Update: Been coming for quite some time on a regular basis. The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful, and we really like Genesis. I don't like when i'm on a treadmill that a worker has to clean a machine right next to me (dust and cleaning chemicals). I also think the red-light booth should be cleaned immediately after someone exits, as i've gone in as soon as someone is done several times w/o anyone saying wait let me wipe it down. read more

Very frustrating w/ the status of the AC !! It has not been working efficiently for way too long and it's too hot and uncomfortable in there. Totally unacceptable ! I've reached out to several people at the front desk, i've called week to week asking if the AC is going to be "fully functional and fixed". I like PF a lot, basically this is my only complaint. The front desk staff should be addressing this issue when asked, instead i was told the City of Melb was out here and said the temperature is fine. I had trouble when I joined this gym with some sort of fee they charged me. I called them last week because I wanted to cancel. I was told I had to come in to cancel. Since I don't have a car during the week, I was unable to get there until Sunday. Now I've been charged for an entire month today, the day after cancellation. This updated review is way long overdue. As of the publication of this review, it has been at least five months since the Apollo Boulevard location has finished its renovations. Generally, hearing about renovations would bring expectations of improvements. Yes it did bring said improvements but there were also disappointments that sadly lowered the overall rating. For starters, the overall improvements added two four changes. The first is the overall visual look of the gym. Before, there was an overuse of purple and yellow, all on outdated walls and such. This time, the look is more minimalist that looks both simple and clean. The primary color of light grey works well with the purple and yellow highlights. This also includes changes in the area. The second replacing the outdated workout equipment with newer equipment along with adding more workout stations. Along with updated versions of workout machines, there are new machines added. The only issue I have is only having one torso twist machine and one leg kickback machine. Third improvement is the adding of a Black Card spa area which includes a loft and television set. It is nice and all and provides a more comfortable resting experience than sitting in the front lobby area. Finally, they added a section for those who like crossfit. Ergo, pull-up bars and handles, rope exercises, kettle bells, and the like. These improvements are all seen in the US-1 location, but they are not all of them. Black Card members have access to free haircuts known as the "Black Card Cuts." This could have been implemented in the Apollo Boulevard location in the loft area of the Black Card Spa. Seriously, the loft is damn near worthless as nobody uses it (except for the big bosses who sleeps there every now and then). Secondly, the internet was dramatically worse compared to before the renovation. And a little added detail, the Planet Fitness app has substantially gotten worse too. The server it uses has trouble recording workout results thus making it worthless. In the end, I will keep going to Planet Fitness. However, if I end up moving closer to Rockledge where the US-1 location is, I have no loyalty. I will dump the Apollo Boulevard location like a bad habit or a girlfriend I don't care about anymore for the one that is way better. #YouHadYourChance read more

Plenty of training help if you want it and use their schedule. Clean and plenty of variety! Most economical.

I really like this one as I'm into exercise & strength, not bodybuilding. Nice that it is never too crowded. Medicine ball with trampoline, Bosu ball (per my physical therapist) are hard to find and especially appreciated. The icing was assistant manager Ms S changing my membership at the counter in about two minutes flat, and getting it right the first time. Could not do this on the web; she is pretty awesome. read more

It's clean mostly and the staff is friendly. Only wish is that they had more than 3 stair climbers. Just your normal gym where you can get a good workout. Doesn't leave much to be desired. Not a black card member so can't comment on that extra stuff. read more

Definately a fan of this location. Staff were super nice. Other people working out were super cool. The machines and equipment were clean and updated. The layout is probably one of my favorite layouts of all the PF's I have been too. Wish I lived closer to this one! O well. I guess the adage, "you get what you pay for" should explain my issues with this $10 gym; but the problem is I often have felt I don't even get that much. While there are plenty of elliptical trainers and treadmills there is much to be desired when it comes to free weights. And while Planet Fitness prides themselves on their "Lunk Alarm" what they really need is the Bro Police to stop guys from using the one squat rack in the entire gym for overhead barbell presses. All in all, I am just riding out my contract and waiting until the day I can go join a real gym. read more

I have been a member for over two years here and the gym is well worth the $10 a month. You cannot and will not beat the value here. The staff is very attentive and friendly. The locker rooms are clean as is the gym overall. My problem with this gym is the machines. Too many worthless machines on hand and not enough good ones. Example: There are two smith machines and one free weight rack. The smith machine can be very bad on your knees when performing squats on them. They should add another free weight rack and a power squat machine as working a leg routine here is very lacking. I am not sure if PF still has free pizza and bagels on some days but they need to get rid of that nonsense and put the money into better machines. If you come to this gym expecting to work out in a small class environment with an instructor then this is not the gym for you. They do have personal trainers for an extra fee. This gym is very good and gets 3.5 stars in my opinion overall. Just the leg workout machines are detrimental to your knees so expect to do alternative exercises with free weights for them as I do. For my style of working out I recommend this gym. read more

