As a patient at this location for about 5 years now, I am always singing the praises of this facility. However, some more recent practices have me concerned. Over the last year (or maybe two), they always attempt to charge me a copay for services that are fully covered under my insurance. If I pay, I am always refunded that amount because I shouldn't have been charged it to begin with. Or, when I actually do have a co-pay, they attempted to charge me an amount that is much higher. So I have started questioning it every time and they will do a "courtesy waive" of the fee and tell me that I will just be charged if I wind up owing it. This is fine. However, not everyone has the finances for an unexpected and unnecessary fee, just to be refunded 1+ months later. And not everyone will be comfortable questioning it (I know i feel like a bit of a "Karen" every time I do). I've even called the number to try to get clarification on why this randomly started happening after years of me being a patient, and no one seems to be able to answer. Additionally, for my most recent visit, I was asked for the first time when checking in what my monthly salary is. I very taken aback by this. First, I've never been asked this. Second, I was asked this in the open, at the front desk with other people around. And third, like I imagine with most pre-scheduled appointments, I filled out my check-in info prior to coming here. This question seems like it would be much more appropriate to ask in the private forms you complete vs at the front desk, if it even needs to be asked at all. I would like to think that maybe they are asking this question to BETTER serve those who may have lower incomes, but then that should be more clearly explained and that information should be handled via other methods. I love the staff here. I love this facility. And I have received excellent care over the last 5 years. But PP has always served the most marginalized folks, particularly those who are economically disadvantaged. I happen to be financially secure, but these couple things seem like they could be alienating to those who are not and could discourage them from seeking care. I understand the staff are just doing their jobs by implementing these things, so it is not on them. But I hope these practices will be reconsidered. read more

Amazing team that enables me to feel so seen and welcomed. I've been to countless PCP and none of the clinics were good. The receptionist was very warm and welcoming, and the doctor was very understanding and easy to talk to. I had to do venipuncture for my annual physical and I have always been very afraid of needles. I told the nurse and she was super reassuring - chatting with me to divert my attention away and made sure that it is as painless as possible. This is such a drastic difference from everywhere else that I've ever been to. I feel really safe and taken care of and would love to visit again. read more

The location is perfect.. didn't have any issues finding it or parking . The staff was caring and very knowledgeable. They explained everything that would be taking place and I felt like family honestly. I was comfortable and felt at ease. The place is hyper secure which made me feel better as well. The staff was friendly and really tried their best to assist me but I still was upset that my appointment time was 10:20am I arrived at 9:40am and I dident leave till 6pm . Their was no one left working in the building as I was walking out and I was confused because I was one of the first people there I felt forgotten about at time and had to keep asking how long is the wait . I wasn't prepared to be there all day to the point my ride left me to go work because they couldn't wait anymore and I had to be by myself . Than I was experiencing pain that ibuprofen 600 couldn't fix a couple days later after a procedure I called the office and provider number and couldn't reach anyone . read more

This is one of the absolute worst baseline healthcare facilities -- in California planned parenthood's are like little safe sanctuaries and here oh my god... I swear it's like who even works here? The front desk staff was literally probing me about my vision issues and kept insisting that a family member help me complete the forms? I don't have family that can help me. Then he was questioning how my vision impacts me. Front desk staff really need to be trained to be more inclusive of different disabilities - it's hard enough as it is being open about challenges and asking for help, then being challenged on it as if I'm lying? Please check out any other place if you have the option to not come here. They also kept insisting for me to have an emergency contact even though I said I HAD NO ONE. My mom just died and then I had to go into why I don't have anyone to put down. I was like would you like me to just google a random number? You are welcome to put down 911. The whole thing was a complete waste of time my appt was at 11am they took over 45 mins just to even get me through some virtual front desk process which I had already done most of online and they waited till after my appointment time to let me know I had two layers of pre appojtnment content to go through before I could even see the doctor, again this is now at 11:45 and my appt was at 11. Planned parenthoods are usually serving more vulnerable populations and I'm just really sad and let down about the whole process here. Truly like made me feel so sick and I don't want these people handling my care whatsoever. You'd be better off going to urgent care for anything non pregnancy related IMO. I not only do not recommend this place I highly suggest to stay away from it. For those of you who have no other option I am sorry and I hope the healthcare system improves to give more options than this. read more

