Pittsburgh Paws Pet Resort offers services such as a dog daycare, a dog hotel, a cat hotel, and dog baths. I kept one of my cats here from September 19 and October 7 while I was on a foreign vacation. Months in advance, in April, I messaged this business to ask if they could board my three cats and administer a few medications such as "subcutaneous lactated-ringers fluid" for one cat who has stage-2 kidney disease. The owner replied, "Yes, we are able to provide the requested services" and "$25/pouch injection." In May, the owner and I again emailed each other, and she confirmed the services and prices. I decided to board only the one cat who needed medications and to keep the other two cats at home with my friend. On the business's website, I completed a registration form that asked about my cat's medical conditions, medications, veterinarian's contact information, and the cat's health documents. In September, the business and I emailed each other to confirm the dates of stay, the foods, and medications. The next day, hours before my husband and I would leave for our foreign vacation, we took our cat, carrier, food, and medications to the business for her to begin her stay. About 45 minutes after we left the business, two employees called us and said that they had never administered subcutaneous lactated ringers and did not know how to do it! My husband and I turned around our vehicle and drove another 45 minutes back. The owner should not have told us months earlier that that service is provided, and the employees should have told us when we dropped off the cat and supplies. At this point, I was considering keeping my cat at home with my other two cats and friend, but the employees told me that they could administer the lactated ringer's if I set up the bag, tubing, and needle. They said that they knew how to administer insulin injections, which also goes into subcutaneous tissue such as the scruff of the neck. They spoke nicely to us, and I appreciate that they were willing to try. My husband and I went on our foreign vacation. Our cat stayed in a small, multi-level cat condo, and she was occasionally allowed to roam around the larger room. On one day, an employee sent an email update about the cat. The employee tried to administer the lactated ringers and was able to give it one time in the 19 days. That medication was the entire reason why we kept the cat here. The total cost for the stay was $475. After we picked up the cat, she was vomiting more than usual, was dehydrated, and had much worse laboratory values. I will have empathy for the employees and will appreciate their efforts. I rarely write 2-star reviews, but the owner should not have told us that her business can administer subcutaneous lactated ringers. read more

I saw a negative review this morning about this wonderful facility, and after reading it, my opinion is that the entire thing was an elaborate figment of someone's vivid imagination, a smear job made up for who knows what reason. That said, I used to train and show English mastiffs and now I have multiple little dogs as pets. I have seen and utilized many doggy day care centers, and Pgh Paws Pet Resort is excellent and a model for others to follow. What is especially different is the level of personal care and bonding each dog receives from caregivers there. The ratio of caregiver to dog is excellent and the dogs are separated into groups according to size and temperament. One of my pups is getting pretty old, and he has a whole little group of "elderlies" who hang out together and nap. When the group is rowdy, the elderlies are given their own space so they can relax without being bumped. My dogs have rarely been so excited to be dropped off for "puppy play school" as they are here. I feel lucky that they even want to come home! read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE. My dog stayed here for a week and when I picked him up he was very sick and coughing. Vet told me his condition was very serious and it was a good thing I brought him in. Staff and owner said he wasn't sick the whole time he was there and tried telling me he must of just became sick. When I explained his sickness, the owner said "oh he'll be fine." Such compassion, thanks. Complete bullshit, own up to your short comings instead of trying to save your ass. Go ahead jen, continue to be a shitty owner and make more excuses for your incompetent staff. :) read more

Every one at Pittsburgh Paws is super nice. We boarded our special needs dog here for about five days and they were so accommodating. When his bratty self wouldn't eat the first couple of feedings, they called to let me know and continued to keep me up to date. The staff is great. read more

We take our Daisy here frequently so that she can play off-leash with other dogs in a controlled setting. She always comes back clean, tired, and very happy! The staff recognizes her and posts pictures of the dogs throughout the day so we can be sure she's enjoying herself. Please ignore the few bad reviews on this page, those situations simply aren't possible with the way the dogs are taken care of here! If I could give any more than five stars I would. read more

Miscommunication between us and the new manager occurred on pricing. Pricing is laid out, however, it was relayed differently than what we were told. So the cost of the entire boarding was about $100 more than what we discussed with the new manager. We also were never told that we needed to call 2 hours before our pick up for baths. Thankfully the dogs just happened to be bathed in the AM which we got lucky with. The owner, Jenn, just kept repeating pricing to me which not only made it frustrating but genuinely didn't think she was listening to me. It's been a LONG day of traveling and this whole experience of picking up the dogs was just a complete headache. Not to mention, there's no email that I got from the business that stated to drop my dog off before 8am (but during business hours) would be an additional $10. Between the miscommunication and the way Jenn just didn't care to listen made it very clear she was not trying to have a returning customer. Definitely won't be returning for the sheer fact of customer service could be better. Ps. Don't ask a customer what you could do better and then tell the customer where they're wrong... In response to Jenn's statement...you asked what you could do better then proceeded to reiterate the prices and in no way were helpful. As a fellow business owner,I understand what it takes to put your heart and soul into something and I would have handled the situation in a different way. We'll keep them at the dog stop, it's always suited us better but thought off a recommendation we'd try you. Dogs are the main concern but people are your main customers. read more

I usually bring my dog here 2 times a week. My dog is a rescue- not sure what she went through before I got her, but she can be very skittish and weary of people. Not at Pittsburgh Paws Pet Resort. Once my dog enters the door, she immediately rolls on her back for a belly rub- while SHE is being greeted excitedly by the staff. I take so much comfort in knowing my dog is loved by the staff. Also- my dog loves to roll in anything stinky. She is really good at getting it in her collar. It's the worst. But- the staff makes sure to wash her every time it happens- and they apologize, even though I wouldn't know because of how well they wash her. I love my dog and would definitely classify myself as an obsessive dog mom. She has been boarded here and always does really well. All of that being said- she's a dog. She goes here to play. She sometimes gets a little dirty and sometimes with drool on her. It's to be expected. If you're taking your dog to a new place, it takes time for them to adjust. I don't think the bad reviews do justice for the great quality of care Pittsburgh Paws Pet Resort provides. I also love that Pittsburgh Paws Pet Resort posts pictures and videos on their social media!!! So pleased with this place and how they love my dog like she is their own. read more

