You can't beat the cost here! Sure, they don't have free weight benches, but it's $10 a month. The staff is always friendly.

Customer service was fantastic! Richard (I think that was his name), was so kind and friendly. The facility was a little worn, but it got the job done! I give this gym an "okay" rating for one reason. It seems like too many people are still allowed to come in and just sit on machines while they are scrolling. It honestly appears like some people do not have internet and that is what they go to the gym for. I also do not like when I am exercising that people stand up against the walls staring at you, with some pointing phones in a way they could be photographing you. read more

Unsure why its 24 hours if every time im there between 9-12 nobody is at the desk to access the spa. A sign is put up for you to check in and you can sit there for over 10-15 minutes and will not see an attendant to give access to spa or sell a beverage. read more

Worst gym club ever. COVID-19 you would think this company would have a way to cancel your 2year membership that was supposed to end in July of this year and not be charged again but nope!! You have go by there in person which I can not do now for other reasons. But this is ridiculous!! I will not be coming back once I can get this membership canceled. And I will not recommend anyone to join this gym club. Update: so I've been in email for 3 days to get this membership canceled. The only way to cancel is to go in person. Or send a letter in the mail. Which I did last year and they say they never canceled it. Be aware not to sign a membership contract to this gym. Really disappointed in the lack of safety here what with Covid. We decided to cancel our memberships and they make it damn near impossible without going into the gym (the only other option is sending a certified letter and hoping they work with you). So we gave in and went in today & even though there were signs on the windows, doors. and front desk saying masks are REQUIRED and if you don't have one they will provide one for you there were clients everywhere you looked working out with no mask to be seen. I understand it's not comfortable or fun to wear masks while you workout but ITS THE LAW and it's so unsafe currently to not enforce this. If you're not willing to comply you should be asked to leave. read more

After NC gyms were open, I went immediately to cancel my membership (because why would anyone go to a gym during this time?). Along with that, there has been many times where people don't wipe down equipment, and of course, paper towels are unavailable, an it's very clear that the cleaning solution is watered down (it's a different hue every day you show up) I waited for a good 10 minutes, as people were served that came in after me, and I was told to wait by one attendant because only one person was able to cancel memberships. When they were finally available, I mentioned that I wanted to cancel, told them my information, and then was told I was, "good to go." The next month, I was charged yet again for my membership, and upon calling, they could then magically cancel my membership, but couldn't refund my money. If Planet Fitness can't cancel my membership, do you really believe they're going to do enough to keep you from getting sick? read more

I just moved to Durham and had to transfer my membership home base from Cary to Durham. This planet fitness is literally a 5-minute drive from my apartment. It's located right beside a mall. There is plenty of parking space so it's never a problem. All of the equipment is fresh and new. As for the gym, it's a good amount of space but I feel like all of the machines are so close to one another. It's like cramming everything together in a tight space. I usually go around the 8-10 p.m. hours which is not bad. The gym is active but it's not overly packed. The lighting is super bright which is awesome. It enhances the look and feel of the gym. Most importantly, the people are kind here. I love the diversity that this gym brings! read more

This is the largest PF location I have ever been to! Thank God it's so large because this location does get super crowded and there is no shortage of equipment and machines. There aren't coat hooks which is odd. But the locker room is very clean and there is every machine and section as any PF location. If this is your first time. Takes the time to review the layout BC again this location is huge. My favorite thing is that each treadmill has its own TV! I was told this location is small, but I am impressed with the amount of machines. I've never had to wait for anything I wanted to try. I do wish there was a larger area to stretch, but finding space in a corner with a yoga mat hasn't been a problem. Yes, the machines are close together and yes, this location gets crowded, but I never feel like my personal space is compromised. Each tread mill has its own tv. All the interactions I've had with staff have been friendly & positive. There are a few at the desk who seem a little stand-offish, but never rude. The equipment & public areas are always clean - every time I've been in, a staff person is cleaning something. I really appreciate that effort. I've been to some places where that is not the case & it grosses me out. The one improvement that would make this 5 stars is that when I joined, benefits of membership weren't fully explained. I didn't receive a tour of facility. I've had to just figure stuff out on my own. Staff is helpful when I ask questions, but I wish when I joined, there would've been more explanation. read more

I cancelled my membership at Planet Fitness bc I moved away from this location and it was too far for me to commute. I came in and signed a cancellation form and was done with it. Fast forward two years, I looked at a credit card a rarely us and noticed I was still being charged monthly by Planet Fitness. I called and spoke to a general manager who even saw my cancellation form on file and STILL will not issue me a refund. Apparently when I signed my cancellation form, I also signed a reinstatement form which is 100% B.S. Gym is fine...Management is horrible. Finally there are planet fitnesses is in Durham! You can't beat the price with Planet Fitness. I have the black card as I wanted access to both Durham planet fitnesses and of the two, this planet fitness is the not so great one in my opinion. It's small and crowded. Machines are so close together and packed in, and there is less equipment. This makes it difficult to use popular machines such as the Smith machine and even spots on the cable towers when I use the gym around 7pm. What makes it worse are the personal trainers who do not work for planet fitness that use this gym for training clients. I see at least two that come in daily with a group of people and take up machines for very long periods of time doing circuit training with their workout group. This is against planet fitness' policy, but never enforced here. Only planet fitness personal trainers are supposed to use the gym for training clients and classes. I would not care but when groups of people use machines and weights for extended periods of time during peak hours, it's annoying . This may happen at the other planet fitness but I've never seen it and the gym is much bigger. read more

