This is the main gym that I go to. I have been a member of Planet Fitness for a couple of years. I used to work out in the Financial District but now I am closer to home. The location is great with several stores and restaurants in the area. You can work out, pick up groceries from Target, and get some food from a nearby restaurant. This is a large gym with two floors full of equipment. The busiest time is usually weekday evening hours. The weekends are when I usually go. It is mostly empty and I can work out at my own pace. The only hectic time is at the start of the year when everyone is here starting to work out. Everything is clean and easy to access. There are times where a machine is broken or a ceiling tile needs to be replaced but those issues are fixed quickly. Everyone is friendly and helpful here. I love the large amount of space to walk around. Compared to the Wall Street location, this place gives you a lot of breathing room. I will continue to work out here and keep up with my fitness journey. read more

3 months ago this place was a dump, They charged for maintenance, but everything was always dirty, the machines were all broken, and there was never even paper to clean. But for the past 3 months it's been wonderful to come to the gym, everything is impeccable, new machines There is always someone refilling cleaning stations I love this place. The machines are in order of use. Now there's more space for stretching. It's a complete and perfect gym. Congratulations to the new management. read more

AC upstairs out for over 1 week. Is a recurrent problem. Staff and management (and seemingly many members) don't seem to care. Is a violation in terms of providing a safe workout space, as it's only a matter of time til someone has a heat-exhaustion induced medical event. Currently it smells like week-old socks and underwear, with sweat dripping from members; including teens with sweat-wet hair posing in mirrors to post selfies! It's a truly an awesome microbial Petri dish upstairs! If you want to catch the latest flavor of (bodily)-fluid transmitted infection, come to Planet Fitness at 225th in the Bronx ! To the management - what is the point of upgrading equipment a few months ago (which is awesome) , yet concurrently running a literal exercise oven! I often wonder, if this club were located in a richer neighborhood would serious matters like this be fixed promptly. UPDATE - interesting that I received a manager response in real time, although my complaints fell on deaf ears when I complained to 2 staff members a week ago (they pretended not to understand English). Closed 1/9/25 to upgrade equipment. Took away ~11"non-eliptical" Arc machines. Reopened 1/11/25. Replaced ~(11)"non-eliptical" Arc machines w/ only (3)"non-eliptical" Arc's of which (1)wasn't hooked up properly. Know this cause I was there 1/11 by 12N... There were ~(21)total treadmills be4 the "upgrade". Now there are (0)downstairs & ~(10)upstairs with ~(3)of those were OFFLINE or no hooked up correctly...For a facility "UPGRADE", I consider this "SUB-PAR" especially when u consider the HORDES of people who make "getting fit" a part of their New Year's resolutions read more

This location use to be my favorite, but it have become the worst place with the insane amount of high school guys and AC for also 2 weeks and half, I haven't been able to workout because the high school kids take all the machine, cables and dumbbells and don't respect the rest of the people that actually pay for her membership time, Planet Fitness really need to do something about this easy this is the second summer with the same situation, put some schedule for those kids because is no fair for rest of the people that pay for their membership. read more

Planet Fitness - Clipped locker. - Gyms Near Me - Bronx, New York

This gym is horrible and do not follow sexual harassment policies or policies for discrimination against LBGTQ. A few months back I canceled my membership because of a group of men that were sexually harassing me and one of the men got so mad I wasn't giving him the time of day so he yelled out " that's a tranny" and they laughed ! He then went on to say my body is manly and my ass is fake. I just thought to myself wow what If I actually was a transgender and what if there was transgender people around listening to this ? How would they feel ? So I went to complain and the young lady at the front did confront him about the situation and was very kind to pass the message on to the supervisor, who by the way never got back to me! According to the policy he should been immediately removed but he wasn't ! This was a horrific and traumatizing experience. Also there is a group of Dominican people , and I am Dominican myself so I am not saying this in a races way, and they formed a inside club within the gym to hold the machines for hours for each other ! No one enforces this ! Also if you are fit and curvy expect dirty looks and insults at this gym ! Please stay away from this gym ! read more

