Over the weekend, my friends and I went to Mama T's to try her infamous fish sandwich, and I have to say--it was everything they said it would be! Not only that, the cajun fries tgat come with it are absolute PERFECTION!!! ‍ I think I paid about $18 for the sandwich and fries after tax. Mama T's is a tiny, hole-in-the-wall spot with just enough room to step inside, place your order, grab a drink, and step back outside to wait for your food at the curb. She sells a variety of things, including turkey burgers, wings, and more, but the fish sandwich is actually what brought me there. Mama T was so sweet, and she was in the kitchen working alongside her son, Terrence, who I believe does most of the cooking. The customer service was absolutely top-tier, and I'll definitely be back! One thing I noticed was how many people walked up and were disappointed to find out that the fish sandwiches had already sold out. I think she needs to create a sign to post when the sandwiches are sold out so that people don't waste their time in line only to find out once they get to the register. Nonetheless we got lucky as we were among the last few people to get one! With that, if I had to give you one tip: GO EARLY! I'd recommend getting there at least an hour or so before closing because those fish sandwiches definitely sell out. Overall, great food, great service, and definitely worth the visit! read more

I came here yesterday after seeing a tik tok video a few days ago. I ordered the fish sandwhich. It was fantastic. The portion size was more than enough. It wasn't too greasy and the fish was fried just right. It also came with fries. I recommend calling ahead or ordering online. This is a walk up place and parking is hard to find as it's downtown. Omg where do I begin? I had Mama T's famous fish sandwich about 2 years ago and it was so memorable that I make sure I have time to stop by when I'm in the Bay! The restaurant is more like a takeout spot, with a few stools outside for diners. Everything is mostly made to go, but I don't mind. I parked in front and ate in my car! The business hours are limited, and I can see why! Everything is flavorful and FRESH. The prices are great, and the staff are really nice. The Famous Fish Sandwich! I had to see what the hype was all about as a result of me constantly hearing reviews from others and it did not disappoint. The fish is Basa and they give a good portion on the sandwich. The fries were seasoned to the max, something I am not use to but was not necessarily bad. We came during the afternoon break and did have to wait till 3pm to order. The restaurant is pretty small with a couple seats outside, but the logo is easy to notice as you're walking down the block. It took about 10 minutes for our food to come out. We decided to try the famous fish sandwich which also comes with a generous portion of seasoned fries. For the price of $13, this was definitely worth it! The fish itself has a delicious outer crust (corn meal?) that reminds me of fried food in the South and is not dried out at all. They've been here far longer than I've lived here, but I found out about it when a documentary for Too Short was being filmed in the downtown-ish area between Telegraph and San Pablo ave. This place deserves to be a tourist hotspot based upon food quality and reheatability alone. I am from out of town but grew up on soul food so this was truly within my palette. Located in downtown Oakland, near The Fox and the Paramont, this is my go to place for a yummy meal on the run. It's a walk up and she does take credit cards. There's a couple of bistro tables in front on the sidewalk but the smells on the sidewalk can at times (like today) be on the unpleasant side. It's a busy area with lots of folks roaming around so I've never felt unsafe but keep up your guard just in case.