I've worked out any many gyms and Melbourne FL doesn't have that much to offer for gyms. We are missing the big ones like 24 HR fittness, Gold's, and LA Fitness. Although, this is a good gym for the Melbourne FL area. The price is right at $10 bucks per month too. The size of the gym is good with new equipment and tanning beds. The free weights are nice along with the cardio equipment. This place has most of the equipment I need for my workouts. I'm still a member after 2 years, if that says anything. read more

I was screwed over in a catch 22 by having to pay $41 for an annual membership fee because I couldn't cancel my membership within a year without paying a $58 fee. How messed up is that? I wouldn't waste my money on Planet Fitness, even if it is $10 a month. I tried going to other Planet Fitness locations with my Black Card membership, and you can only go 10 times a month to a different location. And the unlimited massage chairs can only be had for 10 minutes at a time. So I figured I'd give the corporate office a call and voice my feelings about these practices. Best gym for your money. I do miss having a pool but for the $20 a month black card fee with unlimited massage chair use its well worthy the money. (2 chairs and 2 Aqua beds) This location is consistently busy but never so much that you have to wait for equipment to free up. Lots of parking too. read more

This is one of the few PF locations with free weight barbells, bench and squat racks. The lunk alarm does not go off here, unlike at other PF locations. But the equipment has seen better days. The barbells need to be wd-40'd, as loading plates is next to impossible. Newer and more updated equipment would improve this place by a longshot. Also, the staff was pretty aloof. read more

RACISM IS REAL! Sorry for a long post but i got to express it. This is my first time signing up for a membership in Planet Fitness. Mainly bcs of the distance, it is closer to my job & home. However, the experience i had for 2 weeks being here was unbelievable. Just because the membership is cheap doesn't mean they should lower their standard. I hate the curtain shower it is so small & old. When i first step in i was expecting a tour around but she just make a card and take my picture. Yesterday at 7:30 PM. There is an elder couple (Around their 50 s) in the 30 mins workout room. The moment i step in, his wife was giving me an attitude. If you familiar with the 30 min workout rules, we have to follow the circuit which i did. Out of honesty i may be a little over a min on a workout tools but they make it seem like i was an hour on each tools. They did not wipe their nasty sweat after using the tools. They said they use their sweaty handkerchief to wipe it. i have to clean it each time i want to use. Then on the last tools i use, his wife came to me and said " are you done? it's my turn". All of the sudden i get an attitude from someone i never know/seen in my entire life. She told her husband and he came to me and said you shouldn't be on the tools for more than a min defending his wife while I was trying to say it will be nice if she ask me in more of respectful manner. She then said i will complaint and that i wont be allow in the gym anymore. That i should not listen to music while working out. Her husband then said " THERE IS A SIGN AND RULES WRITTEN IN ENGLISH , GO AND READ IT". That is so racist, and he said it loud & everybody can hear it. And it's just so embarrassing . If this is not racism, He should have said "there is a rules and sign , go and read it and why did he has to say that way? So the worker came , she said her manager step out and it seems to me that she is choosing side as she agree to what that couple said . That is unfair, i thought it shouldn't be no judgement zone in planet fitness? I understand that she was caught up in the moment but i think she should address the situation better. Take us to the "close" place to settle the issue . Everyone is watching and they don't even want to know our business. AND IT IS ULTIMATE EMBARRASSMENT WHEN HE LITERALLY BE LITTLE ME IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. Since the worker did not do anything besides taking notes, i decided to call a police. Both couple left. So then manager step in and he came to me making sure i am ok.He is very nice person. I address the issue & i admit my mistakes. He is very understanding & respectful . He told me that his GM, will give me a call to hear from my side. The reason why i did not want to write a review yesterday because he is very understanding. Next morning i let the GM know about the situation but he cut me off few times. He said he saw all the notes. He was just like "ok ok but on your part, you need to do this and this". I mean dude, you are a GM, be more understanding. Is that how you speak to your customer?And if you read the notes, you should know that i admit that i am over a min on the tools and you does not have to emphasis my mistakes over and over by phone. You should give that GM title to your manager. It is ashamed that he knows how to do your job better than you. When i address about that racism issue the GM said "that couple is not being racist they are being irritated" I wish the call was recorded. It was unbelievable that they are choosing side once again and make me feel like i am not worth it there. Is it because i'm new and sign up for a cheaper plan i got all of this ridiculous experience ? I honesty frustrated, i let my boyfriend spoke to GM and when my boyfriend address the racism issue again, he laugh at him. He said he will waive a cancellation fees for me. I would re-think signing up here. The manager Genesis is so unprofessional. I have been out on medical leave due to a spinal stabilization surgery. I put my account on a temporary hold, yet to find out I was bill. I called and spoke with her, she stated well we have been Sending you E-Mails? I'm sorry I haven't got an email form you. First and foremost she had the wrong email clearly a Clerical error. I explain to her that this happens to me all the time and people alway put my last name In thinking that's it. Very common mistake I receive a lot. She stated that I wrote it that way and she is sorry that I wrote it wrong. Hold up I don't write it wrong. I asked her politely to pull all the paperwork with my signatures to prove that I did not write this wrong and I would be in to talk to them. When I went to the gym everything was electronic so yes it had my signature but they had my wrong address in wrong email I advised her that I never wrote this down nor did your employees confirm with me or your system that I was signing the correct information. She gave me a very nonchalant attitude and said well I talk to my corporate manager and there's nothing I can do. I tried to explain to her again that the email that they have is wrong it's a common mistake but I don't think that I should be paying for an error on your guys his behalf. At this point the money that you guys charged me is a relevant it's the fact that you accused me of lying. Upon entering there she let me look at the information in the computer but again showing her that all my information was incorrect. She was unwilling to work with me and yet screaming it was my fault. I am your customer and I'm paying you money every month all the information you had pertaining to me was wrong it's not my fault that when we sign our consent electronically that we are not available to verify our information this would be a huge help in the situation. I don't like being accused of being a liar and for her to tell me that this is my fault is absolutely unacceptable. This is a clerical error and it happens frequently I understand that but the willingness of her not trying to help me is very disheartening. She refused to give me any numbers to call and told me to go to her website but yet there was no way of emailing or contacting anybody. It's such a sickening situation that as a manager you please blame on your customer instead of correct in your system and doing the right thing. Someone in her position does not need to be a manager she needs to be more empathetic to employee errors and not call paying customers liars. read more