As of today, February 18, I count 17!!!!! SEVENTEEN non roped off machines without pins on the upper floor, meaning only three or four are actually usable at one time. Yelp is there a way to give zero stars? This is simply outrageous, plus big leaks again on the upper floor a large portion of the floor shut off. Planet Fitness cut the nonsense. You need to offer a serious apology to every single member. You are a bunch of incompetent people. So planet fitness customer service responds to my reviews by telling me to express my concerns to the facility management. Are you total idiots -- have you not been reading my emails that's all I've been doing is complaining to local management? What's the definition of insanity? I've tried other gyms. I've been to the City Recreational Center gyms and I've done the $80 a month places. Planet Fitness is the "bang" for the buck. To be honest, I go strictly to use the treadmill. So keep that in mind when weighing the value of this review. I work out there, but that's just pushups and pull ups. Even with that, the stations that I use are crowded. I put my feet up to mimic the incline press during pushups, so there's only one place in the corner to do that without blocking traffic. And there are only two stations for pull ups. And it's the machine, which you can dismantle the seat, but your knees keep hitting it. That being said, I haven't had to wait for a treadmill yet. That was an issue with the City gyms. Lack of treadmills. And I love the clientele at Planet Fitness a whole lot better. I don't know what it is about expensive places, but I want to exercise and sweat in anonymity. There's too much "showboating" at the expensive places: chicks in, I kid you not, bikini tops prancing around; and dudes having hour long conversations in front of a much needed machine. I really hate leaving this review because I really liked this PF pre-COVID. Now, the second floor is FULL of personal trainers & their clients sometimes 4/5 deep hogging the machines. I complained to the front desk about this problem considering PF supposedly has a "no personal trainers" policy. You can't use the Synergy machine, the entire floor area by the Synergy is full of the PT's clients, the kettlebells are also hogged. I can't keep getting up at 3am to avoid this crowd man. I am so annoyed as I write this--bear with me. I work 9-5, Mon-Fri like most and I already don't want to go here AFTER Spartan kicking my way through Manhattan traffic on the 1 train. To only get here and change into my workout gear after checking in with the ever-so-pleasant ghetto-attitude having front desk staff (most days, not all) and to then ATTEMPT to get a workout...only thing is that people decide to sit & have lengthy conversations on the machines you're attempting to get. The staff does NOT walk around to try and enforce any kind of rules, or anything, so you are going to wait FOREVER for a machine. So...I decided to walk right out after wasting my time. Look, I understand you're getting exactly wtf you pay for...I get it. $10 monthly is going to only get you so far, but this is not okay. Do something--anything to enforce shorter times during peak periods for the machines. You have WAY too many cardio machines with not enough weights. Not everyone feels secure working out alongside huge obnoxious groups. Nope, we don't. Some of us like to have confidence and work out without feeling like we're trying to get into the hottest club. I originally had a membership with PF then cancelled after a year bc of Blink Fitness--then ultimately left them for the same issue, to go back to PF. Peak periods aren't an excuse for people not to be able to use the equipment they are paying to use. Do better. read more

I started my fitness journey back in 2014 and went to a different Planet Fitness. I then moved in 2016 and this happened to be the nearest PF in the neighborhood. Had the other remained open, I would probably still go to that one. Either way, this is the PF that I frequent. I usually go in the mornings around 545ish/6 and it's not really packed at that time. It's usually just the same people. It's a very organized gym and the machines are pretty brand new as I recall them shutting down the gym for a few days so they could renovate it a bit. The lockers are usually clean as are the showers, so I have no issues with that. The employees are nice. Greeting me as I walk in and wishing me a great day whenever I'm on my way out. read more

My first gym ever to attend was this one right here. I like how is very spacious staff is very friendly, and theirs free parking. The first floor has a lot of running machines and the 30 minute work out machines. It also has a few vending machines and the tanning section. The second floor has the weights and more running machines. The selections on there weights are amazing they have multiple machines so no one has to be waiting. I really recommend this gym. Wat's better than free parking, great staff workers, and just the perfect amount of machines for your daily rutines. You can also ask for yoga classes and a personal trainer. I'm not sure how much they charge for that but i have had a few friends that tried it and gotten great results back. read more

