Planet Fitness loves to brag about being a "Judgment Free Zone," but apparently that only applies if you think exactly the way they want you to. Walked in to work out and noticed Fox News wasn't on any of their many TVs. When asked, staff flat-out said they're "not allowed" to put it on. So let me get this straight, dozens of televisions, nonstop sports, random reality nonsense, and selectively approved news channels, but one mainstream news network is banned? That's not "judgment free," that's controlled and biased. I'm here to lift weights, not be quietly told what viewpoints are acceptable. If Planet Fitness wants to act like a politically filtered bubble instead of a gym, they should be honest about it. Plenty of other gyms manage to treat adults like adults and let them choose what they watch. Do better or at least stop pretending this place is neutral! So...my husband and I as well as our children and their families will no longer be members. read more

Terrible, non-existent customer service! I was charged for my monthly fees and because of a glitch (to no fault of mine) the charge did. It go through and I was charged numerous late fees. When I tried to address it with the manager (who could care less about customers and never followed up or called me back) he never responded and was avoiding my calls. The is supposedly a district manager, who was also absentia and never followed up on my request to get the late fees waived. So, they stole charged me the two late fees (on a $15 charge) as they must really need the money and showed me they could care less about the customer once they get you to sign up. I have never dealt with such a horribly managed establishment. read more

I am very disappointed in my visit of this gym. It has disappointed me because I was going to work out with a friend, until I was told a waiver was to be signed by my guardians. I was going to just have them sign it on paper, but it was only digital and my handicapped mother has issues with digital things already, and she would have to go in person. I was going to just sit there as my companion was working out, but I was kicked out by a man with a green sludge drink who was very rude and unapologetic. I would hope I never have to go here ever again. read more

Decent place, and I noticed that the change rooms are being refurbished, woo-hoo! Right now the men's and women's rooms are swapped in location (I found that odd, but oh well). They have nice wooden lockers in the men's, and it's newly tiled, very modern! On the other hand, the technology on the treadmills need an overhaul, most of them didn't have working audio. I asked the guy working there, and he said to try the treadmills with the silver TVs, some of those worked, some didn't--very frustrating! They also have a TV channel sign, but it doesn't match the channels on the TVs. Other than that, the equipment in this place is in good working order. I do like the two big ass fans above the the treadmills, those really cool you down! There is lots of equipment in here, and I like the areas where you can do a mini workout, like for your abs. It's nice to see they are improving things here, such as the change rooms, I just hope the TVs on the treadmills are next! read more

I've been going to the Victor Planet fitness on and off for three years. Until recently my employer has been paying for it but they recently changed that policy. I liked the gym well enough that I decided to pay for my own membership. One of the requirements was that they bill my checking account instead of a credit card but you could also have a credit card attached to the account, which I did. They correctly bill my checking account for the annual fee $49 and $10 for the monthly fee then I noticed a $15 charge for a late fee. I was told that account was not available or had insufficient funds both of which were not true because they had already billed the account $59. They also had access to the credit card as well. Despite my complaints they were unwilling to provide a refund for the fees. I decided to end my membership and was told that I needed to pay an addition $20 fee for ending my membership. I talked them down to $10. While I can afford the $25, it's clear to me that their billing practices are unethical and they are unwilling to correct them. read more

After a few months of membership I am very happy and highly recommend Planet fitness. Luke the trainer is knowledgeable and always available for consultations; he is personable and not the typical jock jerk trainer. The girls at the front desk particularly the two blonds (sorry don't know their names) are are the best recognizing me as a regular and know my routine and anticipate my use of the equipment. Staff and members are very good at sanitizing; occasionally there is a member that doesn't wipe down a machine but that is rare. read more

