I move every month, so finding a gym that doesn't have a complicated cancellation process is important to me. I saw reviews of so many other gyms in Anchorage continuing to charge clients after they canceled so I made sure the staff here knew I was only wanting to pay for 1 month. The staff is wonderful here, I was reassured they don't do that and they even offered for me to pay with cash. Guest visit 6/24/25. Tuesday 600-800 am. Day pass at 18$ Clean, worn in, neighborhood gym at a reasonable price. The first thing I notice about this gym is that the equipment is really packed in. Feels a little claustrophobic. This is a bit hectic at first, but the equipment was thought out in a very efficient way. Think "quads" gym in Chicago. This gym is really really solid. It has some older equipment, but it's bunched together by brand and all good quality and in good condition. It's a mix of hammer strength plate loaders and cybex and life fitness cable machines. It has a reasonable amount of mirrors for free weights and a solid amount (quantity and variety) of cardio machines. It has a couple of spots for squats and dead's (which isn't a given anymore.). It also has the green turf for a CrossFit area and stretching. It has two big cable areas with a respectable amount of handles. (One of the cable areas has swivels -no bench's and the other doesn't - has bench's) About the intangibles. This gym is really pretty clean and in good condition. Locker room has plenty of space, and has a dry and wet sauna along with showers. The saunas and showers are all clean with no funky smells. The WiFi is spotty (especially in the cardio area) which is a bit of an issue because data is sketchy in much of Alaska. Would recommend and revisit, if I make it back up here. read more

This is a way better gym than the Alaska Club, where I was a member earlier in the year. First of all this gym has great lighting--no fluorescent lights blinding you like the other gyms. Second, they have a few screens in the cardio area that play inspiring human movement and nature channels, not news and annoying cartoons. I go at 5 PM, and there is always a spacious feeling with all of the equipment, unlike rush hours at the gym down the street. Third, very few children. i love kids and am a teacher but the last thing I want to deal with after a stressful day at work are unattended children using cardio machines next to me in an annoying way. The women's sauna is also very nice and quiet(and hot!). There are great group fitness classes too. Also, as a woman, I feel safe and unbothered by the muscle dudes in there. It has a laid back vibe, is a bit 70's in a Rocky Balboa kind of way, but it is my favorite gym I have ever been a member of! read more

I love how they offer special discounts because since I am a student, I was able to save money due to their student discount. the gym community too is also more smaller which I loved because it made equipment availability much greater & you would see the same people every time which showed consistency.the convenience of their hours made my workout schedule easy for they are open 7 days a week including holidays & close at 11pm. so even on christmas day, I was able to still get my workout in, which shows they promote and prioritize health overall! the amenities they offered was also a bonus! they have a sauna , yoga room & cycling room. if I wasn't moving out of state, I would still be here! thank you alaska fitness! read more

Scam. Signed up for 6month membership, I attempted to cancel and then noticed they have continuously been charging me. I have lived out of state for several months- and they claimed their system stated that I was in last month.. Jen will steal your money, blame it on the system- state that your time limited membership rolls over automatically to month to month and they will not cancel your monthly fee even after you inform them you will no longer be using the gym due to moving. Have stolen hundreds of dollars from my account, which have lead me to report fraud and dispute claims. DO NOT ATTEND. FRAUD. This has been reported by many other individuals as well. My entire experience with this gym was almost perfect. The atmosphere, staff, group classes, and equipment kept me satisfied for several years. I would have never had any beef with this place if it were not for Jen. She was up to some sketchy billing that I wanted to address, but she ignored it and tried to move forward with reactivating my account. I did not want to chance any future problems so I requested for her to just keep my account closed. She responded with a bunch of information about how she bent her own rules for me when I was not aware of receiving any sort of privilege or exceptions throughout my contract. Alaska is the place to workout with the fair monthly dues. They do have older equipment but not old as other reviews claim it to be. Free weights and cables are just that, treadmills could use an upgrade but again it works fine every time I use it. The sauna and steam room is always empty in the morning. Towels are available at the front desk and trainers are available for an extra fee; however, the classes are free including yoga, Piyo, zumba, insanity, etc. childcare is available for $5 and I think you can get a punch card. The only major downside I can think of is the location - next door to TACO KING. Sometimes it's nearly impossible to get that extra rep while exposed to the sexy scent of carne asada. read more