Pros: - if you get the 18mo prepaid membership, your monthly breakdown comes to 11.98/mo. (2017). Other plans can get as low as 13.98/mo if you do the math, but if you can afford it, you should do the $20/mo plan (go to any PF location, bring a guest anytime, free tanning/massage) and I think there is a trainer on staff for all members (free). - plenty free parking (Target lot) - open 24/5 - recently renovated (2017) ... all new lockers etc - friendly people - free coffee/bagels once a month - doesn't get so busy that you can't use your machines (I go in the mornings). Cons: - music too loud recently! - they used to have a beautiful view of the water that's now blocked (maybe could use some pretty pics on the walls) - sometimes people can get too loud when they congregate around a machine and get to chatting (my dear Dominicanos, you know;). - they don't allow outside (personal) fitness trainers to come with their clients, which is -imho- a very stupid policy cuz you lose business that way (the membership of bunches of people). I have been member of this Planet Fitness for 2 years and overall I'm pleased with the experience. I thought that a thorough review was needed, hence the very long write-up below. Why this Gym: I visited several gyms in the area (PF, Bally's, Astral, TRC of Riverdale, and the Riverdale YM-YWHA). The last two weren't within walking distance from my home, so I eliminated them. Bally's had a sign-up sheet for treadmills and a 30-minute limit during "peak" hours, which made it unattractive. Astral felt unwelcoming and marketed to bodybuilders (which I'm not). Planet Fitness felt welcoming, it was within walking distance from home and the price was unbeatable. The courteous staff was a plus. Gym Culture: If you have previous gym experiences, you will notice some oddities. This gym offers free pizzas on the 1st Monday of every month. There is a huge container of free Tootsie Rolls. The gym has 4 (or 5?) tanning booths, which I rarely see being used (and haven't used myself). This gym doesn't offer group classes. The gym is geared towards those who have never stepped into a gym (which becomes obvious after a while), but it does get gym-goers with more gym experience. The 30-Minute Circuit: In theory, it's great; in practice, not so much. Gym-goers linger around the machines texting or having 30-minute conversations. Others don't know or voluntarily ignore the rules of the circuit. Due to this, it's impossible to use the 10 machines during peak hours. It would be great if the manager/ staff could enforce the rules. Machines: I was using a treadmill last September and it broke while using it. The manager apologized and mentioned that new machines were to arrive on October 20 (2011). Boy, he was right - the new machines are great! The gym also added many more machines, using every inch of square footage (although leaving narrow walking spaces). New Treadmills: Again, the new machines are great. The treadmills have a docking port for iTouch or iPhones to place your gadget and connect your headphones to the treadmill for easier access to your music. (Psss... I haven't used it for music, but I have used it to charge my iPhone...). I do have few complaints about the new treadmills: 1) after returning from "pause" you are not brought back to your original speed, and instead restart at .5; 2) the maximum time is 60 minutes (like the old ones). Air circulation: This location has a serious problem with air circulation. It can be muggy and hot on the first floor, and cool and breezy on the second (or the other way around). This air circulation problem is NOT correlated to the number of gym-goers; we have visited the gym at crowded and non-crowded hours and experienced the same issue. This is something that needs to be corrected ASAP. Cleanliness: Overall, this Gym is pretty clean. We have seen the cleaning staff on site, and they seem to do a very thorough job. The restrooms also seem clean. I can't comment on the showers because I've never used them. It would be great if the staff could ask gym-goers to wipe the machines after their use (although to be fair, this is a problem that seems to exist at almost every gym). Safety: I often visit the gym alone and overall feel fairly safe, but it's because I intentionally dress with loose and unattractive clothing when I'm alone. If I were to dress with form-fitting clothing, there are tons of guys staring at women like meat.(Note: I'll be the first one to say that I'm not the hottest thing in town, but I guess these guys go to the gym to pick up girls - any girl). But do know that not all guys at this gym are like that. The second safety concern is with properties left at the restroom lockers. Unfortunately, there are too many occurrences of stolen property, and in the past two years I've seen NYPD arrive at least five times to write theft reports. Simply put: don't leave valuables in the lockers. Price: If you sign up the last week of December you can get the 1-year membership for $100 (one-time payment). I have done this for the past two years. Some health insurances (like Oxford Freedom, which we have) offer reimbursement of gym memberships, making it completely free. You can't beat that! Location: It's conveniently located near a busy shopping area, just steps away from Marshalls and Target. You might find relaxing to work-out while overlooking the river (Psss... I do!). Given that it's so conveniently located it shouldn't come as a surprise that the gym is also crowded. Business hours: It's open non-stop from Monday at 12AM to Friday at 11:59pm. (Yeap, that's 24-hrs M-F!). Saturdays and Sundays it's open 7am-7pm. We wish it also opened 24 hours on weekend, but it's certainly not needed. Summary: + Convenient location and business hours + Unbeatable pricing. + New machines +or- Strange gym culture. - Very crowded. - Bad air circulation - Safety concerns - Gym rules are not enforced (30-min circuit) read more

