Beware of annual fee!!! I signed up and after two months decided to cancel. Went into establishment to cancel and they told me the annual fee had been also charged along with monthly fee and even though it was in the same month they could and would not refund it. I told them I was never told about the annual fee and that did not matter. No refunds. The annual fee comes two months after joining which is pretty sneaky. Just be aware. I canceled my membership today. My wife and I have been members of this gym for a little over 2 years and have thoroughly enjoyed our experience, we have been visiting on nearly a daily basis. The one star review is solely because of the locations manager, Kevin. The rest of the staff is awesome, the place has always been clean and in good working order. This morning, my wife was working out on a treadmill and was asked by a staff member to remove her jacket from the treadmill--this never happened before today. She was in a discussion with another staff member regarding the policy and was approached by Kevin, who told her to leave as she was banned from the location due to a policy violation. He would not discuss the matter with her further. I called and made an inquiry and he would not discuss the matter with me over the phone--I am paying the membership fee and I received the cancelation notice on my email, my wife's name is on her membership. I drove to the location to discuss the situation with Kevin, and after waiting for nearly an hour for him, he stated that she was banned because she was "screaming at his employees". When I asked to set a meeting with him and his boss to discuss the ban--or to even see evidence of the harassment, he said that it was not possible since I was not directly involved. When I inquired about her setting a meeting with him and his boss to discuss the ban, he stated that he will call the police if she comes to the location again. Apparently there is no recourse if there is a dispute with a staff member. When I asked if i could schedule a meeting with him and his boss, I was asked to leave the premises as well. I hope this review serves as a caution to anyone who may be on the fence about joining this gym, the "judgement free" policy only applies to members and not staff. read more

Calling the Cops Seems to be the Trend I also had a horrible interaction with an employee named Adam at the Howell, Mi Planet Fitness. I am not a member; I have friends who are members and I've never joined a gym before. I was there for the two previous days trying it out as a guest. The guest pass was not working, so they entered my phone number to sign me in. I wasn't exactly sure how things work. This morning, I asked him if we can enter my number as my friends are enroute, to which I was told, "No, you have to wait for them". I could totally understand that. As I am waiting for my friends to arrive, I decided to walk around to look at the equipment to see what this gym has to offer to decide whether or not I'll be joining. About halfway through my walk, Adam approaches me and tells me in a very curt voice, "you can't be on the floor... you're not a member and we don't allow backpacks!", (I had a very small sling bag). No explanation from him, but that's okay, that's fine, I can respect rules. At this point, I assume Adam is having a bad day, people are allowed to have a bad day. We are all human. He walked back to the desk and got on his phone. I approached him and asked him if we're not allowed to have backpacks and this is considered a backpack? (showing my sling bag), and he said, "Yes!" (in a bothered irritated tone). I asked, "where do we put our stuff?" He said, "in the lockers". Not providing any additional information, and got back on his phone. I walked out and put my stuff in my vehicle and I came back inside. I was looking for signs or any kind of literature about the do's and don'ts of the gym to which I couldn't find any. To be fair, I have not gone to the website and looked at it in detail. I did take a membership sheet to see the difference between memberships but that's about the extent of my research. One of my friends had arrived, and I asked, "okay, can we go ahead and put my number in there?", and he said "No." I asked why not & he responded condescendingly, "your friend's not a black card member". I'm figuring out how this works on the fly. I can't work out today, no problem. I had 3 interactions with him, no customer service, just curt and less than welcoming, like I am an inconvenience. I think to myself, "I just want to let him know it has not been the best experience for someone who wants to possibly join". I approach the desk and said, "hey, can I just tell you as a possible future client......" He raises his voice and interrupts me. "I don't want to hear it, call the manager!" and he slammed down a business card on the counter. I was in shock. My initial reaction was flicking the card back to him and asking him "Are you really just dismissing me?" I didn't even finish that sentence and he said again in a raised voice "I don't care, call the manager!" I was in disbelief. I began to walk out and as I approached the doors I thought "I need to call the manager; this is not ok." I went back inside to grab a business card and as I walked in, he yells "You get out of here!" I said, "I'm grabbing a business card for the manager." He talks over me again, "you get out of here before I call the cops!" I asked him, "for what? For getting a business card?" He responds with, "I will call the cops!" So I took the business card and said "I'll be giving Kevin a call." I left without incident. It is single-handedly the rudest interaction I've ever had with a business. After reading the reviews on here about Kevin, the manager, I'm not very optimistic that anything will come from this as he seems to be the one that also threatened people with calling the cops for them asking for a refund. I am almost 50, a veteran, and the type of person who always gives the benefit of the doubt initially. Treat people the way you want to be treated. Today was unacceptable. read more

I'm 14 and old enough to go here however since I'm short they assumed that I need an adult with me. I told the employees that I'm old enough to be here and that I've been here probably like 50+ times, and I'm more athletic and weight trained more than anyone the, but they told me to get the fuck out and that I'm not old enough to workout. So in conclusion , this place has normal equipment, but rude workers. read more

