The staff is amazing, very friendly people. I enjoy going to the gym so I can see my friends, the staff members there. I often see the staff members cleaning all the treadmills when I go and thoroughly cleaning the tops and bottoms of each treadmill everyday. I've had a few gym memberships over the years and this Planet Fitness is definitely my favorite. Its unfortunate they don't have a pool, because if they did, it would be perfect, but of course that's how they keep costs down. I'm AMAZED at the sheer variety of machines at this location. There's plenty of space, it's not to crowded and you never have to wait for the machine you want, even during the busiest hours. This location is much bigger than the midtown location which makes it worth the few minutes extra drive to not have to compete for machines. Everyone is really polite.. no meatheads, which is pretty much Planet Fitness' "thing" This is a gym for regular people although there are a lot of body builders who go here, they know intimidation is not permitted which is awesome. Recently had a total knee replacement. Doing PT 2x a week but I want to push myself to get my health back. I can't do cardio yet so I asked the front desk if someone could show me how to use the "arm bicycle" (not sure what it's called) it's good for cardio also. They informed me they don't use that machine so they couldnt show me how to use it!??!? Thought that was unusual. But who knows. Thought I'd check too see if the personal trainer could help but she was on vacation for another week and a half, they only have one. I know it's only 25.00 a month but this and so many other things have changed. Customer service and people wanting to work just isn't what it used to be. I signed back up for the gym towards the fall of 2021. I hadn't been since the pandemic started. I have the $24/month membership (Black Card) which allows you to bring a guest each time and also access to their massage chairs, tanning beds, etc. You also get access to ALL Planet Fitness gyms as well with this membership - which works out great for me since i'm in California a lot. The staff here is always friendly! They have a section for socially distanced treadmills, etc too which I thought was cool! They have just enough machines but sometimes when its busy you do have to wait your turn. Facility is clean and the locker room is spacious and nice as well! read more

Thank God for our gym! It's amazing the amount of time they use to clean and disinfect the facility. We go to the one on Dimond close to Minnesota. People are very nice and yes just every day people. It's VERY different from the Alaska Club, I mean the Atmosphere is CERTAINLY Different. The Machines are easy to access and you don't have to walk around and wait for someone who's just sitting on their cellphone texting or chit chatting. It's got a Nice locker Room and usually not as Busy in the night times around 9pm. Memberships is cheap and just an Amazing Feel. No one there judging your workout. read more

Over the years I've been to a number of clubs but Planet Fitness is the best fit for me; You just can't beat the pricing: As low as free for youth during the summer months and adults as low as $10/month! I upgraded to the Black Card level which has a number of benefits although the big ones for me are 1) You can use any Planet Fitness in the world, not just 'your club' and 2) You can bring a guest for free each visit. I mainly use the Anchorage club on West Dimond. It is not the closest one to me but the equipment selection is vast, the machines well maintained and the whole club is spotless. In addition, the staff are friendly and well trained. Any 'issues' and Dawn, the manager, is right on it. Jewels, the personal trainer is easy access and really knows her stuff. BTW, if you are new to working out, be sure to get some initial instruction/training otherwise you could be wasting your time or, even worse, induce an 'ignorance injury'. Planet Fitness has a very specific clientele in mind... Me! I am an aging, overweight, out of shape, typical American who's doctor is riding my butt about getting some exercise. The last thing that I want to do is go into a gym and struggle to walk on the treadmill for 15 minutes. My imagination paints a pretty ugly picture of that. I can't tell you how nice it was to walk into the gym for the first time only to see myself 50 times over. There seems to be a very even mix of males and females, young to old. I think that the only part of the demographic that was missing are the musclebound grunters who dream vacation is grunting at Venice Beach. There is even a sign on the wall that says "NO GRUNTING". The place is not intimidating at all. I am giving 5 stars because I can't seem to find any shortcomings. There is a more equipment than I can ever imagine using for cheaper than anywhere else in town. Everything is in good repair and the facility is spotlessly clean. The staff is friendly and ready to assist with instructions on proper use of the equipment at any time. If you are gym shopping, it would be great disservice not to go in for a tour. read more