When I got a very deeply discounted rate at Equinox, I knew it was time to say goodbye to Planet Fitness. Fortunately, the process was easy and painless. Sometimes, when you cancel your service, the staff gets annoyed or hostile. Not at PF...they were supportive! PF employee 1 (looking down at form): What is your reason for canceling? k rey: I actually got a big discount on membership to Equinox, and I couldn't pass it up. PF employee 1 (looks up in awe): Oh, Equinox! That place is sooo much better than we are!!! k rey: *smiles* PF employee 2, jumping into the exchange: Have you seen their bathrooms and locker rooms?! k rey: Yeah, they're pretty nice. PF employee 2: That place is like gym heaven! So just in case I was feeling insecure about my decision, Planet Fitness confirmed it was the right move :-) Honestly, I can't complain about my time there -- $20 for an NYC gym! I won't miss the crowds, or the percentage of people that didn't do the circuit workout in the circuit zone (which screws up everyone else who is trying to do the circuit...ugh) but I will still recommend it to any uptowners who want a no-frills, no budget-busting experience. If I could give this location negative stars I would. Horrible experience trying to *sign up*! I've belonged to 4 different Planet Fitnesses. They're never amazing, but always fine. You know what you're getting: a basic gym for cheap. I've had bad experiences trying to leave gyms in the past and I understand that. But I don't understand how a gym could provide a bad experience trying to become a member. I guess they have more than enough business and don't ever need any more members. I know this rant will be ignored by Planet Fitness. They clearly do not care but it'll be cathartic to get this out. So here goes: I walk in and tell the young woman working there that I'm interested in joining. Her coworker and her are both wearing their masks below their noses. There's a sign on the front door that says masks are required. Either they are required or not! When I say I'm interested in joining the gym, the woman sighs dramatically and says loudly that she is tired. Oh, I'm sorry to inconvenience you and ask you to do your job! She walks around pointing out obvious things like "these are the treadmills" and such. As we walk around I notice about 1/3 of the people are wearing their masks below their noses (just like the people who work there!) and some people have their masks completely off. I would be fine with no masks if the gym also required everyone to be vaccinated but that's not the case. So wear your f*ing masks! She doesn't point out any of the heavier weights but she does walk by the 2-and 3-lb weights and says "here, we have small weights for women." FOR WOMEN!??! WOAH! As a woman who doesn't typically use small weights but also knows men who do... I found this beyond sexist! I decide to let this go and not teach her a lesson. Instead I say I'd like to sign up for your basic package. She tells me that the promotion just ended and it'll be more money. (I check later online and the promotion is still going...). But, I say okay at the time. She clearly wants to get back to talking to her coworker and chillin' so she passes me the iPad to put in my own information. In my experience, it's the job of the people working there to input the new member information. She then claims that although I gave her my debit card, she can't sign me up because I don't have my account info on me. That's never been a thing in the past; they can just charge my card. I said "Well, I don't have it on me." At this point she could have said well you can work out tonight but input it next time or you can call us later with the info or ANYTHING. But she just says, "There's nothing I can do." SO, after putting up with her attitude and un-professionalism for way too long I left. I should have saved myself the trouble and aggravation and left immediately when she sighed at the idea of showing me around the gym. What a f*ing horrible person and gym! read more

