the entire house siding line item on our quote. What bothered us most: no one told us the soffits would be a significant additional charge before painting them. We handed over a color and the crew proceeded. We were never given the chance to approve a number that large. When we questioned it, the justifications were the home's height and the aluminum needing two coats... But the crew was already working at that same height to paint the siding and trim, and two coats was standard across the whole job. We're not unwilling to pay for legitimate extra work, and we said so repeatedly. But multiple attempts to discuss this with the owner, Taylor Green, went nowhere. Every conversation was met with nothing but demands to pay the outstanding balance, with no willingness to explain or discuss the charge. A charge of this size, with no heads-up and no good-faith discussion, isn't how a job this expensive should be handled. If you hire them, get every surface you expect painted listed explicitly on the quote, and get any change order in writing with a price before work proceeds.

He also patched several holes left open due to moved electrical outlets with the largest being about 4"x4". I cannot tell anything was ever there! Once all the prep was done, Henry painted and caulked to perfection. While he costs a bit more than most, he was well worth it and I would hire him again!
