Had Gonzalez come paint my house a couple months ago. They did a good job and listened to what I wanted.

House painting is more than cosmetic, primer and paint protects siding in particular from damage. I have older siding, some of which was replaced due to water damage, I wanted to protect what was remaining. The Gonzalez contract stated scraping of old paint is included, but the team refused to scrape paint off my siding saying they don't do that. I brought it up with the foreman multiple times. Well, most of the exterior of my house is siding, so I would never have signed the contract if that was stated at the outset. See the attached photo for how they just spray paint over peeling paint. I called the owner and left a message but there was no return call. I won't get into other issues, but for this reason alone, I am giving 1 star. read more

I used Gonzalez for my roofing job. I met with three companies that were recommended by friends. I chose Gonzalez for several reasons. Company reputation, professionalism on the service call, warranty, and price. Eduardo showed up when scheduled and walked me through their process. He talked about how they a local company with 25 years of experience, emphasized the involvement in the community, I had done a lot of research and he answered my questions on their work and their materials. About my roof--steep pitch, 4 stories on one area, colonial style dormers, chimney, and the roof had been over-shingled by a previous owner. The over shingling means two layers of shingles to remove and it is prone to leakage that is difficult to detect. Gonzalez anticipated this and factored in the cost of new plywood in the edge areas most likely to have damage. My house is at the bottom of a steep drive so I had the advantage of being able to see my roof as it was being worked on. The plywood was really damaged in sections, but they skillfully morticed in new wood. The project manager Juan met with us beforehand to choose shingles in person for accurate color, and walked me through all the materials, from underlayment, vent boots, to ridge vents, explaining why they used them versus other materials and this aligned with my research. The crew arrived on time each day and worked efficiently. They identified problem areas as they worked (40 year old flashing on 2 skylights and redid them at no extra charge.) I have a ton of plants around my house and the work was done with minimal damage to them, and clean up after the work was completed was very well done. Highly recommend. read more

We hired Gonzales to fix a leak in our roof. While there was a bit of confusion in service first time around, but we told them of our expectations and they realized and promptly came back and redid the work to meet our expectations without any issue. The price is reasonable and roof leak did successfully stop (it been few months and it has rained quite a bit). So I am glad this problem hopefully has been solved for few years for now. read more

We wanted to repaint our living room, two-story foyer, hallway and laundry room recently and chose Gonzalez Painters based on reviews and price. What a great decision! Edil was great with the initial walkthrough and quote, very friendly and helpful. We scheduled out a few weeks due to some other work we were having done but they gave us the flexibility to pull the job in sooner when that option arose. Eduard and his crew knocked the job out in two days! They were friendly, efficient, made relatively little mess (you expect some mess with painting and drywall work), and did an excellent job. started outgoing beyond expectations and then it went downhill. They wallpapered a laundry command did a good job but did not leave leftover wallpaper. I then had them paint a downstairs room. I specified the paint which was in the estimate and (my fault) because I trusted the, I did not verify. They used an inferior paint, no rebate, did a very sloppy job (damaged shades with paint and paint running down the wall) and my husband and I had to come after them and smooth out paint and put fans in the room. A true professional would not do this. They are very nice and I will NEVER use them again. read more

I received a personal referral to Gonzalez Painters & Contractors. The project we lined up was for gutters and guards. First, always get one or two additional estimates. If you are a veteran, be sure to communicate this for 10% discount and hopefully the estimate is not increased and no tangible discount. The estimator was on time, actually earlier than expected. Took the time to show me what was entailed in the estimate. I already had a prior estimate, so I knew precisely what was expected and the comparison of same product. However, the estimator and salesperson provided information that made us re-evaluate the type of guard that would best suit our needs virtually maintenance free and referred us to their online video. This individual answered our questions and sent pictures of the product and brought a sample of the gutter with guard to see it as we could not see it once installed. Basically, 3 estimates, and narrowed down to 2 local companies both personal referrals. We had a specific date due to project commencement on our home. Two estimates were within a few hundred dollars; however, the guards were very different! Therefore, we opted for the one closer to our budget although a few hundred bucks above our budget plan. We convinced ourselves this is gutters and guards and would increase efficiency and piece of mind prior to hurricane or the rainy season. Installed new gutters with leafblaster pro guards....the aluminum guards can let debris accumulate and we anticipated a different version but the contractor mentioned this was superior quality to keep squirrels from digging as I noticed squirrels bury their nuts in the neighbors gutters who think that is cute! Not sure of the reason behind a project manager as it just adds more homeower downtime. Somehow between the project manager and scheduling there was a miscommunication as I signed contract with commencement on Monday with minimal flexibility to Wednesday prior to Saturday project. Eventually a crew of 2 showed up. We did NOT realize until afterwards, the company used a subcontractor for our gutter and guards! Seemed okay and installed before Tropical Storm Debby. The sound of rain is very muted from prior gutters without guards. However, less than 30 days, we noticed 2 areas where the installation might have a problem and now chasing the project manager and subcontractor who told me it would be taken care of this week which it has not! I sent follow up emails and phone calls, very unacceptable to say it will be resolved but at this point it has not! Hopefully the owner will get email and/or see the review and reach out. read more

