This was one of those occasions where turning to Yelp was of great help. Our cab driver told us about this place and further investigating via the yelp reviews and pictures allowed us to decide this was a place to check out and I'm really very glad that we did. A lot of locals shop here, and there are tons of stores selling all kinds of things imaginable from shoes, undergarments, makeup, and lots of food choices.
They have a food court on the very first floor if you're looking for a light snack or something quick, but if you want to sit down and enjoy a tasty meal, go to the very last floor and then take the escalator to the terrace where you'll have a wide variety of options ranging from sushi to Italian, and of course; there are tapas.
The building itself has a bit of history as it was originally built as a bull fighting arena, and when you look at it from the outside, you can see the architectural style depicts that that was its original intent. However, we were told that a lot of Spaniards became increasingly aware of the cruelty towards the animals, and health hazards for people as well and it was finally outlawed in the city of Barcelona only just a few decades ago.
For those who worry about the language barrier, fear not; every single person I came across spoke English, and people here were friendly and they gave us tips and suggestions on other places to visit.
Across from the arena right before the Catalunya museum is a fountain that plays music and offers a light show at night. A must visit area when you're in town. read more