As a member, I do not feel out of place inside this gym. The staff/members seem nice and are happy to lend a spot when needed. Though not geared toward intense weight training or cardio classes, this gym will satisfy the average person, as they will find this gym to be more than accommodating in terms of equipment and services offered. No pool, however. Late PM/early AM hours seem to be the least crowded. Buddies get in free with your $20 premium membership, but a regular membership is only $10 monthly, so you do the math. read more

I have heard many horror stories about how people are treated at Planet Fitness locations, but I never thought it would happen to me. Well, it did. I became a member of Planet Fitness located at 840 Apollo Drive, Melbourne, FL in May 2009. Since March 2010 I have brought up some maintenance issues to the gym staff. The light bulbs throughout the gym kept going out one by one over the last couple on months, until only about 50% of the lights were still functioning in May 2010. During the same period, the AC was broken and lots of members were unhappy about the situation. The gym felt like a semi dark green house, not an environment conductive to working out. I complained almost weekly to the front desk and the answer I would receive was that there was a maintenance guy who was supposed to take care of the burned out light bulbs and the AC, but nobody knew when he was going to be around. There were some other problems as well, such as the soap in the restrooms running out, and a case of what I believe is false advertising. In the contract and on the website they claim that the black card members can buy drinks from the cooler at half price. However, when I went to the gym the sticker on the cooler said that only a few of those drinks, mainly Gatorade and water were qualifying for the half off discount. Since that was not stated in the contract or on their website I see this as false advertising. After several weeks, the issues were still not corrected so I complained directly on their website, and from what I know copies of the complaints made on their website are sent to the owner and to the Planet Fitness Main Office. Days later, on June 11, 2010 when I went to the gym, the manager Erica Russo rudely informed me that I was no longer welcome in the gym and I had to leave the premises, due to my complaints about the gym. I was beyond shocked to see that instead of apologizing for the inconvenience and fixing the broken lights, AC and so on, they just cancelled my membership. Unbelievable and deeply shocking, I have never been treated like this although I have worked out at many gyms, such as Las Vegas Athletic Club, LA Fitness, World Gym, 24 Hour Fitness, Bally's, Gold's Gym and others. I have heard before that Planet Fitness stuff is generally rude and abusive, they don't try to fix the issues at the gym and they abusively just cancel the memberships of those daring to complain. From my experience, this negative perception of Planet Fitness is real. It is shameful that Planet Fitness is allowed to do this to people. In am still in shock and disbelief that an American business is which is so customer unfriendly is allowed to function. It feels like Twilight Zone. read more

I've been a "Blackcard" member for a year now and find the membership to Planet Fitness a awesome experience. I enjoy the Universal equipment, the 30 minute workout zone and the free weight section. The staff is excellent and always prepared to answer your questions. The daily schedule to free training is excellent. If you have never used free weights and have been self conscience with other gyms, because of your inexperience, the training staff will put your anxious moments at ease. It doesn't talk very long for you to become comfortable with using the free weights or any of the other equipment available to you.I like the fact that the gym has a "no judgement policy". This is a place for people who want to develop a more comfortable body weight to consider. The gym has wonderful perks for Blackcard members, Tanning booths, Red light therapy, and hydro-massagde beds. Red light technology was developed by NASA 40 yrs ago to help Astronauts to heal quicker and is used to day for enhanced skin improvement. My Blackcard membership allows me to bring a friend to the gym all the time and in any location. I have complete use of any Planet Fitness Gym across the USA. There are no problems checking in at any of the Gyms in Brevard County, and I have been to most of them. Basic membership starts at just $10.00 a month and the Blackcard membership is $21.95 a month. When I started my membership I was 45 lbs. over weight. I now am at my correct Body Mass Index. Remember, exercise alone is not enough to get rid of the unwanted weight. Diet is very important also. I highly recommend Planet Fitness to anyone who wants to get rid of the extra pounds and for those who just want to tone up and be fit. read more
