After it reopened, the reservation system was a plus. Pool locker rooms are dark. Using the bathroom feels like being locked in a coffin. Pool is downstairs, but spinner for wet bathing suits is upstairs, with no handicap access. This place is not handicap friendly at all. There is a long, long narrow walkway on a steep incline as the handicap access. This is impossible to navigate in a wheelchair due to the steepness of the incline. There is also no handrail to help those with shortness of breath or balance issues. The one time I used the ramp, no one responded to open the door, which is locked. It is also not covered, which is a problem when it is raining, in the off chance that someone may actually answer the door. After being open for a couple of months, they closed again, but once again were asking members to keep paying dues to reduce the burden on the club. The combination of excessive quantities of chlorine and the pool's ridiculously high temperature causes problems for many users. Unfortunately my partner and I made a year commitment before we knew this, which is our fault. Don't make the same mistake. Additionally the social atmosphere of the regular workout room is bizarre. Due to space limitations the work out equipment has to share space with the weight lifting room. This includes a lot of weight lifting dudes standing around staring and having the kind of conversations I'm more comfortable hearing secondhand at a bar. The women's workout room, no doubt developed in direct reaction to this scenario, is small but sufficient. Tennis aficionados may like this place for its popular indoor courts. It seems to be the most significant feature of the Berlin location. We changed our membership to the Montpelier First in Fitness which has no pool and no courts but a better floor plan and location.

They store and sell maple syrup next to the men's locker room, so expect to smell an odious mixture of syrup, mildew, and sweat while you're getting changed. There are bats. Yes, inside the gym. You may see them flapping around the rafters, or hanging upside down from the ceiling. You will find their carcasses on the floor, and sometimes their corpses will tumble out of otherwise-innocent-looking weight equipment. Complaints about this are met with derision by the gym staff, and are largely ignored. Last I checked, there was a bat carcass still decorating the floor from over a month ago.

She says "Yoga happens when your thoughts, intentions, and actions align" and I don't know anyone who seems to live that more fully than her. She tailors her Vinyasa classes to the needs of those present and she seems to offer just the right amount of advice and individual assistance while conducting class so naturally that you would think she's been doing it for decades - because she has. She can challenge you demonstrating arm balances and handstands with so much stillness, while keeping in touch with what it's like to have the needs of a humble beginner. I haven't known Sara and Benj for nearly as long but Sara's Ashtanga practice is really impressive and her knowledge of it seems very deep and nuanced, offering many alternative options for each part of the series. All of their bodywork offerings are loving and generous. They have gone for a more colorful studio look and they are still working out what schedule would best meet the needs of the community.

She has rotational disks, barrels, a Stotts chair, three reformers and a menagerie of balls, weights etc to increase the efficiency, precision, and difficulty of each movement in slow careful increments. I just can't say enough good things. Every session brings me strength I thought was gone forever!!!! Safety first!