I have been going to this gym location for two years now when I first started going, it was so clean and employees were very nice. As time has went on especially the past two months you have declined dramatically. The women's bathroom has not been cleaned, and I don't know how long floors have not been mopped in the women's bathroom . Tanning bed floors are disgusting. The new employees stand behind the counter and talk and do nothing and I am usually there for an hour and a half. Twice now I've been shorted on my time for tanning because the young kids that are being hired are not paying attention. I know that you have new employees and I understand that you need to train them but if they want to stand around and talk, then you need to get rid of them if this continues me and my family that all have black cards are going to be leaving and going to a different gym. Smile and be friendly!!! These kids need to quit congregating so much and actually talk to their customers. I have yet to be asked "how are you?" or told "have a nice day". It's not a positive atmosphere you feel. You Definitely don't need 4-5 people holding up the desk. Speaking of which, put the scanner on the counter so people can check themselves in. I don't like having to wait for someone to put their conversation on hold, turn around, and look at me like I'm annoying them just to scan my card. As for equipment, the only thing I would request is Dumbbells that go up to at least 100lbs. A free style bench would be nice as well. The locker rooms are nice and the tanning booths are great. Haven't tried the massage beds yet. Promote healthy drinks as well. I saw a sign that said "50% off drinks for black card members" and I didn't even realize they sold drinks. I finally saw the little drink cooler by the check in counter. This is my 3rd PF I've been a part of and its my least favorite. I would blame it on the old saying "You get what you pay for" but the other PF's I was apart of didn't make me feel unimportant and customers shouldn't have to pay for common courtesy. read more

Wow. I saw Daniels review and the same thing happened to me with this manager Kevin. I too have been going there for two years. I got a little upset when the guy at the counter was ignoring me and turned his back to talk to a friend that was eating the free candy. I said I need to use the massage chair. Yes a little loud and frustrated but no profanity. Just a little agitated. I ask for a manager and this clown Kevin kicks me out and tells me he's gonna call the police. Hell I even tried to apologize and he still would not hear my side. This dude has issues. I am a pillar of this community and have signed up quite a few people. I actually deal with people all the time that are upset and know how to de escalate which is what a manager should know how to do. This guy is not a manager he is s jerk. Thanks Daniel H. I never usually complain but this location drives me nuts and it's my home location I got to any other PF I can. Their tanning beds are awful! Always dirty rooms most of them the buttons don't work it drives me nuts! This is probably the only location I've been to where the tanning beds are this bad. And I've been to about 5 locations! The app says this gym is 24/7 when it is not. They close on Saturday and Sunday nights. Several pieces of equipment have torn or tattered cushions on them. There is never less than five pieces of equipment "out of order". In the men's room there has been a urinal out of order for weeks. There seems to be a general lack of preventative maintenance through including the air filtration system as black dust build up is prevalent around most ducts and there is a think layer of dust over ceiling cross beams. This location lacks equipment other locations have. Planet Fitness of Howell is the only show in town now that the others closed and they know it. read more

I know these places are frowned upon by gym nerds but they fill a niche and do it well. The place is very clean and comfortable. I'm a bit amused by a gym that serves pizza, bagels and tootsie rolls but and it's odd that a place that calls itself a judgement free zone has a huge sign on the wall describing "lunks". My only issues have to do with how busy the place can be and the staff's unwillingness to enforce the rules. I know they can't do anything about a crowded gym but they should do a better job keeping people from sitting on workout machines socializing and/or talking on their cell phones. I don't mind waiting for a machine if someone is using but it is annoying when someone sits on a machine for 5-10 minutes clicking around on their phone. read more

Super clean. Plenty of equipment. People that work there are friendly. Much cleaner, nicer and less $ than Golds in Howell($400 yr.) Can't beat $20 a month for PF Black card. Black Card: Work out at any PF in U.S., free massage beds/chairs, free tan, discount on Gatorade etc. Can't stress the clean part. See employees cleaning all the time. The trainer made me feel at home. Showed me the set up, asked about my Monroe planet fitness, and I appreciated it. They keep it clean with one worker wearing a ghost busters looking vacuum on his back and the others stocking and wiping. This one is a little smaller with more open rooms instead of like Monroe with bigger separators. I'd recommend this planet fitness. Nice Gym, pretty clean and lots of equipment to use but the staff...well... Most of the time I get ignored by the staff when I ask a question and I have to repeat myself or ask louder even though they have 5 people behind the counter all taking together. I guess as a Black Card member, I'm not important enough. Every time I come in, there is at least 5 people behind the counter all talking together with their backs turned to the customers, like what? What type of customer service is that. Even the manager, Alex, has ignored my requests when I asked to talk to her about my account information. I guess you get what you pay for but maybe they shouldn't just hire high schoolers who don't care about their jobs. read more

The fans are just for show, so don't even consider going on the weekends when they're packed. Most of the "trainers" there just sit at the counter looking bored out of their minds, there are a select few that you can always tell are going above and beyond to actually do the job they're being paid for. On more than one occasion I've felt berated by the staff, and I honestly think they should just fire 50% of the people who work there and try again to find more enthusiastic people who actually care. If you're overweight, this gym is for you, if you take the time to actually come and work out and "get your gains" you'll lose your weight in no time, and for a fraction of the price, there isn't a whole lot of judgement, towards either really in shape people or really out of shape people, most people are just there to work out, I don't ever have to be self-conscious and that feels good. The tanning is ALRIGHT, it's not the same as having a tanning membership at a tanning place, but if you buy the right lotions and moisturizers, you can probably make the best out of it and get a decent glow, it's great for beginners, but you'll probably want to invest in an actual membership at a tanning salon after you get your base tan. In conclusion, I'd say it's an alright mediocre good ENOUGH gym, and can be VERY beneficial to those that actually want to lose weight and get in shape, or even maintain and STAY in shape, but the kids they have working there are a pain in the ass. read more