I imagine that the worst gym in the world has wild dogs chasing you on the treadmill. ...men filled with roid rage throwing barbells at one another. ...mold filled bathrooms attended by crackheads, who immediately steal your things the moment you leave. ...trained monkey that slaps you after every sit up. ...no TV's. The world's worst gym will NOT have TV's. According to my imagination, this is not the world's worst gym and besides the youths milling about in jeans, this gym isn't so bad. It's clean, the equipment is new. Men, there seems to be some security issues in the men's locker room, so I would suggest you stuff an angry troll with a pick-ax in your locker for added protection. I hate people. Therefore I needed to find a gym that was open 24 hours so I can avoid them. This gym has a great schedule except on weekends when it's not 24 hours. Reviewing it from someone who goes between 3am-5am, I love this gym because: Never packed (never seen more than about 7 people at once), I can embarrass myself with my weakness and noone is watching or caring. I would never join this gym if it didn't have late hours because I can see the problem the crowding can create: this gym doesn't have enough variety, so God forbid it's ab and leg day you'll be stuck waiting awhile. I joined for $10/month (that promotion for those like me with a new years resolution in January), and it's more than worth it (AGAIN because I work out at 3am-5am) read more

On Saturday February 13th 2010 between the time of 11:13 and 1:30pm my laptop was burglarized from a Planet Fitness Locker. I have informed the police and have notified AL who is responsible for this location. (225th and Broadway, Bronx, NY) I had been instructed by Planet Fitness staff to secure my items into a locker, for the safety of your members, and these instructions have proven to be the cause of my direct theft. Since my direct violation I no longer feel secure in this environment and unintimidated as I was promised when I signed up in the 4th quarter of 2009. Manager Al said insurance would cover it, then swiftly changed his tone as weeks progressed. I sued Planet Fitness for the cost of my laptop $2000+ and they didn't go to court the first scheduling. The second time the Director came and was very well spoken, and from what I saw a respectable human being. He even agreed to help me with getting another one even if the arbitrator didn't rule in my favor. A week later the judge didn't, and I never heard from him again. Me and 4 witnesses that were with me that day were put out because they were caught mentioning my theft with other club members, some of who were burglarized themselves. The manager even called the cops from the 44th precinct. When the cops arrived I didn't have to say a word, he already knew. He said "I'm here about 6 times a month" By the way the members asked to leave the club were one woman in her 30's another in her 60's and another 68 year old man. The Manager Al's then lied and said that the 60 year old woman cursed him out. The cop just doing his job took the report. This was the first time that I've seen the victim of a crime (myself) punished twice in one day. My suggestion to Al was that they enforce security, to this he took offense and told the cop "I told him how to run his club. By the way the same day I was burglarized 2 other men were burglarized too but did not show up to my trial. One was a guest to the club that day and had his clothes taken, and the other was a member and had his running shoes taken. When I asked to place a sign up to notify other members and guest . They said they could not do it . So It is my duty to warn you of the constant thefts that occur in this establishment. II kept in contact with the 60 year old woman that was witness to this. Since being rudely ejected from the Bronx location at 225th she signed up at the 125th Harlem location. She said that they had made changes in security and had a police in the locker room now. She was enjoying this location until Manager Al was transferred to this location one day and he called the police and asked them to put out this 60 year old woman. When she told me this I thought it was beyond low and for Planet Fitness to continue to punish it's victimized members is wrong, shameful, classless and arrogant. I have written almost all levels of their chain of command with no response, not even word of remorse. Then again like it's said, I'm not the only one. Don't be afraid to speak up, $10 a month is no excuse for treating members as CRIMINALS. I had enjoyed my weekends here before I was kicked out for being burglarized. The sad part is that I would have continued to go back if they showed any respect for it's members and came through on their PROMISES to 1:Let their insurance handle it 2:Do as their Director told me in court and help me Instead each time someone asks me about PLANET FITNESS I must tell them about what low values they demonstrate. read more