The epitome of a 10 dollar gym. The outstanding variety gym bros and people leaving their house just to text in a piece of gym equipment. If you go during any somewhat busy hour don't expect to get the piece of equipment you want, or if you want to wait for the person to be done just know they may take 15 minutes typing a novel on their phone completely oblivious to the fact they are interrupting someone else's gym rhythm. Waited 20 minutes today for a smith machine but the same 4 considerate people were holding them hostage. 1 man did 3 total lifts in 20 minutes but he did have time to flex in the mirror for those huge gains he just got through osmosis from sitting their on his phone. 2 guys were actually doing multiple different workouts so they get a pass. The last guy was too busy trying to get the girls stretching near by to notice he was lifting " heavy" weights. Because that is what's going to make them fall for you. 20 minutes and still no success ? Maybe time to give up bud. I digress, if there was a better option I would go there, literally any option at all. But it is 10 bucks and It's quite clean. I relented and joined PF 2 weeks ago. The location (drive past Victor location on my way to work) and the price ($10 to join/$10 a month) was enough for me to take a look. Even though I have a home gym, sweating with strangers between jobs makes a lot more sense somehow. Anyhow, I was pleasantly surprised! The high ceilings and wall of windows make the space feel open, light. The locker room (women's) looks like a spa with stone walls and dark wood lockers. Leave your lock at home, they have them built in. VERY clean. It's fairly quiet when I work out mid-day M-F. I like that they have the equipment set up into zones. Luckily, I won't be needing more than a 75lb dumbbell and I NEED those Smith machines! The treadmills all have TV's and iPod/iPhone hookups. I'm not sure they sinc to Polar HRM's but seem to. Also, the staff is VERY friendly- no phony "Hey! How ya doin!" with dead eyes and back to talking to their co-worker. They are sincerely nice and welcoming. My only complaints are the same as most. Pizza and candy are not healthy and should not be incorporated into a gym. Same goes for tanning. You ask me, their $ would be better spent offering free coffee/tea and a once a month outdoor fitness challenge. Higher weights would be great for lunks like my husband but he's not interested in going somewhere he's not wanted (and therefore judged lol!) anyway. I LOVE classes like yoga, total body & hoop fit and wish they offered something along those lines. I have been a member at the RAC, YMCA & Lifetime Fitness. PF wins. read more

I am not impressed with the customer service at this location. And not for nothin..... The employee's really don't see the huge dust bunnies, dirt and huge clumps of hair?? They are not only gathered in every single nook and cranny, of every single room.....But the dirt lines the base boards at this point. I literally clean up the place whenever I am there! It's all young kids, with big attitudes working there. For example, today I am a loyal PF customer, for the passed almost 3 years now. I only go to this location when I have to. Because it's dirty! however, it's closest to me. (Hemlock, ny-40+min away!) When I do go (twice in prob six months, started going to a much better location) Some how my visit turns into a nightmare! I purchased a $60 bottle of tanning lotion! But had to ASK FOR AN UNUSED BOTTLE!!!!!! mine was not ever sealed, but this girl made me feel l was crazy for wondering why the lotion was all over the inside top of the bottle?? I reluctantly bought it. Now I wish I Hadn't! she sets me up in a stand up bed for full time. I go in do my thing, and clean!!!! get in bed.....wont turn on. I called the main desk asked for a reset..... still nothing..... I out my clothes back on. Went back to the desk! because the bed is not powering on for me when I push the power on button! I explain and they put me in a bed now for only three min! Apparently because they messed up, I have to suffer the consequences?? I'm getting upset at this point and say fine! whatever I just want to tan I just spent $60 in here! AND drove over 49 min!!!!! wtf!?!?! I go anyways because I'm so upset I'm ready to CRY! seriously???? this is what I'm paying for every month!? NOT COOL!!!! Guess what I went in to put in my three whole entire minutes!!! Aaaand the bed won't power on again!!!!! mind you like I said earlier..... I'm a loyal three year customer and have only had this problem at one location! with ONE FEMALE STAFF MEMBER!!!! The only young lady who was working on Friday at 3:30-4pm. I asked her to come and look at the bed so she could see it was not a lie. She ended up getting it to turn on with 30 seconds left on the timer.... hmmm seems to me she struck out three times! And with that I left. Good luck Victor! I will be writing to headquarters about this as well. She was THAT BAD!!!!! I understand the "24 hr tanning rule" when it's staffs fault....... They need to fix that. It's not very well kept. The paper towels and soap empty I the ladies room. There's water all over the floor near the showers and changing area that's been there for 2 days. There is no personal trainer as the site says. And you can't cancel your membership without an extra $50 "buyout fee" which I wasn't aware of until I tried to quit. And was told by the employee that even after the year is up I would still have to pay that fee. read more

