A fortunate turn of events. We came in mid-October for pizza, but learned that pizza season was…read moreover. However, after choosing our selections we were very pleased with a thick, hearty, and filling farro soup - one of the best we tried in Lucca. However, even better was a delicious and seemingly unconventional pasta with cheese and mint (ever so slight mint taste) and mild yellow tomato sauce - a winning combination. If it is not a permanent menu item, it should be! The bruschetta gets a top grade as well. Brava! We can't forget to complement our serving staff who were so friendly as we tried to practice our Italian. Fortunately they also spoke English and made sure everything was going well at our table. Our compliments to the chef.

Turns out that this year, Lucca was hosting the Italy Comics Convention during that same wknd. Soo...the city was packed. We found this restaurant randomly and skimmed the menu before deciding to find a seat and eat. What drew us here was when my husband found out they served ribolitta! I am NOT a fan of ribolitta, but apparently - my husband is! Ribolitta is famous Tuscan soup, a hearty potage made with bread and vegetables. Not many restaurants serve it for some reason, prolly because it takes awhile to eat and not many tourists actually want to order it. Ribolitta, 7 e - i have no comments re: this dish, but my husband kept claiming "wow, this is actually really good, i'm so glad I ordered it!" Tortellini Lucchesi al Ragu, 8 e - meat sauce with your tortellini, can't go wrong with that right? Pizza all'arrabiata with mozzarella, 5 e - you can't go wrong w/ the basic tomato based pizza! My husband was thrilled. He got his ribolitta and we didn't even have to wait long to get our meal, especially w/ the herds of people arriving in Lucca for Comicon. Outdoor seating available!

Some of the best pasta in Lucca hands down they say. Award winning chefs and personable proprietor Carmine. There is a reason locals choose to book this place so you need to call in or email a res as I did. Opens at 19:00. Small inside seating with AC or outside. Highlights - Burrata su Tartare di S. Marzano: Fresh burrata cheese over San Marzano tomato tartare with basil oil. Easily our fav- just wow. It looks like beef tartar. It's not. Tordelli Fatti da Noi al Ragù di Carne - Recommended by Emilie. This is stuffed pasta. Really good. Not Tortellini! And Maccheroni Freschi Fatti in Casa alle the homemade wide ribbon pasta with tomatoes and cheese Ask for the house wine on tap. 1/2 or 1L carafes! Bianco, Rosso or red

Everything here is delicious and authentic but my favorites were the tordelli luccesi ( a local must try!), the pork chop w apples and the daily risotto - if you're lucky it will be the hot pink beet version which is INSANELY delicious! The owner is also very friend and speaks perfect English which is helpful if you don't speak Italian.

Between the three of us we shared two pizzas - the margherita, and the proscuitto e funghi. Both were delicious, but I tend to like more toppings on my pizzas so I enjoyed the proscuitto e funghi one more. The crust was really light and chewy, but also thin enough to hold all the sauce and toppings. They were also quite giant! We also tried the limoncello spritz, but that wasn't our favorite. Overall, a great spot!

We ended up trying the two pizza listed as "popular/suggested". These are my thoughts. Rivistato - What a unique pizza. There is a lot going on and it's folded in half. I thought it was good but they put in this veggie that was bitter which was a tad offsetting for my taste. It's unique, I prob wouldn't get it again but it was different! (3.5/5) Margherita Al Contrario - Went for a simple classic and this was delicious. It's different than the pizza in America and overall enjoyed it. (4.5/5) Overall an enjoyable spot for pizza. Note... the pizza are pretty big and we got two pizza for two people. Tons of leftover for us. We ended up spending 35 euro for two pizza. They gave us a small discount for paying in cash!