Looked for a place that had daily and weekly passes but was also a full service place, and AF fit the bill. Full service meaning the locker room was in good condition, decent size, clean, and had a sauna. Equipment that worked, several options. The place is a snug fit in a strip mall, I would not want to be there when it was full, but even at the busiest times it seemed like no more than half the equipment was being used. In town for just a couple of days, on business. I'm training for my first powerlifting meet so I need a place that will let me do deadlifts (some "so-called 'fitness centers'" prohibit such basic exercises!). Landed after 2230 and called the gym. I was psyched someone actually answered the phone - I have a membership to Anytime Fitness so I'm familiar with 24-hour facilities but normally those are only for members with a key; the facilities aren't staffed 24 hours. Alaska Fitness IS! They guy on the phone was super nice and assured me I could do whatever exercises were on my program. I showed up just before 6 am, he was still working, and we had a nice conversation about my meet and progress. As some have mentioned, yes the equipment is older. Who cares. It's perfectly functional. They had everything I needed for my workout, and more. Fair price. Great customer service. Recently, I learned that my automatic billing hasn't stopped following my cancelation request. I reached out to AK Fitness and ultimately spoke to Jen. She was very prompt, understanding, and provided a resolution. What was so great is that during the entire process she assured me that she would make things right- and she did! I haven't stepped foot in this gym since February and cancelled my membership then, giving them 30 days notice as my full year was up in March. It's now late July and I've still been getting charged 84.95 since then. Jen, naturally as a shady business owner, is refusing to remedy the situation and is trying to keep my $340 she so wrongfully STOLE from me saying my husband checked into her facility June 1st. We were in Talkeetna for my birthday and stayed in Denali National Park -- so no, we did not check in and should be refunded the full amount. Will I be? No, because this isn't the first time nor the last that she will do this to people. I read reviews such as this on Yelp and I should've known better. *DO NOT COME TO THIS GYM* The overall experience was and still is ridiculous! The owner is a THIEF & full of excuses! The staff is clueless & needs more training, the parking is horrible, and not to mention the prices of the memberships at Alaska Fitness are super expensive and not WORTH IT! Jen (the owner) continues to steal money from my bank account! She has caused my bank account chaos with her unauthorized charges. Jen is horrible with communication and never seems to care or have time for her customers, actually I even have it in writing when she decided to email me back, she said, "I don't have time for this I am a busy woman!" - So fixing your mistake for your customer and responding to your clients is a waste of time? I couldn't believe her tone and responses in person or in email. She was unbearably rude to me. Jen also said I can take my concerns to the Better Business Bureau of Alaska. Which indeed I will with all of my documentation. Good luck if you do decide to join this gym! Expect the sauna and steam room are often out of order and are not clean, also note (tanning) is almost the price of another membership if you decide to add it on your membership just so you are aware. Also if you happen to ever have a concern that fraudulent charges are happening from AK Fitness don't expect a fast response to your emails and/or phone calls in a timely matter. Jen the owner will wait until it is too late and she will not fix the issue, she refuses to delete your CC info off of your account on her system, and it says your membership is, "cancelled" instead of following thru with the necessary steps to cancel the membership entirely! She has been wrongfully charging my credit card since October, 2018. She is unapologetic and sneaky! After recognizing these unauthorized charges coming out of my account I complained and was baffled that this was happening AGAIN. Not only does she refuse to refund my account all the months she stole from me, she decided to give me a one month gym membership for free and then shortened that by not finishing out the free one month membership. After finding out she once again charged my CC ($59.99) again this month, I reached out almost immediately and she never called me back or responded to my emails having me come into the gym to ask for her @ the front desk. Every time I called she was, "In a meeting" or not there. I am glad I went in to find a hand written unprofessional letter/note that was left for me @ the front desk by Jen, she wrote on the letter that I have a "no entry" on my account suddenly, and now she says, I "owe her" money after going to my bank to get the unauthorized charges settled and refunded to my account. I am so disappointed with her and this business, her actions have been showing nothing but shady business and unethical behavior. I want nothing to do with this gym and just want my account fixed and or cancelled in the appropriate way it should be for once and all. I am the laziest person when it comes to writing a review, but I have to let other people know. I signed up for the monthly service back in 2023. I only signed up for a few classes. The first one was with a different trainer, but she was not experienced. I talked to the owner Jen, and she agreed to train me. She did a pretty good job at training base on a few days. I trained for her for a little then found someone better on base. We agreed on that day in person that I already paid for everything and to have her canceled/removed my account. She never did and continues to try to charge my credit card as of 2/2024. They were still sending me an email trying to have me pay for something that should've been canceled a long time ago. I tried to resolve last year by emailing and calling, but no one was responding back. When I first read other reviews, other people have similar problems. I should've listen to them. Very fat phobic environment. The owner Jen will give you $10 Off if you take a body scan, along with completing some other tasks. I went to this body scan with my fiancé and Jen was very fatohobic to us. She immediately offered a weight loss program with no qualifications or eduction to offer aside from "a 20 year career in bodybuilding". I previously experienced an eating disorder and found it to be very to be very triggering. After I told her I had no interest in weight loss she told me," it didn't matter because I was unhealthy". I would not recommend this gym to people with eating disorders, body dismorphia, or overweight individuals. If you sign up, don't do the body scan with Jen. she asked us to leave a review, and I left a very honest one, and she never replied to it. I absolutely would not recommend this Gym. I've worked in gyms, and I'm studying to be a nutritionist and personal trainer, myself. I would not recommend this Gym to anyone. Good machines, but not anything you can't find somewhere else. I go to three different gyms and I haven't been to this one since even though I pay for the membership because I am unwilling to overlook offering people diet plans without any formal education or training. Extremely dangerous and unsafe. Trying to force people on a weight loss plan is even more than extremely dangerous and unsafe. It's even more dangerous and unsafe to be doing it while that person might have an eating disorder. As someone that has a background in nutrition, this left me with such a bad taste in my mouth. Very expensive, always packed, never clean (and never enough towels to clean with on your own), the employees have no idea what's going on, the tanning booth is disgusting and the bulbs do not work, everything is old... It's a disaster. Also, we tried to cancel our membership (after buying one on a weekend - when no one is there and after being promised that it was never much busier than that) and we're told that you have to prove that you're moving more than 70 miles away, pay $100 and give a 30 day notice in writing. We did not even see, much less sign a contract that said this. This place is a scam. Don't waste your time and money. read more