UPDATE: Even more screw-ups. After telling me they would send all of my labs (plural) to my primary care doctor, they then threw away my samples and only ran one of my tests (a rapid test that was done during the appointment). They sent that one test to my doctor without telling me they had sent it, and without me ever signing the form they claimed I needed to sign for them to release any information. Let me repeat that super clearly: I told them at the appointment I would need them to send all of my tests to my primary care physician for me to avoid having a break with no medication, and they said they would do it -- but then they just threw my samples away instead, without a word. They never bothered to call me back or communicate with me. I had to keep calling them and pressuring them to even answer basic questions about my care. I've had to call them five times throughout the course of all this and ask to speak to a manager to get any kind of response. I'm now out of medication with no way to get renewed, because they didn't bother to run one of the tests my primary care doctor needed. And it is now the holidays, so I can't get an appointment to get the labs redone until more than a week has passed. Go to this Planned Parenthood if you like having doctors be completely negligent about your care and put you at risk. That is their greatest skill. read more

This review is for both this NE office and Frederick (Frederick branch doesn't seem to have a yelp page) Everyone from the front desk to the nurses were exceptional in their standard of care and bedside manner, I would recommend these two branches every time. This office in particular has funky and cool furniture, parking is a little hard but there was a parking lot right across from what I recall I think you had to pay for it! I don't really remember well about how much. I'm not sure when this location was built or renovated but it definitely has a nice new feel and comfortable waiting areas. My experience with them was great. Easy to make and edit appointments online. Getting checked-in for my appointment was easy and quick. All the staff I've interacted with have been kind and willing to listen and educate patients so I could get the most out of my appointment time. Would recommend for primary care as well. read more

Initially made an appointment to discuss birth control options/STI testing, but I developed a complicated UTI in the meantime. Y'all - I wish this was as simple as a long wait time. THEY LOST MY BLOOD. I'm still not clear on how this happened, and I wasn't going to write a review but after multiple phone calls, including unanswered ones, and a final call confirming that "your blood was unfortunately not tested, but this is lab corps fault, not ours" and now a letter stating something like "we encourage you to pursue recommended follow up treatment for any serious conditions you could have", I'm done. First of all, after communicating my anxiety, I was promised a quick turnaround. #joke. Second, I've since been tested... and know I'm fine, no thanks to these ppl. Third, where is my blood? Fourth, as a final "f you" to me, I call in the day of my rescheduled "appointment" to cancel because I no longer trust them... and I am told that my appointment was the day before (when they called to confirm they lost my blood). These ppl can't even schedule an appointment correctly. Proceed very carefully. I'd be back for something that didn't require blood and the free condoms. Otherwise, beware. And honestly, Medstar is quicker. read more

Looking to be treated as if your time, privacy, budget, and feelings clearly don't matter? you've found the place! It's so unfortunate that in such a lovely space, you can get such callous treatment! What is even more concerning is that a place designed to serve the most marginalized and often most traumatized communities, the staff can be so insensitive. I have generally had a. good experience here. The front desk staff are great. Dr. Montoya is patient and attentive. They helped me figure out getting care for my broken wrist. The office is clean and quiet. The rooftop parking is safe, easy and free. I used to wait for a while before being seen. The wait time has been reduced by a lot! I have medicaid and the copays are very minimal. For what it is, I am very satisfied with the services. I use this facility for primary and OBGYN care. read more