I had a really bad experience there today. I was treated terrible. By the same employee S the last time I was there.... Which was also a bad experience. The only difference this time, the bad experience didn't start until after I spent $60 on tanning lotion. Then they couldn't get the bed working properly and Wouldn't let me tan. Due to the 24 he rule. Even tho it was their fault. I've been a customer for three years. I have never had an issue starting the beds. And never have any issues other than this one employee. I do not know her. She was the only female working Friday evening. She needs to learn better customer service. As well as how to set a bed for tanning. I do the same thing every time I go. Is the power on button no longer the power on button???? Well not sure why they don't work whenever she is the one who sets it. P.s. I live 40+ min away this store, is closest to me. I've been driving e'k¥_xtra to go to a different location. Sucks! Next time I'll take a picture of the floor and all the bunnies that live there too!!!! If there EVER is a next time. I've been attending this PF since it opened a couple years back. It is only a 5 min drive (or a quick bike ride) from my house in Mendon, which makes its location very convenient. The next closest gym I know of is a Y about 12 min toward Pittsford. In addition to location, the price is also great. You can't beat $10/month for the standard membership. At $20/month you have access to any of the other PFs in the country, including the ones in Henrietta, Greece, and Chili. The upgraded membership also gives you unlimited tanning (which I admittedly used during the winter to avoid looking like a ghost) and allows you to bring a guest each time you go! The available equipment gets the job done, but they are lacking a bit in free weights (no barbells). If you want to bench press, you are stuck on a smith machine or with dumbbells (which go up to 75 lbs). They have resistance machines galore since they cater to the out-of-shape crowd that buys a membership, goes every day for a week, and stops coming while still paying the monthly fee. I guess you can't blame PF for their marketing strategy since it works. The only times I end up waiting for weights or benches is right when work lets out Monday through Friday (5-7). I almost have never had to wait for a cardio machine. They keep the locker rooms clean, and they usually don't get too crowded either. I have been a member of both the Y and the JCC, and I'd say PF is the best gym for its price. read more

FIX YOUR EARBUD CONNECTIONS! That's really all. Planet fitness is really great in terms of no-fuss work outs. Decent equipment, clean locker rooms, and the gym doesn't smell like a gym. Kudos! But most of the elliptical and all of the treadmills have these old school remote controls and ear bud connectors that don't work with normal ear buds. And by "normal" I mean iPhone ear buds which millions of people have. I understand I could listen to my own music or just focus on working out, but I like to watch TV to keep my workout going. And I can't hear anything at Planet Fitness! Please fix them. Please. read more

We have been going here for over a year now and find the location to be well equipped, clean, and staffed with friendly, caring staff. I have type 1 diabetes and have had low blood sugars while exercising and the staff have gone above and beyond to help me during these times. Really appreciate the nice layout and modern equipment. So much for promoting fitness! I've been riding bikes with a friend to the planet for the past few years leaving the bikes inside since there is no bike rack outside to secure the bikes under the "Bike Parking" sign. Was told recently by Caroline, a new employee, that her mgr, Hope Fromm, told her to tell us that the bikes had to go outside as corporate was showing up today. read more

Very deceptive business practices. I have been trying to cancel my membership as I have 5 comorbidities that make covid-19 a real issue for me. I was trying to do so remotely but was told that I had to risk exposure and cancel in person. When I arrived, I was informed that I would be billed for another month, even though I have frozen my account over the phone. I see why there are class action lawsuits against this company!!! I have filed a complaint with NYS and will see if I can join the law suits. Stay away!!! read more

So, I joined about 6 months ago. My issue since joining was the disgustingly dirty women's locker room. I didn't realize just how dirty it was during the initial tour of the facility since I wasn't using a stall or shower. I took my complaint to the manager one day, and he promptly closed the room to enable a male staffer to vacuum (at least in part) - no mopping or sanitizing. Since then, the room continues to deteriorate - debris in the toilet stalls, collection of dust and hair in the changing rooms and inside some of the lockers, soiled areas on the floor (same spots have been there since my first day). I certainly would never use the showers, and I cringe when changing if my bare feet touch the floor. If staffing is an issue, then they should hire an outside contractor to come in at least twice a week to "thoroughly" clean. Recently, several of the main floor towel holders are not being adequately maintained as well. The staff is nice enough, but if the sole trainer is not on duty, there is no one available to assist with a piece of equipment. read more

