They spoke down to my children on multiple occasions, thinking the kids wouldn't tell me. I personally witnessed them being especially nasty toward Black children while sitting around gossiping and judging members like immature teenagers. To make it worse, some staff hid behind Spanish, assuming no one could understand their anti-Black comments. That is not just unprofessional, it's discriminatory and unacceptable. This is supposed to be a family-friendly, welcoming space--but instead, the staff create a hostile and toxic environment. If they keep treating people this way, they're going to end up with serious legal problems. I would never recommend this YMCA to anyone. And now, after I left a negative review, they've decided to try to paint my children as "troublemakers." This is nothing more than a weak attempt at damage control by staff who don't want to take responsibility for their own rude and discriminatory behavior. I also have never seen the pool being cleaned. Not another dime from me.

My favorite time here is definitely the sauna, after a hard workout. 9 out of 10 times I've used it, it's always empty. And who could beat that view from the gym?! If you wanna get a good stretch in, or have your own yoga practice, there's a great, spacious studio just opposite the gym.You can access this area from the main door or the side (by the treadmills) . This room is filled with mats and other accessories you might need. Go in on leg day? They have an elevator that can take you up or down, should you need it.

Besides the employees general housekeeping, the crowd seems to respect the space which speaks in volumes. They have classes available for those in between days. The studio space has barbell options which is new to me. I enjoyed switching from bb to db depending on my workout. Only one leg press but this leg press starts with a resistance of 167lbs! Impressive. Sauna and Child care are also available. Smoothies are an option as well. I'm totally smitten with this gym.

You're either going to either feel out of place, intimidated, overwhelmed or embrace its grittiness and appreciate the atmosphere. Daro's Extreme Fitness isn't a gym for everyone. It's gritty, it's ugly, its no frills its more for people who just want to get in there, do their work and then get the heck out. Basically, it's a gym for the "hardcore". For the people who want to work out then scram. For the bodybuilders, for the athletes, for the ones who can embrace hard work in an ugly environment. Personally, I don't have a problem with this but if you're someone who needs tanning, towel service, flat screen t.v.'s, Zumba classes, who needs to be accommodated with more "finer things", then this isn't the place for you. Equipment: This place has all the bare essential needs for your weight lifting pump. The machines are great, work well and there's several types of machines for every part of your body. Some of the dumbbells might look rusty and old but they serve their purpose as much as any brand new dumbbells, and personally, I like thay they look like that. In addition to the machines and weights, there's a little fitness bar/jungle gym in the middle of this place for all your body weight exercises. There's a boxing bag and kick boxing bag, and towards the back, there's a pro-wrestling gym. Yes, pro -wrestlers get trained here. Of course there's treadmills, bikes, and all the good stuff for your cardio needs. Facility: Okay, this place is ugly like I mentioned before. There's nothing pretty about this place at all. Its dark, dim, industrial and grimy looking. It looks like they are trying to fix the place up more or they were trying but just put down all the home improvement tools and finished halfway. Its medium sized, so you won't feel cramped and the place doesn't seem to ever get too packed even during the busiest of hours. The locker room is spacious enough to change but my gripe is the bathroom. Like I said, I don't mind the grittiness but the bathroom is ridiculous. Its very small, very cramped and looks all shoddy. The toilet and sink work but the shower has no curtain....So yeah, I don't know how to go about that. The bathroom is good just for one person, its VERY, VERY small. I don't got to the gym for the music but like almost any gym these days, get prepared to hear top 40 crap and if a lot of Dominicans are in the house, they'll pump up some of that crappy bachata-merengue mixes.This is not important to me for I block out the music but if it is to you, bring your headphones, MP3 and own music. There's also a small lounge area if you're waiting for someone, with a pool table. Staff/People: This is one of the things I really enjoyed about the gym. The people who worked here were super nice and made me feel like I was apart of a great group of friends and answered all the questions I asked with no problem. They definitely try to make you feel welcomed and comfortable, so that means a lot to me. And the people who come to this gym seem cool. Yeah, its a "real gym" but no one really tries to be the king of the hill. No ego's here. Pricing: I was able to get information on membership cost before I get to that, if you just want to come in for a day and workout, its 5 dollars, NOT BAD! And if you want to do some pro wrestling training, its 10 dollars. Here's the membership fees (the numbers are the cost). 1 month=$35, 2 months=$60, 3 months=$90, 6 months=$120. There's 2 one year memberships but its goes like this, 1=$75 dollars BUT you have to pay a dollar every time you come to workout instead of 5 dollars a day for if you were to do a walk in. 1 year=249 dollars and covers everything. In essence, if you live in the Bronx and close to the area, and just want to workout somewhere that's not expensive, if you're the type of person that goes to a gym just to workout, then this is the place for you. If you want a tan, spa, towel service, oil body rubs, flat screen t.v. pristine, shiny sparkly place, classes and many more, then this place won't do you justice. Overall, its a good gym, good atmosphere and it can more than get the job done. They worked with them on their comfort level, the instructors were very patient and it did the trick pretty quickly. I highly recommend ‍ There are many programs here at the Y that are great! The pool for lap or recreational swim, the gym and classes for working out, the after school programs, Camp Twelve Trails, music lessons, theatre, other youth and senior programs, and so much more.
