Spaetzel
Kristen B.

LOVED this restaurant / pub ***AMBIANCE*** Very classy and not too loud but all of the tables are mostly full! They had nice " elevator " music playing ***FOOD*** Amazing! It was the best spaetzel I have ever had! The mushrooms had a flavor I have never had and it definitely had plenty of umami while still being vegetarian. Probably the best mushrooms I have ever tasted! The drinks were great and the price is about half of that in Paris! ***CONCLUSION*** Definitely would recommend this place! And for tourists they have English speaking staff and menus :)

This is one of the oldest breweries in Prague and the oldest in town with an inn. You'll get pretty much what you're after. They brew, they distill, they cook. It's a win win win. Prices are reasonable and they even offer a flight of six beers. They're always busy so avoid popular times and weekends. They sell merchandise but it's a little hidden so you may have to ask if you're interested in stickers or clothing.

The darker one is actually Kastle Rouge, the only beer not made by Cvikov.

The main draw here is the beer tasting: all six of the ones they brew, in 0.2 liter amounts, for about $20. For Americans who don't do metric: 0.2 liters is a shade under 7 ounces, so in total this is not quite 4 full-sized beers. Best to buy this with a friend... For food, we had the "game stock" soup (imagine a beef consomme, with various root vegetables) and the langos (imagine fried dough, topped with barbecue pork and the ubiquitous beets). For the beer: I'm saddened to say that this was about the point that I decided I didn't care much for Czech beers. Heresy! (To put this in perspective, my tastes run to the darker, more Belgian-style beers, and I tend to go for minimal hoppiness, so pilsners are already starting several points down on my list; if light and hoppy is your thing, then these were pretty good)

Came here for the beer flights and got what I wanted! They serve ginormous beer flights here and food (didn't get the chance to eat). The environment was chill with lots of indoor seating and outdoor garden area.

Service was fine and so was the beer. There was only one option for a vegetarian meal and it was macaroni and cheese.

Decent beer absolutely HORRIBLE service. Short pours on the tasting ($18 American) and super rude waiter.

The food is here to keep you busy and to slow down how fast you get drunk. Order bar food - fries, sausages, fried cheese- and you'll be great. Order a whole meal and well, you get the picture. The beer is good and the shots may or may not be to your taste. No, they're not free. Why would a beer hall give away alcohol? However, the word "no" is perfectly acceptable if you don't want a shot or another beer. The staff doesn't care whether or not you order beer. I got bottled tea and I saw others drinking coffee. No hassles. Atmosphere is kicka**. On a nice day the outdoor tables are lovely. The interior has to be seen to be believed. If you tried to conjure up a fairytale Bohemian tavern you couldn't come up with something better than this. Stay as long as you like and enjoy the accordion music and the vibe. And this is from someone who doesn't drink alcohol and doesn't much care for Central European food.

I ordered the Moravian Sparrow which was tasty and 2 of the light beers (they have only 2 choices...light or dark). A staff member came by as I was enjoying my meal with a tray of shots and I declined. He then began to argue with me for over a minute while I kept telling him no. He was very pushy and I did not appreciate having to say "no" more than once, let alone 5 times. Overall, the food was good, but I was off put by the pushy staff.

Lots of kitsch stuff all over the place and on the ceiling, making it feel busy and rustic simultaneously. Our server was nice and didn't mind that we hung out a bit after closing. All we got were light and dark beers, but their menu is GIGANTIC, but we didn't order any food.

Look for the Art Deco style entrance, which takes you down a long hallway past other unrelated shops, to the entrance of the brewery / brewpub. When I came, they weren't exactly offering tours, but they had paper place mats out that walk you through the brewing process, and how long this building has been doing which function of the brewing process. The waiter took me past a plaster accordion player statue to a booth by the fermentation tanks. I was in heaven! I got a sampler of beer, which includes their own pilsner, a few other beers, and my fav- the beer champagne! The beer champagne wasn't the champagne of beers, Miller High Life, but a beer champagne! It seems that they used champagne yeast to make a higher proof effervescently bubbly brew that I'd drink all the time if I could get it! I also got a shot of the distilled beer. I've tried this kinda stuff before, which isn't that great. Think a weird hoppy vodka. Theirs wasn't much better than most homemade moonshine. I've seen places make this 'shine from beer that gets messed up, but they don't want to pour down the drain. Meh- it works. The place was decorated in a strange brewery fashion. They have a breathalyzer mounted on the wall by the restroom! Wooot! I got a 1.354%! WOOOT!

Since it was the first sunny day in Prague after days of rain we took advantage of the outdoor seating for lunch. We started with a couple of their beers that they brew on site and they were quite good and a nice break from the local beer that is everywhere. The menu in English and the English speaking waiter made this easy to navigate. Given the number of of tourists it would be a surprise otherwise. I ordered the lunch special of the roasted chicken leg/thigh - it was very good and a good price with a side of potatoes. My wife got the deep friend cheese - apparently this is a common main dish in Prague. In Wisconsin this would be like eating a giant deep fried cheese curd as your entree. It came with boiled potatoes and was solid. A very nice setting for a good meal at a fair price.