You get what you pay for. I appreciate the fact that for $20 a month you have access to all their Planet Fitness locations and you can bring a friend. That's perhaps the only plus I find in regards to the membership. As for the gym, echoing what some other reviewers have said, it leaves much to be desired. It can get pretty crowded especially during rush hours. However I've heard that if you go in the morning is not as bad. Though there a lot of machines, there's not a lot of variety. They don't have stair masters at ANY of their locations :-( They don't really offer fitness classes either. The second floor smells really bad, I don't know why. The first floor is ok I guess because there's a lot of open space. For a gym that's so big and has so many people, there are only 4 yoga mats which are taken most of the time. No swiss balls either. It's basically just machines. I particularly cancelled my membership. I rather pay a little more and get a better gym experience. read more

I am only writing this review to piggy-back onto my sister's (Kathleen R), but weigh in with a male's perspective. I worked out with her husband on new years day (after a rather big drinking night), and had a few observations. Like Kathleen said, the price is super cheap. So thats a plus i suppose. However, a few cons: 1) SUPER crowded. This could be due to a national holiday, but my brother-in-law suggested this was not the case. 2) This gym is designed for light workouts only. The dumbells only go to 60??? There are no flat bench presses. (!!!). WTF. They do have like 2 smith macheines, but because of the previously mentioned lack of benches, they are constantly in use, with 3 or 4 others waiting to jump on. So I guess if you want to work chest, go on Sunday night, or at 5 in the morning or something. All in all an ok gym, but dont go here if you have even slight bodybuilding aspirations. I did appreciate the lenient guest policy, and the price tag is certainly good if you just want to do some cardio, and have a light DB workout. read more

I find the staff generally helpful and friendly, and the facilities are basic but sufficient. Cleanliness is good. My only problem is with the occasional blasting of music. Today, it totally threw my workout off as volume was so loud it overrode my headphones at maximum. I spoke to the manager another time this happened and was told the staff had no control over the music. This seems kind of funny, given that the volume was cranked about 5 seconds after a new song had started. Again, overall the place is fine and I am not complaining about the music selection which, to be fair to everyone, is nicely varied. My issue is with staff blasting music (apparently for their own enjoyment) while some of the rest of us suffer. Not even close to the top of my list of good gyms, but it gets the job done. I have been going here for over a year and wanted to make sure I was seeing everything in this place. As far as my workouts, I like a balance between body-building, and cardio. Now more on the gym... Always crowded with small packs of teenagers milling around aimlessly, ridiculous weight-slamming amateurs, and the occasional air-fighting ninja. A lot of times I find myself trying figure out if some of the guys are here to work out, or just here hanging out. Very limited as far as weight machines are concerned, and none of the free-weights are heavier then 60 lbs., so it's hard to get creative with your workouts because of the lack of equipment. And sanitation is a serious problem here. The locker rooms are always dirty, they seem to use dirty water when they mop the floors once a week, and the second floor always smells funky. Like, B.O. and morning-breath. Disgusting. If you must use this gym, I recommend going during the hours of 11am to 3pm, or 9:30 pm to about 4am. Any other time, it's amateur-hour, so you can forget it. It is way too crowded to get a decent workout. Some times I end up leaving because it is too crowed to finish my work. read more

First visit on a Saturday afternoon to this location. Pros: 1) Great location if you are looking for parking. 2) Decent view of the river. (From the arc machines on the 2nd floor) 3) Benches in the locker room (random I know, but the one I go too doesn't have a bench situated close to every locker 4) Lots of machines (this place is packed with machines) Neutral: 1) more men than women Cons: 1) Crowded - I'd say the gym was at 85% capacity 2) The number of cleaning stations with that spray liquid for the machines seemed disproportionate and sparse compared to the number of machines...I saw no one use any cleaning solution 3) STINKY - from the moment I walked in to the 2nd floor to the moment I left. Will I return? Maybe on a less stinky, crowded day, but not likely. read more

