The overwhelming smell of sewage really kills it for me. I was told they are right next to a sewage facility of some sort, so that explains the smell. Not their fault. I met a friend there and we left after one drink bc the smell just wouldn't let us enjoy ourselves. But I hear there are lots of trampy chicks who hit on married Mexican men. Fun spot, friendly people. Pool, shuffleboard, dance floor, good drinks at a decent price and again, nice people. Food isn't the top of their list, but we were told we could bring outside food in if we wanted. Sounded like they have food service on one of the weekend days. There are biker bars, and then there's Pj's. Located in gold country, Pj's has established itself as being one of the most biker friendly bars in all of Northern California. A great selection of beer, and harder drinks at a reasonable price, large patio, pool tables, ample tables, and live bands. The food depends on what day you get there. Most of the time, the fare will be typical bar-food. But on Wed or weekends, you'll be treated to "grill your own steak" or BBQ specials. Well worth the trip for. But be forewarned- Placerville's local law enforement do not like ANYONE on two wheels, and are known for pulling over anyone leaving PJ's on a motorcycle. So definitly watch your alcohol intake. read more

My view of this place is somewhat skewed. I've only been there on Thursday nights, when I was part of the house band for their Jam Night. Since it was seldom busy (thus encouraging bozos get up and play for free), I couldn't really get a feel for the place. The staff seemed friendly, and the drinks were reasonable. The only thing that was a put-off for me personally was a couple of times there was some pot-smoking going on out on the patio. I like my taverns a little tonier than that. read more

Went to PJ's today with friends at about 6:45 pm. Just wanted to grab a beer and visit. We were greeted as we sat down, and the waitress/bartender said, "I hope you're not here to eat, because the kitchen is closed". Not a problem because we didn't want food. She said she would be back to take our order. 10 minutes later, we still had not placed our order. We saw her grab her purse and walk out the back door. When we asked what was up, we were told "It's a bar, you order at the bar". We would have if the first gal had told us that! Needless to say, after 15 minutes, and no drink order placed, we left. Ended up going to Poor Red's down the road, and received excellent service. read more

This bar is in my opinion underrated. In the past this bar was known for loads of fights. Things have since then mellowed out. The atmospere is very chill and kick back. There is a very wide age diversity. The people that come in here are awesome and friendly. The food here has improved. They have some very good burgers (even a vegetarian burger), fish tacos, pull pork sandwhiches, and on wednesdays they have cook your own steak dinners. Get there early, the kitchen closes at 8pm except on wed. The bartenders here are great, very friendly. There is plenty here to do besides gettin your swerve on. They have three pool tables, a shuffleboard table, darts, a jukebox and a nice-sized dance floor, and at your request : beerpong tables, and if you want, im sure they will not have a problem putting together the stage and stripper pole ;) They have free pool on tuesdays and thursdays. Saturday nights they have live bands. Also on thursday nights are their showgirls nights, which ranges from bikini dancers, wet t-shirt contests, baby oil wrestling, and 9-ball strip-off tournaments. read more

I am a once in a while drinker plus all the time people watcher and this is the place I come to when I want to unwind from the week on Saturdays mostly (as my hot bartender friend only works here on Saturday afternoons). True, there are a wide variety of people that visit which is what makes it so great. Everyone is fun to watch and talk to. There is a patio for people to drink and smoke outside if that's your desire, heating lamps are there if needed. I am a foodie through and through, so if you are looking for a 5 star cuisine, then it's probably not the place for you to eat. However, it is made fresh from the bbq and goes great with drinking! Smells like piss in there. I have been getting drunk here since the early 90s. Nothing ever changes except the owners. The only reason to come here is when Poor Reds closes and you aren't done drinking yet. The cocktails are poured strong and are cheap. You never know whats going to happen here. Everyone is drunk and the age differences are vast. I have been 86'd here, caused fights here, bumped my head on in the parking lot trying to be a ballerina, and I keep coming back for more. I must preface this by stating that I wasted most of my early 20's lurking in this place. Although those times were an entire life ago, this place is still near and dear to my heart. The place is considerably more mellow that it was in the mid 90's where a fight or more per night was the norm often times spilling out onto Mother Lode Dr. The crowd here is still of the rugged variety but isn't that what you expect at a Saloon/Roadhouse? I believe they now have a DJ on Friday nights although I'm not exactly sure what the DJ plays. Live bands, typically of the bluesy/classic rock variety, play here regularly and the dance floor is decent sized. Just be careful walking up to it because there is a sneaky step that might just send you onto the floor in a less than elegant fashion. The drinks are reasonably priced and the bartenders are awesome! There is an enclosed outdoor patio with misters in the summer months and heaters in the winter, 3 coin operated pool tables and a Shuffleboard table. Poor Reds is often the destination but PJ's is the most logical choice if you want to play a game of pool, shake your booty on the dance floor or just stretch out a bit more while sippin yer suds. read more

PJ's is not just a biker bar, but it is a really cool hangout. My girlfriends and I went there for part of my bachelorette party, and the bartender was amazing. He comped me a lot of shots. Being from Reno (heavy drinking area), he was unaware of many of the shots we ordered, but he was game to try and make them. Everyone in there was very friendly, and it was a very diverse atmosphere. We stopped here after lunch at Poor Reds, kinda wished we had held off for PJ's, but that just gives me an excuse to go back. We were parched after a couple hundred miles on the bike and dropped in to wet the whistle. It was early afternoon on a Friday so not many on hand but the regulars so we played free pool and had a couple of pops. The bartender was friendly, on the ball, and attentive. I must say, I was quite surprised when I first went into PJ's. It's not at all what I expect when I hear the word, "Roadhouse!" The place has a great ambiance and is very clean - even the restrooms! We were there on Ribeye Steak Night, and didn't arrive in time - they ran out of ribeyes - but because of that, they opened the kitchen and we were able to try the burgers - yum! If you're looking for a fun place to hang out with friends in Placerville - I highly recommend PJ's! "Wait" for it...to me, service and common courtesy should be important. Went to PJs tonight with another couple during 6:00 o'clock hour, sat at a table in the bar area, and a young gal tending the bar area advised the kitchen was closed. We said no problem as just wanted to have a drink and kick back. Said she'd get back to us to take our order in a few minutes. No problem; we would wait. And wait we did; after 15 mins of her and the other bartender serving newcomers, I got up and chased her down in a backroom where she headed with her purse in hand. I asked if we could get served. She wasn't rude but said, "it's a bar so you have to order there." Me: "But you said you'd be back to take our order." She: "Well, it's a bar, so go there and order." Me: "This whole area is part of the bar, isn't it? And you're the one who said you'd be back to take our order." She: "Well, I told her (indicating toward her coworker) you were waiting, but we're bartenders not cocktail waitresses, so go to the bar and order." Quite miffed, I thought to myself "would have gladly done that 15 mins ago had you just told us!!!" Worked out though, Poor Red's is just minutes down the road and we received great service. My band had a show here a week ago, for the 2nd time, and the staff is always super friendly and just all in all good people. The bartenders are very responsive and quick, even when there are a lot of people crowding the small bar top. Drinks are reasonably priced, if not a little cheaper than other places. The patio is awesome to enjoy your drink and a smoke (or 5). They have pool tables, live music, and food that looks great, though I have not tried it. If you are looking for some place that's good for a night out with friends without all the hassle of crowds, overly priced drinks, or , go to PJ's Roadhouse for a good time. read more
