My personal motivation is to better myself both mentally and physically so I can be a better person and father. Red Dragon pushes me to accomplish this, and Sensei TJ is an effective motivator. I have been a teacher with ASD for over 20 years, so I have been around all types of people young and old. Sensei TJ is as "real" as they come. He says what is on his mind and he will not lie to or coddle his students. He absolutely loves martial arts training and physical fitness. He is a wealth of knowledge about first aid, all types of weapons (including firearms), traditional Chinese forms, boxing, wrestling, and practical applications for self-defense. Sensei loves to tell stories about his past and the lessons he learned growing up in Alaska. He wants to make sure that the young people in his school make good decisions and are accountable for their actions. Red Dragon is not a "black belt factory." It is not a dojo that is motivated by money. Instead, the focus is on training and consistency. Sensei TJ always tells us that life is about choices, and you either choose to dedicate your time and train hard or choose not to. I am a busy person just like everyone else, but I make time to come 2 to 3 times a week. The dojo itself is beautiful! Sensei has spent a lot of time and effort to make both the inside dojo and the outside dojo very functional and visually stunning! We all take pride in helping to maintain it. The inside has mats, tons of equipment, a weight room and dummies. The outside has obstacle courses, climbing wall, ropes, zip line, weight equipment, weapons, dummies, and the ever-popular throwing star target. You cannot find another martial arts dojo like it anywhere else in Anchorage. It is truly one-of-a-kind. My family has been going for about 2 years now and we don't ever plan on quitting. It really is a special place, and I hope it continues to thrive!

But Teresa put me right at ease even brought her own water so I didn't feel like I was entertaining a guest but was there to get down to Yoga business. And she brought all of her own props. Teresa tailored our sessions to my needs and moods. That was the really neat thing about working one on one, you can adjust your poses in classes but it always feels awkward not following along. But one on one it's a completely collaborative experience. At the end of each session she reviewed the session and gave me a little, manageable homework. Also, there is a little bit of get to know you paperwork in the beginning. Another great tool in my yoga toolbox.

You're not stuck facing a wall on cardio equipment and each one has a tv with direct tv attached to it for ease. The music playing in the gym has been pretty good and I did notice you can snap a QR and add music to play over the speakers. The staff have been quite nice and the facility is clean. It's a little weird that there are giant bowls of candy at the front desk when most people there are trying to change or maintain a lifestyle of health & fitness. For those that are new or nervous in the gym, the circuit training is a great introduction. 30 minutes of weights and cardio, one step/machine at a time. We enjoy the hydro loungers at the end of our workouts, which is quite a nice way to relax afterwards, for a few minutes. What I don't like is the lack of privacy... sure you're dressed but whenever you're laying there, everyone that walks by looks at you like you're on display. I know, I may be weird about this, but a privacy curtain would be nice. I do wish there was a sauna or steam room to go along with the black card perks, but it's not a necessity, just wishful.

The assistants at the desk are all cheery and helpful. They answer all our questions and start our message equipment in a timely manner. I always see them cleaning and restocking the gym. Things like toweling and sanitizer. It's the same gear that we've grown accustomed to since our start back in 2010. So good on them. It's the perfect atmosphere for us. We never feel intimidated or judged. People just do their own thing and keep to themselves. We feel comfortable here. The black card Level is $20 a month. With that I get full use of the equipment, 24 hrs a day (except weekends). I have unlimited access to tanning booths, message chairs and four hydro massage tables that kick ass. PRO TIP: We sign up for two sessions of hydro massage instead of just one. Fourteen minutes of pure heaven, is much better than seven. We haven't done it yet, but they also offer multiple classes for both group and individuals. For free. There's even a small relaxation lounge for afterwards. We kid ourselves and pretend we belong to a fancy club. But really, how much is pretending? 07/22

So I found Mrs. K's Diaper Service through our pediatrician...all I can say is WOW!!! The difference is amazing, so easy, affordable, and no more dealing with stubborn stains, or her rashes from disposables, I love cloth diapering now...and have even converted my friends- thank you Mrs. K's :)

There is not too much ice on the trail and other than a snack and a single glove that someone seemingly dropped accidentally, it is fairly clean. The initial incline will have you gasping for air (you'll be fine if you're fit or not coming from flat, low incline area). There are a lot of switchbacks but the trail is clearly marked.

This is a great after-work hike, especially if you're getting bored of Flattop…read more The hike is shorter than Flattop (only 1.5 miles one way) and probably has less gain (although I'm not certain). Don't be fooled by its being in Eagle River, the driving distance is still pretty similar to Flattop. (you can go faster on many of the roads) The hike is pretty steep and the trail isn't incredibly defined in spots, but it's straightforward. Just keep going up. It's not a scramble like Flattop, you'll never need to use your hands. There ain't many trees up here, hence the name. You'll get some really unique view of the Eagle River area Chugach mountains. You can turn this into a larger hike by continuing up the ridge to Blacktail Ptarmigan Rocks, or a longer day by going up to Roundtop. If you want to go higher still, you can go up Vista Peak. This trailhead is still accessible in the winter, just be sure to bring gaiters and/or snowshoes. Huge snow drifts can accumulate on the trail, and you will probably punch through a couple times. This trail sees enough traffic that there will often be a bootpack leading up, though. I'd also recommend some form of foot-traction/spikes if doing it with snow. Watch out for: the winds. They can be pretty insane up here. I went up yesterday and it was sustained 40mph with 50-60mph gusts!