I made my overdue return to the gym today after being away for a significant amount of time to concentrate on my studies and work. (ugh) Those numerous reviews I posted on eating tons of pizzas, burgers, and sugary coffee drinks certainly wasn't a big help. The gym itself is in a strip mall next to the Fred Meyers on W. Dimond. They had recently remodeled this place and is now double the size of what it was the last time I was here. They have added some new equipment this time including treadmills, free weights, and cross-training equipment. They expanded the area for people using mats for stretching exercises, sit-ups, and push-ups in the front area which was a huge improvement. Before it was just a small corner in the rear making mat exercises awkward with gym-goers grouped closely together in such a small area. Exercise bikes, stair-climbing machines, and conditioning equipment for arms, legs, back, and shoulders are relatively the same, but they do a good job of keeping the equipment clean here by both the staff and other gym members. The locker room was wide open for personal space with all the lockers situated against the wall compared to the gym at the Northway Mall which has the lockers separated in rows making the aisles very narrow especially when it gets crowded. Best time to come here to avoid the crowds would be mid-morning and early afternoons after lunch. The gym staff clean the lockers periodically especially after the early morning rush so cleanliness has never been an issue whenever I visit. The staff here is very friendly and professional. They were quick to track down my membership number from the NC Planet Fitness rather than having to apply for a new membership. Out of all the gyms in town, this one is the most affordable. I signed up for a Black Card Membership in NC back in 2007 which lets me use any of the gyms in the country and half-price on all drinks they sell like Gatorade, vitamin water, and bottled water. This was an awesome deal for me at only $20.00 per month. There is an even cheaper deal for anyone who just wants to use one location for exercising at only $10.00 per month. The last gym I used back on the East Coast was LA Fitness and those guys were asking $40.00 per month with a binding contract.for 1 year so taking this deal was a no-brainer for me. One of the main issues a lot of people have had and also with some reviewers here when going to the gym are dealing with other gym-goers who are obnoxious or judgmental when watching other people exercise. This is just my personal opinion, but I've learned to tune out the guys grunting loudly while lifting weights and I always pick out the emptiest area of the machines or stretching areas for my workouts. The gym members at this location are very respectful for the most part and also go out of the way to wipe down the machines thoroughly after each use. As far as workouts go, cardio was the order of the day and I have been dreading this after being gone for so long. The treadmills and bikes are useful to test your energy level and stamina to see where you are physically before increasing the workout time after each week. Free weights run from 3 lbs for light exercises all the way up to 80 lbs for anyone wanting to show off their 24-inch pythons. These are also well-maintained and kept in numerical order at this location. Workout accessories like mats and medicine balls are readily available throughout the gym. Now the hard part is executing a good workout for about an hour or so without visualizing a Stella Bleu Burger from Tommy's Burger Stop or a large Avalanche pizza from the Moose's Tooth. read more

My wife and I were looking at this facility and were very pleasantly surprised. It does not appear to be a gym full of "gym rats", just everyday folks like ourselves working on getting or staying in better condition. We looked at all of the equipment and found everything clean, in good working condition, and abundant so no waiting to use something. No contract is required and the monthly fee is exceptionally reasonable. The front desk was very helpful in explaining the options available and what the financial obligations would be. If you are looking for a facility open 24/7 that is nice this would be the place. read more

Very pleased with this gym. The prices are extremely reasonable and having the option to not be in a contract is wonderful. Their Dimond facility is always very clean and the staff attentive and helpful. They have wonderful oversized tanning beds which you don't normally find when a gym claims "tanning included in your membership". They are open 24/7 with staff on site at all times which is both convenient and gives you a piece of mind (especially when going late at night or early in the morning). Their equipment is maintained and kept in good condition. They have a wide variety of free weights, weight machines and cardio machines to choose from, so even when it is "busy" you can always find an open machine or free space. The locker rooms are spacious and clean. You can always bring a friend for free! Worth checking them out if you are looking for an affordable and quality gym. I thought the place was clean, friendly, easy to access, and had everything you need (except a real squat rack...Smith machines don't count) but despite that I had a fantastic workout and think of the three locations in Anchorage, this one is by far the cleanest and has the best customer service. No frills gym, affordably priced. Being tired of paying $60.00 a month at the crowded Alaska Club I recently joined Planet Fitness looking for a change. Planet Fitness is a no frills gym that is focused on every day people getting in shape. Grunting and dropping weights are not welcomed here. There is no pool, no group classes, no racquet ball and you need to bring your own towel. They do have modern equipment, plenty treadmills and elliptical machines to use. Unlimited tanning is also part of your membership. All for only $15.00 a month, a quarter of what I was paying at the Alaska Club. PF is about to open a new gym on the corner of Benson and the Seward Highway. If you are looking for a simple gym without all the frills of the larger clubs and no posers check out Planet Fitness. read more

Planet Fitness immediately exceeded my expectations upon my first visit. Coming from a 24 Hour Fitness background, I have learned to accept (even expect) broken, dirty equipment from a budget gym. So I was amazed to find that at PF, every machine appeared to be in working order, and also pretty darn clean. Not only do they have spray bottles and paper towels everywhere for wiping down the equipment, but it appears that the members actually use them! I'm also digging the Black Card membership, mainly because it means that I get to bring a guest every time I go. With my husband in tow, it's like getting two memberships for the price of one. The giant bank of TVs play a variety of channels, so you're not just stuck with the game, the news, and a rerun of Law & Order. For this girl, Pop-Up Videos and HGTV make those 45 minutes on the elliptical fly by! read more