Signed up for what was advertised as $10/month no contract plan in Jan. Short version of BS this company does: when you sign up your given a billing cycle date. I'm told it's a randomly generated date undisclosed at time of signup. So you pay your 10, but then your billed again on that billing cycle date, which for me was 3 days later. Then they sneak an annual fee of $39 on or around March 1. Without being to long here, the billing practices are sneaky and covert. I was never billed on a consistent date monthly and had to call in for adjustments. I just cancelled today and don't recommend Planet Fitness due to cloudy at best billing practices. read more

I signed up for a special and they charged me with a high "annual fee" 1 month after I signed up that was higher than on the paperwork that I signed. I too was told it was by "kelly" and that she didn't work there anymore. See a pattern here? I know who I signed up with and it was not this mysterious "kelly". They would not refund the fee. The stationary bikes kept breaking and had gears that would grind non stop. After multiple complaints and the machines were not fixed I canceled, and they tried to make it as hard as possible. Ifrequent this gym often and there is dirty gum stuck to the floors in the locker room. It has been there at least a year. I've been going to this gym since October 2013 I have the black card (20.00) monthly. At first I really enjoyed going because they have every machine u could think of that alot of gyms don't have an staff were nice. All the staff were friendly at first I don't see many of them because I usually go late at night after work. I've had several issues with an employee who works the desk her names Janis. She is Never at the desk when I come in or to go tanning and then she gives customers attiude for not checking in with her. From my understanding as a customer I should not have to hunt an employee down or get yelled at for not finding her. She has very poor customer service an is poison and creates a negative unconfrotable environment. Other then many bad experiences dealing with her I've had no issues with the other staff. read more

I've been a Victor Planet Fitness member for 4 years, so obviously I think it has value. I am not a Black Card member so I have not directly compared the Victor PF facility to the Henrietta or Perinton facilities (which are less convenient for me but I hear they are larger and better). I have been to other gyms in the Rochester area and PF meets my simple needs, i.e. readily available treadmills, elliptical trainers, and some free weights. The PF membership cost is low, but you have to accept that it is a compromise. As for the things I like, the PF facility has the equipment I want, the price is low, the staff are friendly, the machines are clean, the men's locker room is mostly adequate, the facility hours suit my needs. What follows are some of the compromises that I accept. When I first joined PF, there were a number of machines that were not functioning well, but that seems to have improved over time with extra machines being added and being kept in good repair. I don't use the tanning booth or the hydro massage machines so I can't comment on them. I also don't partake of the 1x/month free pizza night or bagel morning, or their free candy (tootsie rolls), and the only downside I find to the free food is the overcrowding that occurs on pizza night so I skip those nights. The PF facility is clean and the showers are adequate, but I find the men's locker room to be rudimentary. When I first joined PF, the showers did not work reliably (being out of order most of the time). That has been fixed although one complaint I have is the manner in which it was fixed. A little over a year ago the PF showers and bathrooms were reworked and male members were inconvenienced for most of the summer with the showers and toilets out of operation. Outdoor Port-A-Johns were substituted but there were no showers so you stayed sweaty until you could get to a shower elsewhere. Ugh. Once the men's locker room was finished, the contractors started working on the women's locker room. During this work the women were temporarily moved to the men's locker room and the men were moved into the women's locker room. This made sense because the contractors (who were all men) could do their work in women's locker room since men were temporarily occupying it. However, this extended the inconvenience to the male members of the gym. During this 3 or 4 months we found that the PF management was tone-deaf to our complaints. They could have generated a lot of good will by offering us something (anything) such as a small account credit or a free month of membership, but their only concession late in the construction process was to say that we could go to one of the other PF facilities temporarily. Unfortunately none of the other locations were conveniently near Victor. Consequently I know 4 guys who joined other gyms because the lack of showers made it impossible for them to exercise before going to work. I'd say that the customer relations management was rather poor during this construction process although the final results were positive. As another compromise, the lockers in the men's locker room are narrow, similar to what you would find in a high school locker room so the lockers are a bit substandard. I wouldn't comment on this except that less than half of the men's lockers are ever in use at any time so the men's lockers could be twice as wide. If the refurbishment of the men's locker room had improved the lockers, I'd have no complaints about the men's locker room. Another compromise is that, unlike in the Planet Fitness commercials, the staff do not seem to police the weight machine users by sounding the lunk alarm or telling users to make less noise. The users of the Smith Machines tend to bang the weights against the stops which can be both startling and annoying if you are nearby on an elliptical trainer. When I look at who is making the noise, it is generally guys wearing headphones, so it is likely that they don't know how loud they are being. I have noted that the staff seem to turn over fairly often, so maybe they don't feel confident to critique noisy machine users. Consequently I find it necessary to move to the opposite end of the facility as far from the Smith Machines as possible. So there you have it, PF Victor is a compromise. It has improved over the last 4 years and the price is great compared to non-PF gyms, but for the price, you have to accept narrow lockers in the men's locker room, fairly constant staff turnover, noise made by the Smith Machine users, crowded pizza nights, and an occasional broken machine. read more

