And it turns out I read him right: he was all those things! He's such a pro that even though I booked him about six months in advance, he didn't really need to know many details until about one or two weeks before the wedding. I gave him information about our wedding - timeline, playlists, audio needs, etc. - and he just made it all work! He also emceed the night and I loved how he was very low-key about it. He informed people about what was going on, provided smooth transitions between events and did exactly what we wanted him to do. I highly recommend Bob because he was reliable, competent, professional, cool and also offered his services at a decent price - a lot lower than the DJs I found on theknot.com or other wedding websites.

The tournament grew to capacity in about its 5th year. About 8 years in, we were trying different things to "spice it up" a bit. In case you don't know, big events tend to "lull" during the middle and it drags on at some point. After seeing Jarrod in action at several major high school sporting events, we discussed the possibility of him working our event. This concept was new to him and to us but after a 4 year run with Jarrod, our event has gotten even better. What Jarrod has done is help fill in the "gaps" that occur during the day. He plays music in between games, does sponsor "shoutouts", handles door prizes, runs dance contests and other things that keep the crowd interested. This is a 50 acre complex with 18 fields and he manages to make it seems like we are all together a lot closer. He also handles all of the timing for the event running a master scoreboard. This CANNOT get screwed up and it never does. Simply put, Jarrod brought a "breath of fresh air" to our long-standing event. Each year we ask for feedback to improve and he is mentioned every year as a big positive. I understand that the event DJ world is a competitive business. If you are looking for someone that TRULY cares about his work and not just the paycheck, I suggest you hire him so he can breathe life into your event!! We held this event at RANGE in the Chevy Chase Pavilion in Washington, DC. We usually have the owner, Kurtis Cross, DJ our events, however he was booked for a wedding, so we were assigned DJ Shawn Parker. Although I know that Kurtis trains exceptional DJs, I was admittedly a little nervous about having a DJ that I'd never met do our event. However, the moment Shawn introduced himself, I felt at ease. Shawn showed up early and set up all of his equipment quickly and seamlessly. He made sure to connect with me and review the details, including what music we wanted to hear and any announcements that needed to be made. He checked in with me during to make sure everything was running smoothly. The music he played was perfect. The crowd was dancing and enjoying reminicing. The restaurant never once complained to us about the music/noise level. At one point, I asked Shawn if I could jot down a few notes - things I wanted to remember to do and/or announce, including organizing a group photo. I assigned times to each task. Shawn took it upon himself to remind me about 10 mins in advance of each activity to make sure that I didn't forget. I also want to note that Sean was dressed very well for the occasion - in a suit, exactly as requested. He has a fantastic announcer voice and great timing. He read the crowd very well and knew what song selections to play when. He entertained requests and handled each guest with exceptional professionalism. I was thrilled with the quality of the service. This is a truly professional and reliable company and I will continue to use and recommend them to anyone looking for a phenomenal DJ service. He organized everything music wise so I wouldn't have to do it. On the day of the wedding, Tristan and his staff were punctual and prompt when setting up at our venue in Tyson's Corner. The sound itself from their top of the live equipment was nice with just the right amount of bass. He remembered my mom's favorite song and even took the time to help create a very memorable and meaningful photo. Outside of the Lechon and Ben & Jerry's ice cream caterer, hiring Tristan and Modern Music Box was the second best decision I made that week...Second only to marrying the woman who couldn't stop dancing to his carefully crafted set.
