While browsing the Carnegie farmer's market I came across a vendor who had this store's goods out…read morefront on a table for sale. There was a nice assortment of things to choose from including fingerless gloves and beautiful pottery mugs. They told me if I want to see more then head into the store. I did just that and got to meet up with the owner Eva and learn more about the business. Various artists from all over the country contribute their wares to this shop and some are even local. You can find most anything here from crafted "aliens" to wooden Nativity sets to various types of jewelry, glass, pottery and of course beautiful paintings that adorn the walls. Even Eva herself has some of her own works for sale here. There is so much to look at. She also told me some of the artists do charitable work and you can purchase things such as "cuff" bracelets that will signify the artist who created the piece. The drink mugs were beautiful and some of them had Bible verses on them. I was admiring a green one with a flower on the handle and then I learned that she hoped to get more selection in from this seller within the next week or so. I decided to hold off on my purchase until I saw what was coming in. Some of the merchandise can be pricey but it all depends up the work that is put into them. For example an artist, she was selling had hand drawn images of a few of Pittsburgh's landmarks as a cuff bracelet. It's a bit pricey but she told me all the labor that goes into making the design can be time consuming. They offer workshops and events from time to time. Most of the art is contemporary style with at least 20 different artists in emerging to mid career levels. Check out their on line shop if you want to learn more or make a purchase directly from your home. This shop is currently open Thurs-Sun only and of course you can walk in when the farmer's market is going on. Am definitely planning to return here so I can browse more of the collection. Situated on Main St near the Carnegie Coffee company, metered street parking is available across the street.

Their website says that the "gallery shop is an art exhibit all its own", and I agree 100%. There's a little bit of everything here - stickers, jewelry, ceramics, glassworks, bath and beauty products, illustrations, photography, paintings, woodwork...that's all here, laid out in a way that makes it easy for you to browse through the art medium(s) you wish to explore. With hundreds of artists being displayed here, it's super easy to browse and see what local makers are up to. Previously Artsmiths operated out of Mt. Lebanon, so if the name sounds familiar, it's because they were in another neighborhood for over a decade. A big reason they moved to Carnegie was that they were growing to a point that they wanted a better space to host their classes. Yes, the Artsmiths of Pittsburgh is more than a storefront - they're also an art center. Their classes will introduce you to mosaics, embroidery, and more. (If that sounds interesting to you, their website is the best place to keep up with their in-person classes, workshops, and camps.) With the holidays rolling up on us yet again, this is a business you'll absolutely want to visit; you're practically guaranteed to find the perfect gift for someone/multiple someones. I may be biased because I love pinball, but this exhibit is really cool (see photos), and you also get to play a real pinball machine ('Game of Thrones') which is set to freeplay, and is part of the exhibit. The artworks incorporate old, recycled, parts and pieces from pinball machines. I thought it was fascinating. And like I said, his place is really awesome for gifts, artworks, and all kinds of nic-nacs, books, stationary, and other fun stuff, most, if not all of it, made locally in the Pittsburgh area, and a lot of it, featuring a Pittsburgh theme. I was today years old when I learned about Double Dog Studios. Thanks to him, we found out about a really great hidden gem, and I now want everyone to know how cool this place is. This gallery / studio is located in a private home, yet the owners open it up to the public for art shows and special exhibits. They also have an on-site store. Everything here is so incredible, they did a fantabulous job in both restoring this place to grandeur, and filling it with incredible pieces of art. Look forward to coming back again soon ... The…read morestaff is consistently unfriendly, and there is one employee in particular who is outright rude to me and other customers every single time I visit. I have purchased a couple of canvases here in the past, but during my most recent visit, this staff member was so rude that I actually walked out right before making a purchase. They carry Penny Linn canvases and accessories, and while I love buying those in-person, I refuse to support a shop that treats people this way. It is incredibly disappointing--they even have an item in stock right now that is sold out everywhere online, but I would genuinely rather wait for another shop to restock it than give Beehive another dime. As a fairly new needlepointer, I just don't feel comfortable asking for help here. I used to come in for thread, but from now on, I will be buying online or driving further away to shops that actually welcome their customers.

What an experience. I received three needlepoint canvases from this store for Christmas and took…read morethem in on Saturday 1/24 to purchase the thread for each and to shop around as it was my first visit. After 30 minutes in the store, I was never greeted, checked on, or even smiled at. I watched as the staff said hello to everyone that walked in the door and approached most of them asking if they needed any help. There were at least four or five women working and there were plenty of opportunities for someone to say hello without going out of their way. Two of them pushed past me to help other customers and one glared at me after I smiled when we made eye contact. After 30 minutes, I walked out. I have never experienced anything like this. There are a few great needlepoint shops in the Pittsburgh area and you can definitely skip this one.

No additional signage, just a sign saying they open at 11:30 on Tuesdays. (Not 10, like Yelp/Google say.) I'm standing there at 2pm, staring at a 'closed' sign, with the open hours clearly saying they should be open while I'm standing there. I'm aware life will happen, but in that case, you post a sign saying why you're closed, and when you expect to be back. Like 'getting lunch, back at 1', 'closed early for vet appt' and so on. You don't just... do nothing. Honestly, speaking as a former small-shop-in-a-small-town owner myself, the lack of note or warning is disrespectful. If your hours aren't reliable, what does that say about the rest of your shop? Do you even care you're risking losing customers? And what certainty does the customer know you'll be open the next time they come by? If your hours are so changeable customers have to call ahead to see if you're open, then don't bother promising them hours you don't intend to keep. Just say Sun-Sat, open by appointment, please call ahead.

I always buy something when I'm here, and I always have to remind myself not to buy every beautiful thing I see. Even though I really want to! This is a little shop so with all the goodies on display, parts of it are pretty cozy. While this means I'm always very careful with my bags (I don't want to knock things down!), I don't mind. It's certainly not a bad thing to take my time in here looking through the shelves and racks of goodies. Funny magnets, cute greeting cards, pretty jewelry, eye-catching notebooks, colorful paperweights, unique stationery...the list of things here almost feels neverending. Often during visits I also take time to chat with the owner, who is a delight to speak with and who always makes me laugh with her stories and humor. As someone who doesn't usually like chatting while browsing and shopping, I think it says a lot about the store as a whole that I'm able to relax that much while I'm in here. I definitely look forward to future visits here, and I also recommend this shop for your own shopping needs! From custom designs to sweet gifts to snarky greeting cards, there's definitely something here for you, a family member, or a friend.
