We were looking for a dinner place and P.J. O'Brien's appeared on the AGFG website; and we thought that'd be a great place for a great Guinness pint! We came thrice over three days and the place was awesome. The Guinness pints were a flawless perfect pour everytime. The staff were super friendly. Thursdays were nice and quiet; Friday was super jammed full-house, great atmosphere; and Saturday was a good crowd with 'Live' sports! Overall, highly recommended for casual evening out! The food we tried was great as well: the P.J.'s Seafood chowder was lovely and the calamari had a nice light batter, easy on the palate.

I came here on a Thursday night and there was a live performer singing, oh man....it was really loud. Tried to go upstaris to have a quieter spot but it was equally loud. Food was alright. I had the fish N chips which wasnt too oily. A great place to come for after works drinks. Probably not so much for a date....

PJ's was the watering hole for a long while, it's a great unpretentious bar with cheap drinks, daily deals on food, and if you become a regular they usually give you discounts on top of the regular great prices. Anywhere with Guinness' gotta be good! You're not getting the 5 star styled Irish meal, but for the 10 or 15 dollars you'll get some change, and some simple but tasty meals. Oh, and Sunday's wouldn't be the same without the extremely cheap, excessively large, and undoubtably simple Sunday Roast. This is more a tradition than a fancy meal, and I'm sure you've experienced the same before! The vibe is warm and comforting, like an ancient drinking house of the aristocrats, the big jovial characters hugging their Guinness's like cherished prizes from a hard yards in the chambers. No-nonsence bar, polite bar tenders, Irish accents (hot), cheap food, Guinness, and a warm and cuddly feeling (not from the NZ'd bouncers)

Set on the ground floor of the Grace Building, PJs is a clean, non-sticky Irish bar. It can get pretty full on Friday and Saturday nights (from what I can gather) but otherwise it's a pretty chilled place to have a cheeky pint of the black stuff. The upstairs area is reserved for diners, but I've not had the food there so I won't comment on that. If you've come to Sydney and you're view on Irish bars is based on Scruffy Murphy's, forget about that, this is much different. It's a pleasant place to come for a few drinks and you don't feel uneasy walking in here sober!

I won't lie, PJ's is my favourite pub in Sydney, and I'm likely to be unashamedly biased about it. That being said, if you are a true pubber and just like a good pint and a good chance to either just chill out with your friends or meet a whole lot of new people, this truly is somewhere worth checking out. The rumour is that all the timber used for the warm interior of PJ's (which is an Irish pub) was imported from Ireland. Whether or not that's true, I'm not sure, but from my experience of Dublin pubs it is a good recreation. PJs clientele seem to come and go in waves, but come about 10.30pm on a weekend the place can really fill up. The music generally is at a good background level and suits a bit of a rock crowd, with the obligatory U2 songs on rotation. There aren't any live acts in the Sydney PJ's (although I believe the Melbourne one has a fair bit) but there is a lot of sport - mostly for the Irish crowd to follow the soccer/football, as well as rugby, gaelic football and sometimes hurling. Linking in with the Tadhg Keneally connection, PJ's also has a Sydney Swans AFL Supporters Club, and shows their games with some devotion. Unlike a lot of 'sports bars' though, there aren't TVs everywhere and the sport that's playing doesn't dominate your evening - it's just there if you want it. There are plenty of cosy nooks to sit in, although it's not a huge pub. Turn up too late on a weekend and you will have to queue to get in. It is very much an Irish pub and stocks not only Guinness but also Irish ciders, alcopops, sodas and even chips/crisps. Towards the end of a night, when they are getting ready to close, the management have a tendency to break out the old Irish songs to get the whole crowd singing and in a good mood. I have been there at the end of the night and felt the whole place thumping to the rhythm of people stamping their feet along to the music - it has ambience plus. Another great thing about PJ's is the food - there are plenty of options for a hearty pub meal and this ranges from Guinness pie to lasagne to chicken parmigiana to gourmet pizza. The only real downsides to PJ's: in summer it does get quite warm, particularly when it's busy, and the few fans and one air conditioner simply don't handle it. You can be doing very little and still end up feeling hot and sweaty. The other main downside, if this is your thing, is it's by no means a place to see and be seen. People are there for a drink with their mates or maybe a friendly chat with the people next to them. There's no dancefloor and nowhere to really strut your stuff. But if you can handle those factors, it's a lot friendlier as a pub than most other inner-city pubs in Sydney, and well worth a visit!

    Pint of beer yum.

This place has the worst food you can imagine. I wouldn't serve this crap to my dog! The drinks were good.

Fish n chips was a 7.5/10. Better than the US. Drink menu looked promising. Weekly specials were also a solid deal.

Being close to where I used to work, I'd frequent this place quite a bit, and before it was a PJs it was a mates fave city pub so we'd catch up over a few here from time to time. There's a pretty good mix of people in the street-level bar, and PJs have converted it into more of a sports bar so there are plenty of screens for the sports nuts to check out their favourite teams prospects. PJs typically have pretty good fare. In winter they have two absolute cracking dishes. The Guiness Pie with mushy peas, and their signature lamb shanks which is totally unctuous. Why such a modest score? Price kills the place. It's not one of the cheaper places to get a beer as someone incorrectly states in their tips, it's easily one of the most expensive places to get a beer. You're paying over the top prices for domestic tap beer. A cheap beer is $5 for a Coopers Pale Ale, which you can get on the same street about 200m up the road... Also... As much as I enjoy a good pokie section, this one ain't good. And by that I mean the clientelle. It brings in the undesireable types, and sours what is otherwise a sweet pub. The snug, the downstairs den, has a great looking bar, and "snug" seating, but it's kinda pointless down there. It doesn't feel snug, it feels stuffy and claustrophobic - and the bar has never been manned when I've been down there. Now, if they moved the pokies to the snug, and then opened up the entire bar at the street-level to include the room vacated by the pokie section, you'd have something. But why would they do that when they can get by with what they have.

Being in the city, it can get quite busy very quickly and is a decently sized basement multi-storied pub. TV screens are usually are usually playing Fox sports or something similar. I order the Parmy, just to be on the the safe side. I wasn't too game to try the Pie which is supposed to be one of the best (as judged by Irish people I work with) around. The food is carefully prepared and you can tell the produce is quality and they've cooked it properly which some pubs sometimes struggle to do consistently... The chips were the standout side, crisp and crunchy! Definitely will be trying the stew or pie, that is if I'm brave enough to.