From the initial contact to the estimate process to the painters who came to the house, by far the best painter experience I've ever had. I do not say this lightly. The gentleman that came to provide the estimate was awesome, walking through my home and identifying some issues with the previous paint job that his painters would also help touch up. When the painters showed up, they were very meticulous in their efforts to cover the floor, furniture, etc...to ensure no damage and only when that was ready, did they begin to paint. The three painters worked so well together and knocked out some fairly complex 2-story walls...making it look easy. Hiring Gonzalez to paint the interior of my home was one of the greatest mistakes I've ever made. If I could rate this company 0 stars, I wouldn't hesitate. They effectively gave me the "landlord special". The craftsmanship was awful, the attention to detail was nonexistent, and they increased the amount of the job by 30% after contracts were already signed and they'd begun the job - thereby holding me hostage in an Airbnb until I agreed to an entirely new price. To top it all off, they were rude and difficult to deal with. Months later, I'm still finding areas of my home where they took shortcuts: chipped and peeling paint, large swaths of trim left unpainted, fixtures not painted underneath like I'd requested several times throughout the process, paint all over places it shouldn't be (like windows and hardware). They painted over every vent in the house when I specifically asked them not to, and continued even after I flagged the mistake by email and in person. Whenever we spoke, the Project Manager didn't take notes, so I'm not surprised that every last preference I expressed was ignored. Trusting Gonzalez was an error in judgment and a huge disappointment. I'm still mourning the loss of all the money, time and energy I threw out the window. Months later and the pain has only worsened as the paint has begun peeling in many places due to poor prep. I wish the paint peeling was on our ceiling light fixtures that they just painted over instead of removing but it's not, it's on the ceiling and walls. read more

I had a tight timeframe and needed painters to do the entire interior of my house plus a touch of exterior work. I was given a personal recommendation for Gonzalez and they offered me a competitive quote. I contacted them to confirm if they could meet my timeframe. I was disappointed when the salesperson refused to confirm their availability until I accepted the quote, which I did not do. Instead, I tried to see if someone else had availability. The next day, I got a call from a project manager saying they would be able to start in the next couple of days to meet my timeframe. I gladly accepted and signed the estimate. We hired Gonzalez Painters and Contractors Inc. located in Durham, NC to repaint the exterior of our two story farm house. Unfortunately, we DID NOT get the "A" team to perform this work. An inexperienced paint crew sub-contractor was assigned. The crew leader, Victor H., did not lead his team to success. Instead, Victor spent a lot of time on-site sitting in his van. Another day he performed automotive work for 2 hours on a vehicle that came on-site (private property I might add). This vehicle and person was not associated with or part of the paint crew. Towards the end of this job, Victor placed his personal business magnet on his van and recorded a video that he posted on his personal business social media (TikTok) account taking full credit for the work (again private property). Gonzalez Painting appears to put much more emphasis on production and marketing rather than quality of work. Just my opinion, it doesn't matter what or how you present on the front end if the end results is poor quality of work. Other Gonzalez jobs we have seen in progress have actual Gonzalez vehicles on-site and paint crews that are wearing clothing that identifies them as Gonzalez. That wasn't the case with our job. I guess Gonzalez decided our job was on the fringe of their service area and the poor quality/outcome would not impact their business. Just another inexperienced paint crew who appear to have multiple business magnets to change around on their vehicles depending on the job. When the crew was taping plastic over the windows, one guy intentionally sprayed the plastic in the center of the window where an inside security camera is located by spraying the plastic in the exact location of the camera making the camera totally nonfunctional for it's intended purposes (duh, cameras do record video). Totally unacceptable conduct. Needless to say, at the final inspection/walk through of this job, the lack of attention of the Project Manager (Ruby), the crew leader's lack of attention, poor quality of work, or care revealed a good portion of the scope of work was incomplete. There was also areas of overspray. Gonzalez sent the same sub-crew back out to address what had not been done. The overspray was not corrected. As an out, Gonzalez's management (Javier) extended a discount to us to compensate for the overspray. Since we didn't want Gonzalez to do any further damage or work for us, it was in our best interest to accept the discount and move on. Overall, our home and property was treated inferior and disrespectful. The skill level of the crew Gonzalez sent to perform this job did not match the GPC-Way or Gonzalez's strong marketing campaign. Extremely disappointing. Gonzalez Painting in Durham, NC seems to place more emphasis on marketing and production than quality of work. Painting began peeling from Gonzalez's work only a few months afterwards due to lack of sufficient prep! Would most definitely NOT hire again. read more