I pay $10 a month for a convenient and stress free workout. I'm in the process of losing weight so all crazy equipment that you'd have access to at a more 'involved' gym is not necessary for me right now. This gym is open 24hrs a day so you can get your workout in whenever the hell you feel like it. I go between 10 and 1 in the morning and its great. More than enough treadmills and elliptical machines. They have a circuit training area that is usually empty at night and allows you to work your whole body. The only reason I'm giving it 4 starts instead of 5 is because there are no classes, the upstairs area is always a little musty and their is not MTV or BET on the TVs to help distract you. Aside from that if you're just getting back into working out or toning up...this is def a great place to go. Oh and staff is great! Always funny and helpful! read more

I came to Planet Fitness after taking a long break from going to any gym. I had been at a different gym, but coming back, I decided to give Planet a try. (Its cheap, so hey! :p) I guess it can work for some people, but it just didn't work for me. Why? Cause it's a little more crowded than the gyms I'm used to. And 2, most importantly, weights I most wanted to use, like the bench press, always had someone using them! They only had one or two bench press sections, and the big guys there were always hogging them. Yet, there's like 20 (I didn't really count, just there are a lot!) cardio machines. So, with this problem, along with the fact that there are a lot of people, my workouts would take longer, but I feel like they weren't as good! I also think Planet Fitness doesn't have as many weights/machines good for building size as other gyms I've been to. Thank goodness I went back to my regular gym! :D read more

This gym has gone downhill incredibly fast. Machines are always broken, there are rampant thefts within the locker rooms, and the staff does little to notify patrons of broken devices. I went in a few months ago and was electrocuted by a malfunctioning water fountain--there was no sign indicating it was broken, and no one from the Planet Fitness staff even bothered to unplug it! When I told them I had been electrocuted due to their negligence, they said that "someone" would be by to fix it at some point, and that they'd eventually put a sign up. Do yourself a tremendous favor and join another gym. Don't be persuaded by the price--you won't want to go to this gym if they paid you. read more

My buddy Steph is a fan of my reviews but wanted me to "expand my range" beyond restaurants and CVS branches. So this is my review of the local gym. The other day, I almost had a heart attack hearing that somebody spent $200 (yes TWO HUNDRED) on a NYSC/Equinox/Crunch Fitness type gym. Are you serious?! Are the treadmills diamond plated? What?! This is the opposite. No frills, $20 a month, and you come not to be seen but to actually exercise intensely. Having been to some of those other places a couple times -- usually through coupons and "freebies" -- I can say that an inordinate amount of people seem to be watching movies/TV on their phones or reading (stuff you can't do if you're really working things) and doing the 4 speed, 0 incline thing, aka a FAST WALK. At these places, you are also paying for things like a fancy shower and a smoothie station. Why on earth would you have the latter at a gym?! Way to cancel out all your work at the end. You get what you pay for with this place. I pay $19 which is cool but this place is always crowded with a bunch of kids who go to hang out or pick up chicks. You usually have to wait to use the machines if you go during the week. it's annoying to just stand there while someone is working out. You are almost rushing the person. I don't like working out like that. i like taking my time. I use to go late at night during the week with a friend. After 10pm it's usually dead. This is why I got a membership but due to my work schedule and awesome social life I started going right after work. I actually stopped going because it's so over crowded. Once my membership is up I will be paying for NYSC. I'm sure it'll be worth the money. It's also out of my way. I recently moved back to Manhattan from the Bronx so I have to take a train then a bus. That's a work out in it's self. read more

Pros: plenty of machines 24/7 televisions (can't run without visual distractions, and I NEED the audio-ok Bally's Fitness?) Cool 30 minute circuit weight machines 1st monday of the month pizza nights Cons: Cool air is not distributed evenly Locker rooms could be cleaner I researched gyms in my neighborhood: Astral Fitness, Bally's and this one.