After 5 nights at the Sewickley location, our 2 dogs were smelly, crusty eyed, and had hardened feces stuck to their fur.   Upon drop-off, we informed the staff that we would be picking up the dogs on Sunday night (1 night earlier than was listed on the original reservation).  Staff agreed to accommodate this request.  However, when I arrived Sunday evening, the staff were taken aback and claimed they were not expecting me until the following day.  They warned that the dogs would be smelly, but I could not imagine the condition the dogs were in.  Both dogs reeked and had LARGE, hardened feces attached to their fur.  Their eyes were crusty and bloodshot.   It was heartbreaking to see them like this.  The staff never offered to bathe them and did not seem to be too phased by their condition. When talking to the owner and telling her that our dogs have never been in such poor condition after boarding, she got defensive.  She kept saying that they would have been bathed the next morning before the scheduled pick-up time.  Even if the kennel was not expecting us, it is incredibly disappointing that they think its acceptable to neglect dogs that way - allowing fecal matter to harden on them and have their eyes practically sealed shut.  With the condition of our dogs overlooked, it makes me wonder what bacteria they were exposed to and the lack of sanitary conditions at the kennel.   Think twice before you kennel here! read more

I started taking my dogs to Pittsburgh Paws in Sewickley when they were about 6 months old. I was nervous boarding them so young but Pittsburgh Paws is amazing. I have two labs who can be crazy and worried how they would do in daycare and boarding. When I would pick them up, they never wanted to leave. When we were arriving, they would start getting excited about a mile out when they smelled where we were. I've recommended Pittsburgh Paws to several people. I was happy that I could tell my dogs were enjoying it. The only reason we don't use Pittsburgh Paws is we moved out of state. After using a kennel in our new location and having a terrible experience, I realized how lucky we were in Pittsburgh to have such a wonderful daycare and kennel where I could go on vacation and not worry about my girls. We will likely take them back to Pittsburgh Paws when we're back in town rather than trying to board them elsewhere because we know we can trust the owner and staff. read more

I am so incredibly impressed with this place. We took our 7 month old Golden, Macie, here today for the first time. She doesn't get a ton of time with other dogs, so we wanted to give her that chance to play off leash more often. First off, I am a crazy dog mom. I'm obsessed with her and she is essentially my baby, so I am extremely particular with everything. She has always been really prone to getting sick, so I spent months holding off on taking her to daycare because I hadn't found a place that I trusted to be clean (and I don't just mean basic clean. I mean like ACTUALLY clean and sanitized) and also kind to the animals. This place came recommended to us after much searching and we are so glad we gave it a try. They spent time on the phone with me going through all my questions, took us on a tour the next day (which, btw, the whole place was spotless after a full day of dogs playing). They ensure that all the pups are vaccinated and bleach/ sanitize the whole building every day. We brought Macie in for her first day and they were welcoming, open, and honest with us. They allowed her to go at her own pace (apparently she was a bit shy and nervous) and let her play in the area she was comfortable in rather than forcing her to play in this area or that. They gave her the opportunity to choose. The pictures they posted made my day. She came home exhausted but happy, clean (minus the expected dog slobber from playing all day), hydrated, and healthy. This place is the complete opposite direction from work for us. But we don't even care. We will absolutely be bringing her back. I'm a new Doberman mom and took my dog for a weekend to Pittsburgh paws pet resort. Me and snoop were very nervous about this stay. When I took him he was very scared. He did have a Incident that happen were he was bitten by another dog. I do not blame this dog or the resort. The owner contacted me and they took him right to the vet and he was treated for his bite. We've been going to PGH Paws since they've opened and its hands down the best option in Pittsburgh. We love Jen and her staff. I needed a place for my two kitties to stay because I was hosting a party at my place, and one of my cats would have been way overstimulated/anxious with so many strangers in the house. (And would not have taken well to holing up in the spare bedroom for the duration. Trust me.) I decided that the best thing for all of us would be to board them for the evening, and I was very pleased when I saw that Pittsburgh Paws Pet Resort also takes cats. The process to register them and check-in was very smooth. The cattery is behind the check-in desk in a separate room from the dog area, with a large window so you can see inside from the lobby area. From my vantage point, it looked clean and well lit and most cats seemed to be snoozing. Their cages are several feet high and have multiple levels for the cats to lounge in. My two seemed none the worse for wear when I went to pick them up, so if I ever have an occasion where they need to stay outside the house again, I will surely look to come back. read more

My dog was one of the first dogs to visit this location & we were very loyal customers. We dropped our dog off at daycare at least 100 times & spoke wonders about this company & all they do for dogs. We showed up to pick him up one day & could distinctly hear his bark, which had never happened before. When we walked in we were told he was put in isolation, for who knows how long, because he was jumping out of excitement when seeing other dogs. Not to mention, the employee lectured me & pointed her finger in my face while proceeding to tell me how terrible our dog was acting. I was in shock, but completely infuriated with the way my dog & I were treated. This place preaches that they "let dogs be dogs", but our dog was isolated for simply jumping out of excitement. This company has lost our business entirely. Everyone we know has heard about this experience & have spread the word as well. It's a shame that as companies grow larger, they forget about loyalty & forget about treating customers with respect. read more