If you're looking for a rather inexpensive gym that is open 24/7, then this is one of the better options in Anchorage IMO. Again, I wish Yelp would do half star ratings, because I'm at a solid 3.5 star on them. Central Anchorage location is pretty decent if you live anywhere near midtown to north end of town, pretty short commute. If you're into bulking, there's a Taco King right next door. If you're into cutting weight, good luck ;-) Membership is generally about half what you would probably expect to pay at the Alaska Club (depending on your level of membership, and family size, etc.), and about bit less that some of the other similar commercial gyms you might find through out town. They also don't hit you with an enrollment fee, which is nice. They have a variety of options for signing up, so you don't necessarily need to get locked into a contract, though that is the route I chose to go. I generally go early in the morning (before 7am), so this review is based on my experiences around that time of day. At that time in the morning, it isn't too busy, but I've been there later in the day, so I can see how some people would say it can get packed. Staff has been friendly whenever I've been through there, always either a "hello" or "have a good work out" when I walk in; and a "have a nice day" when I leave. If I've ever had an inquiry, they've been attentive. So far, towels have always been on hand when I've been there. I've made some adjustments to my account since I've joined, and the front desk staff goofed on a couple of things (but I'd say this was more due to a lack-of-training on the computer system, rather than inadequate workers). I was able to just email Jen (the owner) and she has been really helpful and responsive in addressing/resolving my issues, so that has made up for the original errors. I primarily utilize the facilities for weights, so I can't speak for the classes and other amenities too much, but it seems like they have a wide variety of offerings. Some other reviewers have commented on the age of the equipment, and while some if it may be older, it is still functional and you can get a good lifting session in. I have a hard time using cardio equipment, as I normally want to go outside and/or do some other type of activity for this purpose, so I haven't used the cardio equipment yet (I'll update if I do so....we'll see lol). They have a wide variety of equipment as far as weights go, so you can definitely customize your workouts depending on your overall strength goals. **NOTE** if you're into Olympic weightlifting (clean & jerks, snatches, etc.), this might not be the best facility for you. The layout and lack of area for this type of lifting will hinder your goals. If your goal is power lifting, they have a decent layout for that. There's a couple of bench press setups, 3 squat racks, but only 1 dead lift platform (you can try and find another spot to dead lift if this is occupied, so this is kind of annoying, as adequate floor space for dead lifting is limited) (also, if the dead lift platform is being utilized, it is located directly behind one of the squat racks, so it makes it rather awkward to try and use that station if all the other ones are in use, so this is a layout issue). If your goal is general strength training, then they have a plethora of different types of machines, I typically gravitate towards the Hammer Strength machines, and occasionally utilize the other setups. Their dumbbell rack is decent and the weights can go up to in excess of 130+ lbs. The locker rooms are okay. 4 showers in the Men's. There's a sauna and steam room. Decent sized sauna, and you are able to put water on the rocks it seems for an added kick. The steam room is one where there's a button located on the wall for added steam, though the output isn't very high so it might take a bit for it to reach high temps. All in all, a decent gym with a decent amount to offer, considering the space and layout limitations. I've enjoyed my time here thus far. read more

