My organization had a daylong offsite event at Plank and it was a great experience. We had a really cool private area with an outdoor patio and views of the Bay. The food was great and everyone had a lot of fun bowling in our own private lanes. The staff were super nice and helpful. In particular, the event coordinator, Angelica, was very easy to work with and patient as I had to get a bunch of approvals to book. And Melissa, our on-site support person, did a fantastic job making sure we had everything we needed. Would totally recommend and will definitely be back! read more

My husband, our two pups, and I were in the area for the Jack London Pup Crawl and decided to check out Plank. Since it was on the map of dog-friendly businesses, we already knew our dogs would be welcome. When we arrived, we weren't surprised to find the patio area busy. We weren't sure if we could grab a table or had to wait to be seated. There was no staff around, so when I saw a server, I asked her, and she told me we could seat ourselves. While checking out the menu, we were happy to see a section for dogs! I wish more dog-friendly spots offered that (I'm sure my dogs do too). My husband and I were in an appetizer mood, so we ordered the plank rolls and the nacho stack. Between the two we liked the plank rolls better. The nachos were decent (nothing to brag home about) and were generously portioned. We ordered the pup cup (plain yogurt and fruit) for my dogs. One of my dogs LOVED IT. My other dog is picky and did not. I wasn't sure how big the portions were for pup cup, but it was also generous. One pup cup would have been enough for both dogs. Words of advice: the fruit used is pineapple and cantaloupe. As im sure most dog parents know they can only be given in a small amount. The portion is double what is recommended to give a dog. Been there a few times over the years. Located in the Jack London square area. Always loved the atmosphere. BUT yesterday was an exception. First, the inside with zero air condition was untenable. Outside at the bar was cooler, but we were not exactly the correct color, so we were ignored. Had to go to the bar to order for ourselves. Insult to injury, my credit card was hacked. This place has a ton of potential based on the the location and activities available. Unfortunately you'll find out why it has such low ratings. The low ratings come from the customer service (or lack there of). The servers are NOT attentive at all. When you walk in, there is nobody to greet you. This place is huge. It has bowling, a bar inside and a bar outside. There are fire pits and large format games outside. There is a decent arcade inside. The place has absolutely no flow or direction. You dont know what to do once you're inside. There's no host, or anyone greeting you upon entry. This is a huge fail by the managers and marketing team. Now where they shine is in fact the food. I was actually impressed with the quality. Firstly, we had the original cheese pizza ($18), and it tasted like a stone oven. Crust was thin and crispy. Sauce was not too sweet or bitter. The amount of cheese was perfect as well. We ate 6 of the 8 slices. It came in an oval shape similar to a flatbread. It's small, so you wont be sharing with more than 2 people. Next we had the plank fries ($16) and this thing was massive. This is something you'd share with the table. Fondue cheese, applewood bacon, green onions were the toppings. This was super tasty. We shared a bowl of ultimate Mac and Cheese ($16), it had cheddar jack, mozzarella, and asiago. This could have been better with a layer of cheese on top and torched / broiled to a nice crust. Even fast food places offer this, so it's very bad for a sit down brick & mortar to miss the mark here. We finished with coke, sprite and I had an old fashioned. The drink was good, but it didn't have the big single ice cube. I wasn't given an itemized receipt either, so hopefully I was charged correctly. Finally, on today they closed at 430p for a private party. This was very unfortunate because lots of students are out for winter break. They stopped taking food orders at 4pm, and made announcements about every 10 minutes leading up to 4:30pm. I tasted better elsewhere (Scott's, Quinn's Lighthouse, Coqueta in SF, Angelina's Louisiana Kitchen in Berkeley, Westside Club/Shibe Park Tavern at the Coliseum). The balance of tea and lemonade was not there. I wasn't feeling it. I could barely taste the tartness of the lemonade. One of the ladies in the group switched from the Arnie Palmer to a Long Island iced tea. She said it tasted more like iced tea, and the presentation of the Arnie Palmer looked more like iced tea. The secret of a perfect Arnie Palmer is two layer - lemonade on the bottom of the glass, topped with iced tea. The Arnie Palmer barely passed my test. The Margherita pizza was okay. I never had it with balsamic vinegar. It was edible, and again, I had better elsewhere, as in Tony's Pizza Napoletana, North Beach, SF, and Forge Pizza around the corner. Two of my friends had the Crispy Chicken Salad. They said it was good. For the price, the salad was a generous portion. Yet another friend had the Cuban and sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were delicious and on point. Even though those two items were good, it was not enough to up the rating to four stars. Came here for a company event. The Plank does not validate parking or so we were told by an employee, so let's just get that out of the way. We had the upstairs bar above the gaming area reserved, it had a nice patio with a view of the waterfront. Food that was served was sub par for what I was expecting. I don't know if the ribs and mashed potatoes are the same ones being served at their restaurant down stairs but it left me still hungry because it was lacking wow factor. It was good for free food but if I had to pay I would've orders something else. Came through here twice now in the recent months to catch a game and some drinks/food at the bar after taking an urban stroll with coworkers. Plenty of TVs for sports games, good bar food and drinks. I had a giftcard I wanted to use at Plank and since I'd found out via email that Plank had some Oakland Restaurant Week specials, I decided it'd be a good opportunity to order some food. There is no way to order takeout over the phone or online, however; the only way to order takeout is via DoorDash, which doesn't work if you're trying to use a gift card, so I had to come in person to order. I came in on a Friday evening, which is a busy time. When I entered Plank, I found it confusing and overwhelming to figure out where I could go to order the food. With the music playing, people talking, and sounds of the arcade games and bowling, I personally found it overstimulating. There were some signs pointing to different attractions within Plank, such as one that said "Eats," but it wasn't really helpful for figuring out where to order. At first I went outside to the beer garden area, where there is a lot of outdoor seating, but after waiting a while, I realized the bar was probably not the best place to order food, so went back inside and ordered from a bar inside. The worker I spoke to said I need to be 21+ to order even if I'm not ordering alcohol, but then they didn't even really look at my driver's license when I pulled it out. At first they tried to get one of their coworkers to take my order instead but the coworker was on their break. They also seemed confused when I said I'd won a giveaway and didn't have a physical giftcard, but was able to find someone else (presumably a manager) who searched and was able to find the envelope where my giftcard had been stored. They estimated 15-20 minutes for the food to be ready. I ordered the goat and truffle pizza, BBQ chicken pizza, and the mango and peach pocket pie. Goat and truffle pizza: I liked the truffles, they are juicy and savory. The arugula was alright. It didn't have enough goat cheese, couldn't really taste cheese at all. Overall I thought it was pretty good given I don't really like mushrooms. The pizza is thin. BBQ chicken pizza: I like the sweetness of the BBQ sauce. I am not sure why they put cilantro on it. I also felt like it was rather lacking in cheese. Mango and peach pocket pie: This is a temporary item from the Oakland Restaurant Week menu, and costs $10. I really could only taste the peach but not the mango as much. It seemed like they probably used preserved or canned fruit. It was also decent, and came with vanilla ice cream. Overall I thought the food itself was fine, but the experience of trying to navigate the physical location and to order the food was chaotic and overwhelming. I've been to Plank once before in the past for a work party, but that was quite different since it was a weekday afternoon so there weren't really other people there, which meant service was faster and I didn't really have to figure out my way around the venue. read more

Our firm had our summer event at Plank last Saturday afternoon and we all had the best time from kids to adults! Bowling, pool, shuffleboard, ping-pong and arcade games. We had our own space including an outside deck. The food was delicious and the outside bar terrific.