I went to sign up for their $149 a year deal but they wouldn't accept cash or debit/credit cards. They want direct access to my checking account via my routing number and account number. I told them I don't have a checking account. Since they wouldn't accept prepayment with cash, that can only lead me to believe that their plan is to charge additional unauthorized payments and or "fees" to my account. In this day and age of rampant identity theft, who would be crazy enough to trust a gym that can't handle cash, to safeguard their banking information?!? I never thought a fitness club could be so inexpensive yet have so much to offer. I've been a member at several clubs throughout my life and never have gotten so much of a value for my money as I do at Planet Fitness. Sure, they don't have the fancy classes, group exercise, or smoothie bars, but if you're looking for a no-frills club that's clean and has plenty of machines, then Planet Fitness is where you want to be. You might have a favorite type of cardio machine you use - well, at Planet Fitness you never have to worry about all of them being taken. They have to have at least 20 elliptical machines, 25 treadmills, 5 stair masters, a full weight circuit, and loads of free weights. They also have nice locker rooms with showers. The locker rooms (at least the men's) are very clean. I've been at clubs that cost at least twice as much as Planet Fitness and they don't have any showers. I have read other reviews of people claiming the club isn't clean or that the locker rooms are dirty. The locker rooms have been redone, so perhaps they wrote their review before the renovations were done. Others complain about the billing practices or that they couldn't get out of their contract easily. You're going to face those issues no matter what club you join. Any fitness club has a minimum one-year commitment and a joining fee. The bottom line is that if you're looking for a good club that offers all the basics and aren't looking for a club that offer unique benefits (such as classes, a pool, massage, gymnasium, etc.), then I would highly recommend Planet Fitness. read more

Loved it before it became planet fitness. I'm not a lunk but I enjoy the gym. They don't make you feel comfortable if you're an avid gym goer, even if you don't make the noises or drop weights. They place a negative stigma on athleticism and glorify the average. read more

Came to town for a week and needed a place to workout. Kelly told me it was cheaper to sign up with the special than to pay the drop in fee each day of $15. The special was $10 to sign up, $10 for the month, no commitment. She said I could cancel at the end of the week with no fee. Sent me on my way. No introduction. Didn't explain their layout, rules, or policies. Worked out a few days. The bathrooms and equipment are filthy. But, there's plenty of cardio equipment. Tried to cancel today and told there would be a $58 cancellation fee by Bobbie. She slow rolled me for about 20 minutes. I told her about the special and she asked me to show her on their Facebook page. So I did. Then she told me that was a new special. I pointed out that I signed up during the specified dates. Then she told me the Kelly didn't put it in the system right so it would be $58. She so told me Kelly didn't work there anymore and she couldn't call her manager, Collin, because he was off and probably wouldn't answer. I told her I would wait until she got a hold of a manager or one came in. Eventually, after staring at her cell phone and then the computer and then the paper, she did the cancellation paperwork.