I found Alaska Fitness after canceling my membership at the hell hole that I will unlovingly refer to as The Cosmic Body Fitness Location That Supposed Never Judges But Totally Does And Is A Crap Hole. I'm in love with AF! Not only is this place open 24/7 (not 24/5, but 365 days a week, every minute of every day), but all of their classes they offer are included in the membership. That's right. No paying extra five or ten bucks here and there to take more classes like some other gyms in town. Their monthly fee is extremely reasonable. I pay $36 a month as a student, which completely makes it worth it, since I love taking their classes. They have yoga, Zumba, weights, cardio, spinning, you name it. Not to mention, their staff is all really polite and helpful. They also feature a variety of personal trainers. There's tanning beds as well. Lots of the machines have little televisions built in, so you can watch some Jersey Shore or other brain-numbing crap while on the treadmill. The free weights section is pretty big, and there are a lot more weight/resistance machines than my aforementioned previous gym. Yep. If you're tired of the trendy, discount gym BS like I was, and are willing to fork out an extra $16 for convenience and classes and more, go by AF. You'll fall in love, too read more

I am someone who looks for the best quality services I can find for the right price. After extensive research I stumbled upon Alaska Fitness. Most of the staff was great. Great facility. We went to the grand opening and got a three day pass to try the facility and the third day there was a mishap. We went around 4 or 5 in the evening and the short brunette (lady) with glasses gave us attitude about our third day. She didn't care about us as customers and she was very rude. The other two representatives that we worked out with previously said it was ok they seen us and knew us but because she was so rude and unapologetic. We left. There are gyms within a 5 mile radius that charges who have diff rates facilities and representatives. There is a lot of competition for someone to treat customers like she did. After being told 'Ok, no problem, I will end it for you" I get charged. I thought it was just a mistake so I reached out to remedy the problem. That's when I get told about this fee and proof of moving papers and just a whole spiel. I'm extremely disappointed. I was SO, SO pleasantly surprised when I wrote my initial review.
