The food is absolutely delicious and all completely homemade - even the ice cream. I was a bit of a wimp, and just ordered the margerita pizza, which in my opinion is also underrated. It was mind blowing. Who would have thought, dough, tomato sauce and cheese would be so fab?! Aside from pizza's, they also have a varied Italian menu, and I've heard the risotto is also out of this world. Highly recommended.

I was taken aback by the size of the restaurant that was full with 30 diners, and I was a little disheartened to be, as I saw it, jammed in by the door. Absorbing the genial atmosphere and impressed by the friendly and attentive staff, I soon relaxed and rather enjoyed the welcome cool breeze through the open door! I ordered a chicken and roast vegetable dish from the specials board, the food was cooked to order and took the necessary time to arrive; it was perfectly cooked, piping hot and absolutely delicious. My guest had a margherita pizza (very exotic) and tried some homemade pineapple sorbet for dessert. I have to say she wasn't too impressed with the sorbet, it was a rather off-putting brown colour, didn't really taste like pineapple and she didn't think it was the right consistency, and at £3.75 for one spoonful expectations were a little higher. Overall a wonderful night in a wonderful restaurant. minuscolo.perfetto

I've always avoided the American Pizza Slice shop in Liverpool city centre (something to do with an…read moreex-girlfriend working there - it's awkward enough when someone you know/like serves you in a shop, but someone you try to avoid serving you? Swerve that). Imagine my delight then when I discovered an American Pizza Slice shop had opened in Waterloo. With my friends' recommendations still ringing in my ears, I entered the shop eager to sample their delights and was not disappointed. I got two slices - one margherita and one pepperoni - and found that not only were they pretty cheap (£1.80 a slice) but that they were deliciously cheesy and hot without feeling the need to take the roof of my mouth off. The shop itself is moderately sized, with a little seating area for you to eat your slice (or whole pizza if you're feeling hungry), although I'm tempted to knock off a star for the Freddie Mercury lookalike pictured on the front of the shop eating a slice of pizza. Mercury qualms aside, this is a welcome alternative to the usual kebab/pizza places along South Road.

However, once you enter Bueno, you are met by friendly, chatty staff who are patient as you decide on what to order, as well as making some interesting small talk along the way. The food itself is, despite the aesthetics of the shop, actually very good and could even be described as the best around the area. The chips, by kebab shop standards, are crispy and not soggy in the slightest (other takeaways, take note) and their kebabs are juicy, if not a bit cardboard tasting at times. Their pizzas (or should I say, piz as) are excellent, as they combine a soft, doughy base with just the right mix of tomato and a rich, stringy cheese. A favourite of mine to get is basically anything meat-based, the more the better. The prices aren't particularly cheap but are quite competitive so if you're in the area and fancy something quick and greasy for tea, then I would definitely recommend here.

They may be a bit more expensive than other local stores but i think it is really work paying the extra.Try the onion rings they are fab!!! However, possibly due to their clientele usually being of the late night variety and almost certainly very drunk, Efes' quality of food isn't really that great. They do the usual selection of kebabs and burgers, as well as a rather large selection of pizzas, but they're just not made to a very good standard. If you're drunk enough then generally I suppose you wouldn't notice, but I've frequented enough takeaways when pissed in my time to know the good places to go (they taste good even when you're so drunk you can't really speak) and Efes isn't one of them. If you've got the late night munchies then this could be worth a go, but otherwise then there's better places on South Road to go instead, never mind in Crosby/Waterloo.

Or a jolly old man, like the ones you see on the Bertolli adverts. They might sometimes be a bit on the large side, but they never look unhealthy (not like when you think of fat English people). Maybe this place should add something to their name, like Fat But Not Unhealthy Italian. Anyway, I digress. The restaurant itself is a delightful little place in Crosby village that doesn't look particularly big from the outside but inside they manage the space well, ensuring no diner feels uncomfortable or cramped. The service there is prompt and attentive without making you feel too awkward and the waiters are friendly and chatty. The food is a selection of the usual dishes you'd expect from an Italian restaurant as well as a few more sophisticated, unusual ones. The pizzas and pasta dishes are excellently made and delicious, and if you go during their 'Happy Hour' between 5pm and 6.30pm or all day Sunday then you can get a pizza or pasta dish for a fiver, which represents excellent value for money. The other dishes on the menu can be quite pricey but are well worth the money. I would particularly recommend the Tournedos Rossini steak if you're feeling flush as that is full of flavour and worth every penny. A great place to go for any occasion.

However, sometimes I do venture out to actual restaurants where you sit down and y'know, make a bit of a night of it rather than shovelling down a kebab and chips in an attempt to stop myself from throwing up. Fat Italian in Crosby is one such place, offering a variety of delicious Italian meals and juicy steaks at slightly expensive prices, but reasonable nonetheless. When I dined there, I got some calamari as a starter that was light and chewy and decided on steak for my main. This proved to be an excellent choice as the Tournedos Rossini steak I got was easily the best I had ever tasted as it was deliciously tender. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the atmosphere is quite relaxed - when I was there I spotted a few tables with people in Liverpool shirts attending post-match, which shows how Fat Italian represents a restaurant where you can go to have a meal to celebrate a special occasion or just to have a pizza on the way home from town.