I've been a member at this gym since May of 2018. I have always carried a small bag to carry some workout gear and my valuables (keys, wallet, etc) during my workouts. Then a couple of days ago, an employee that has been working there since I became a member approached me about my small bag. She tells me it's against policy. She insults me by saying people are stealing equipment from the gym with the implication being, I might steal something. She realizes her slip and hurriedly says, "I'm not saying that you're the type to do that." I ignore her slight, and I finish my workout. Today I return, and there are not many people in the gym. I speak to an employee at the front desk. I ask him to see the policy and he obliges. I ask if any of my belongings are stolen from a locker is PF liable? Of course not. So PF is forcing patrons to put their stuff in lockers, but they refuse to accept liability if anything happens to your things while it's in their lockers. Check. No thanks, I think I'll keep my valuables with me in my small bag. I've done this at every gym I have ever joined. I ask this employee when is the manager is available, and he gives me her card. I intend to call the manager next week. I workout again, and I notice a couple of the employees making passes in my general area to see if I have my bag. I do. I finish my workout without incident. Later that evening, I received an email from planet fitness informing me that I'm being "force cancel" for refusing to follow their bag policy. What a joke! I've never bothered anyone at this gym. I get in, do my workout, and get out. I've seen other people with bags, and I have never seen anyone speak with them. For whatever reason, I get singled out after nine months of no one saying anything to me about my bag. Instead of having the opportunity to raise my problem with the manager, this employee takes it upon himself and snakes me by canceling my membership via email. If you're looking for a place to workout without employees harassing you and kicking you out of the gym for such a trivial thing like carrying around a small bag with your valuables and other small gym gear, then look elsewhere. I never even ate their pizza. What a joke. read more

Having just gotten out of an abusive relationship with the Alaska Club, I was a bit timid to ink my name to another gym membership agreement but I am happy to say that after several years they are still coming through for me. Each year of individual membership costs about the same as what a month of the family membership did at the other place, but the workout feels more honest and somehow less insulting to my grandparents who lived through the Great Depression. read more

Any gym that doesn't allow you to perform the most basic of human moments, the deadlift (aka picking something up off the ground), should be shut down. This gym is cheap, but what you pay is what you get. Their staff knows absolutely nothing about physical fitness and nutrition. Never ever sign up at Planet Fitness if you value your money and time. Their are good coaches at Southside Strength and Fitness, and yes they will cost more money, but it is money well spent. Planet Fitness says they are the "judgement free" zone, yet all they do is judge people who work out more intelligently than they do. Squat, Deadlift, Press, Bench Press FTW. read more

Just joined Planet Fitness and really like it so far. I love the fact that there are no hoards of juice head gorillas in front of the mirrors doing curls with anvils and no "free willie" party's in the locker room. I have the black card membership and it runs 20$ /month which includes use of any PF gym in the country and tanning is included. They have nice newer equipment and machines and all seem to be well maintained. The locker room was fairly clean. This place is exactly what I needed and wanted to get back in to shape. read more

Not a very good gym, even for the price. This gym could be good, but the payoff with the low price is a lot of people there making it almost unusable if you are trying to lift weights. They have a pretty minimal weight selection, but they do have a lot of cardio machinery and a large area with machines for abs/core. Also, for the most part their machines all seem to be maintained pretty well. The downside is that with such cheap membership there are a LOT of people there at all times. Even if you go on a Wednesday at 8:30-9 PM it is crowded. There are quite a few high school kids on some evenings. If you just want to run or ride a bike, etc. you are probably OK, because they have a lot of cardio machines. If you want to lift weights you are out of luck. Also, since it is cheap they have an inordinate number of people who don't know, or ignore, gym etiquette. It's not uncommon for me to want to use a machine only to have somebody sitting on it. I will use other machines, and go through 3 reps on 2-3 machines before they finally stand up and move on, instead of standing up between reps and letting somebody else jump on really quickly. The people there, however do seem to wipe down their machines, benches, etc. pretty well. The free-weight area is pretty small, and can fit maybe 4-5 people comfortably. Most of the time the people here area little better about gym etiquette and you can get in eventually. They have 2 sets of each weight of dumb bells, and I've never had a problem grabbing the weight I want immediately. Additionally they have a few power racks that you can usually jump into pretty easily. The staff has always seemed friendly. I don't use the tanning area so my score doesn't reflect that area of the gym. If the gym wasn't always so packed it would be good, but the number of people there makes it below average at best. I know a few people who have switched to more expensive gyms, and I plan on doing the same. I don't know if I will even finish my yearlong contract, or just pay for two gyms. read more

A few things that I didn't like was that you have to walk through the entire gym to get to the locker rooms... which is kind of small and they don't really give privacy... the workout area is sort of small and crowded too, so if it's busy be prepared to wait for certain machines. Coming from a Gym with TRUE 24 hour gym access, PF is only truly 24 hrs Tuesday thru Thursday and I miss being able to go every day after work (2am) and up here in Alaska most people don't work cute little banker hours and it would be nice to see them expand their hours. I'm a traveler and love planet fitness because it's cheap and I can get my workout in and shower after and have wifi. It's like a second living room. This place WAS cool until the construction took over. The staff is super nice but the construction makes it impossible. The most recent time I went the water fountain was taken out of the wall. Men are all up in the locker rooms and there's jack hammers and yellow tape all over the gym. Once that's all taken care of id happily give it a five star but this is frustrating. read more

This gym is good but it's not enough. The place is too small to workout but soon, I hope, it will be more space than equipments. Bikes are limited. Bathroom stinks but wall air freshener or handy can will help. Showers are too small. No soap available in the shower every time I use it. I'm glad they have weighing machine. I love to use the dumbbell sets especially barbell sets. Triceps push down machine is cool. read more