I had the worst experience today at this location. I ask the manager on duty, I believe his name is James if there was a 24 hr wait to tan and he said yes there was that it was a North Carolina law. When I told him there wasn't a law he proceeded to get rude and loud with me. The 2 things that bother me about this situation is 1. I don't appreciate being lied to. There is NO 24 hr wait law to tan in North Carolina. There was but that was 3 years ago. I know this because I just recently worked at a tanning salon in North Carolina right in Durham as well. The other issue with this situation is I feel completely embarrassed by how I was treated in front of employees and other patrons. It gives me social anxiety and will have a hard time going back after I was completely disrespected. read more

I've been a member for a couple of months and have always had a very pleasant experience. The staff are super nice and, at least in the early morning, it is not that crowded. I've never felt unsafe at all. The gym itself is super clean and the equipment is all in great shape. The only downside I've seen is that the barbells are all Smith machines but I think that's true at all Planet Fitness locations. read more

They won't reply to the three emails I've sent (even though the automated message says to send them one), and they keep charging my card even though I've sent my cancellation request IN WRITING!!!!! My gym said they were temporarily closing due to covid and that billing would temporarily be suspended. The location then permanently closed and the company then resumed billing my account for months without providing an alternative. The representative I spoke to said emails were sent out months ago informing customers of a change but I never received one. The representative also said planet fitness would not reimburse me for the money they have basically stolen from me in this time. Total disregard for keeping their customers informed, they are only concerned with continuing to take your money when you can't actually use their facilities. At this point I will never use planet fitness again and will actively tell anyone considering them to stay away. read more

I have been going to the Northgate location since they opened about 5 years ago. I go on my lunch hour several days a week. I generally use the workout machines. The machine seat covers have become worn and cracked. In the past month or so it has become crowded, noisy and unpleasant. Several patrons think its ok to have phone and video chats while they're in the work out areas. Groups of people now use the weight areas to hang out. Today was the worst experience I have had at any Planet Fitness location. I am an older single female. I have never had any concern over being hit on nor have I received unwelcome approaches. I dress appropriately, finish my workout and move on. I was working on one set of machines when I noticed a loud group of men in the weight area. I finished my core workout and moved to the leg machines. Three of them stood near me while I was doing my reps. IT was very intimidating. Once I finished I retrieved a new paper towel to clean my machine. One of them had the nerve to to try and talk to me. I felt very unsafe. They were not the same race as myself. I glanced at another lady nearby that was working out. She looked suprised that they were bothering me. I gave her a look to indicate I did not initiate it. I went to the room with the 360, leg and stretching areas are. They didn't follow me into the room but they stayed across from the leg machine I went to work on. They continued to talk and laugh loudly. I continued to ignore them and they finally moved on. Thankfully I couldn't hear them because of my headphones. I was actually concerned they would still be around in the parking lot when I left so I rushed out quickly. Sadly, it looks like this Planet Fitness needs a security team inside their gym. I would not return to this location unless I had a male protector. I am trying to hard to lose weight. It is important that I workout at lunch and after work. If I cannot workout safely at Planet Fitness it is time that I change to a gym that offers a safe Durham location as well as a location near my hometown. read more

Planet Fitness in Durham, NC used to be a really great place to go for my workouts. After Covid and their reopening, they have gone so far down hill. I have had multiple contact with corporate HQ, area manager and in house management. Corporate would only tell me to contact the owner/manager...and if I was unhappy that they were not enforcing the mask mandate, then I could put MY membership on hold. The In-house manager stated that he has to abide by the owner/manager's edict. His hands were tied...but i could put MY membership on hold. The owner stated that he would not enforce the mask mandate. Stated that mandates were not laws and that he would be putting people on the "honor" system and would not ask nor exclude anyone who walked through the door without a mask. All signs regarding the mandate were either taken down or sparsley positioned in the gym and all protective measurements for social distancing and Covid protection were discontinued. I did canel my membership. No one cared and nothing changed and Matt, the manager, was unapologetic nor concerned about my leaving. I will never go back there again. read more

What happened to the Wi-Fi??? The most important service that gets me through cardio. I was able to stream my shows to get me through the workouts, but no longer :( I have been a member of the Guess Rd. Northgate PF before they opened their doors. Until now, I was happy with the level of service I was receiving. At the start of the New Year I noticed the Wi-Fi wasn't working. I called and talked to management and I was told that they fixed the problem. Unfortunately, that is untrue. They changed services and are the only PF in North Carolina that doesn't have reliable Wi-Fi. I pay my Black Card membership every month and expect to receive the same level of service that I received from day one. That has unfortunately gone by the wayside. read more
