The prices for all the tarot and oracle cards are much higher then any other store in Ottawa. They are charging more than the publisher price. For example a deck that might retail for 32.99 will be 4-8 plus dollars more at their store. I bought several decks there before finding out the same decks were several dollars less everywhere else in Ottawa. I like supporting independent shops but when other independent stores are charging the publisher price listed on the actual box and this store has crossed the price with a marker and is selling for higher I have an issue. Singing Pebble Books on Main has just as good a selection and is using the cover price. Plus you get points for money off future purchases This store has readers and for the most part are decent. We recently had a reading - term used loosely - with Anne at Planet Botanix. It was the worst "reading" experience we've ever had and we feel cheated out of our money. Planet Botanix did not respond to our complaint which was very surprising as this reflects negatively on their business. We became aware after the fact that the majority of their practitioners double as sales associates. Would not recommend! read more

In my search for supplies to make massage oil candles for party favors, I stopped into Planet Botanix to see how many of these items I could find here. It's location on Bank Street is convenient for me, especially when I'm running errands. After some consulting with the saleswoman, I purchased some natural shea butter and essential oils. I was so glad to have found these ingredients right away, that I didn't think to look at the price. Big mistake. For two jars of shea butter and two essential oils, my bill came to $80. I thought about returning the items to take my chances elsewhere, but the lady was so helpful and patient that I was honestly just too embarrassed to take anything back. I was in and out of the store fairly quickly, although I was only their only customer at the time. This benefitted me in that the service was very personalized. It's a specialized store to begin with, selling organic teas, books, house and gardening items, and other natural products. This usually jacks up the prices, and though I expected them to be overpriced, after finding some of these items at other stores made me realize how high the prices really were. A bit disappointed, but at least I found what I was looking for, and fast. Update - 3/13/2014: I just received a very sweet message from the owner to understand the cost of the products. The shea butter is organic, fair traded from Guana. The price reflects these two qualities, which the owner values highly, especially the fair trade part, as it means the producers get fair wages for their labour. It's great that the owner believes and supports in fair trade, as well as the quality of organic products, so this is very reassuring for any consumers who also share the same values in deciding to invest in the products from this store. 8/30 #30DaysOfYelp read more

Planet Botanix offers natural body products, including those made by the local owner. Courses are also often offered on how to make your own body and aromatherapy products. I've been going here steadily (always spending more than 70 dollars per visit), and the last time I was there, I picked up a bunch of essential oils to diffuse. One of the oils gave me a bad reaction and triggered asthma and the store refused to give me an exchange. The manager had zero sympathy and the store clerk just kept saying, there is nothing we can do. Oh but yes, there is something you can do. You can be a decent establishment with some integrity and take back the item that makes your customer sick. So if you have allergies and or you could be sensitive to anything, don't buy from here. You'll be stuck with a product that makes you sick. And the fact that you've supported this business for a while does not matter to them either. Try Saje at the rideau centre. They have a better collection, better service (they will apologize and take back whatever you're allergic/asthmatic to even if you've tried it after taking it home) and nicer people working there! :) read more

Planet Botanix is your go-to shop for quality essential oils at a fair price....and as far as i know, it's the only place in ottawa centre you can buy bottles, roll-on containers, jars and other containers for home made cosmetics. They also stock all the ingredients you need to make your own creams bath and body care products ..and run DIY workshops on a regular basis. WHO NEEDS to spend money on an overpriced over-packaged product which has a huge NATURAL word on the label and in minute print lists all the ingredients you wouldn't want your skin absorbing. if you don't want to make your own, PB has a line of trusted soaps and creams and hydrosols that you will LOVE ready to use. There is also a carefully selected collection of books dvd's and cd's which cover all the topics relating to health and well being. Meditation Aids, candles, incense, charms and a HUGE selection of crystals, rock specimins, semi-precious stones and jewellery. I have several of the hanging banners i bought from PB with quotes of wisdom, and my xmas tree gets a unique ornament from there each year as well. Enviro-mats, and environmentally freindly cleaning supplies. and Don't forget the TEA. They carry the best herbal tea in town. When you stop in to planet botanix, do not forget to check the board for events like meditation circles, gong sessions and yoga classes; as well as the different therapies that are available in the clean and peaceful treatment rooms. Crystals, oracle cards, incense, books, yoga pants, bolsters, cards, jewelry....She is also conscious about using environmentally friendly "plastic bags" and receipts. I love that she buys locally and supports underprivileged countries. Always new stuff coming in! Plus she has some amazing practitioners working out of the Planet Botanix Wellness Clinic in the back of the store. Worth visiting. read more

I went into this store for the first time on Friday. I made a purchase with a friend of mine, and spent about half an hour in the store. When I returned on Monday, I made another purchase after browsing for 20 minutes. AFTER I MADE MY PURCHASE, the manager pulled me aside to inform me that during my first visit they had "footage" of my friend and I shoplifting. First of all, we did not shoplift, and when I asked for further details, he said the video wasn't clear enough to tell what was stolen. He insisted that he wasn't accusing us of anything, but throughout the entire interaction it really did feel like I was being accused. It turns out, after my friend made the purchase, she took it out of the bad to show me, and I looked at it and gave it back to her before we left. This was deemed "shoplifting" by the staff. We have never been more insulted and as avid Crystal shoppers this is not a place we will be recommending to anyone. Zero stars. read more

If you are looking for aromatherapy products in Ottawa you should head to Planet Botanix. They have a great range of oils and products to make your own natural cosmetics and if you speak to the owner she will order in any other product that you are looking for. They prices are very reasonable and I was especially impressed with the attitude of the owner who is very friendly and helpful. The store is an eclectic mix and I think it could be refined a bit more to focus on the aromatherapy more exclusively but it is a great store that is a lovely place to visit.