If you are looking to simply have the health of your pre born baby checked out, please go and see an OBGYN. This place is only prioritize people looking for an alternative option. Had an appointment at 2:45pm, arrive at 2:30pm and checked in, they stated they do not accept insurance, I feel they were dishonest about this, and had to pay $180 out of pocket just to get a ultrasound (which isn't even a full ultrasound). After making the payment at 2:35pm, we remained sitting in the lobby for close to a hour until we were called up to the desk at 3:25. The guy said that they were behind and asked us if we would like to reschedule, after waiting for a hour. We continued to wait and we were finally called at 3:37pm. They then took my wife to the back to ask her very intrusive question. They let me in the back at 3:45pm and I then asked for a manager. I told the lady to get me her manager. Monisha the manager came and talked to us. She first gave her sincere apology about the wait and experience. Monisha by the way is truly amazing and the nurse that assisted us after to have the age of our baby (a older white woman) was also truly fantastic, both of you get 5 stars. I know after posting their review there will be some form of fake empathetic statement from Megane Simoes that will say they will share your feedback with the management team and they will reach out to you. I've had great experiences here, aside from the exorbitantly lengthy wait times. It doesn't really seem to matter whether or not you make an appointment; it's going to take at least a couple of hours. However, my most recent visit was less than stellar. I wanted to change birth control methods, and I was told repeatedly that I could have an implant removed and an iud insertion in the same appointment. I confirmed that my insurance would cover this on three separate occasions and with multiple people. The day of my appointment, I checked in, and thirty minutes later, the receptionist called me over to tell me that I'd have to make two different appointments. I was upset and asked her why they had told me otherwise when I asked multiple times. She just shrugged; I expected at least an apology for the inconvenience. When I was finally seen, the nurse assistant asked me questions about why I wanted to switch birth control methods. I explained some undesirable side effects, and the nurse straight up gaslighted me--she told me how these side effects were not possible and that it was all in my head. I pointed out that these were all listed as side effects on the pamphlet for the birth control I was using, and she flat out told me I was wrong. I really didn't appreciate this. Then, she had the audacity to tell me that I should just take some pills (on top of my already troublesome implant) to maybe make it better. The whole point of this appointment was to stop the hormonal birth control--I felt very disrespected by the nurse and would not interact with her again if I had the choice. The doctor was much better and respected my choices, but I expect better from PP. read more

This is the worst Planned parenthood I've ever been too. This was my first pregnancy and the staff made everything feel transactional and bothersome. I switched jobs and was dealing with a recent insurance lap but had Medicaid, I had to pay $49 out of pocket for a blood test that Medicaid magically doesn't cover but I also had another appointment for an ultrasound where they don't accept Medicaid as well, $160. I refused to pay and left. This location should be closed for the customer service alone. For an institution that is supposed to support and provide help to people in need, the staff sure does act like they would rather be anywhere else. Your better off going to an emergency room. An emergency room will Atleast answer your questions ACCURATELY and swiftly like all medical professionals SHOULD. read more

The only negative thing I would have to say is the waiting time and not being able to reach them via telephone. It's really rare that I'm able to reach them when I call, and when I do, I am put on hold for almost thirty minutes sometimes. Also, the mailbox is full so it's impossivle to leave a voicemail. Beware of protesters at the entrance because this clinic allows abortion. They have staff outside in orange vests to escort you inside the building and that's bonus points in my book! Special shout out to Wendy for doing my blood work. Making me extra comfortable with easy conversation and answering all my questions. Also to Brittany for being super sweet and patient. I called nearly everyday haha! Oh yeah there's a parking lot across from the clinic which is free on Saturday's! If not on Saturday I believe 6-8$ for the entire day! Im so sad to write a negative review on Planned Parenthood as I am grateful they exist and help many. But this location is POORLY MANAGED. READ THE REST if you DONT HAVE INSURANCE AND ARE ON A BUDGET: 1. They are not clear about pricing. I was told a cost over the phone when making the appointment, a different number at the reception when I arrived, and a different number after I got out. 2. I was told it will cost $108 for a full pelvic exam and PEP exam. Later they will not be doing part of my testing (PEP) because the practitioner didn't have time. I was happy to schedule another appointment but that meant I payed at least another $108 for the next visit and PEP. I was also tested for STDs, blood drawn, this was not necessary as I got A FREE TESTING AT WHITMAN-WALKER HEALTH CLINIC a week ago but I was told it was included then I was told it was $100. They said this was because of the lab work, then they told me they wont send the blood to the lab so I didn't have to pay for it. So they took my blood for nothing. ALSO the lady that examined me was rushed, in a bad mood and NOT GENTLE. She made whats already akward and uncomfortable a painful experience. . I stood for at least 30 mins (felt like a life time) for them to figure it out and explain to me that I owe them $150 with no explanation as to why. The lady at the reception was the only one who showed any sort of empathy to the situation but she was powerless. The manager kept running to the back and coming back with no new information, she was apathetic. It was just a terrible experience. I paid the amount and left. It was waste of time, blood and nerves. So here is what I understand: Every visit costs $108, that is you walking through the door, from there you don't have control over how much you will pay. They can charge you $200 or more on the spot and do not give you an explanation why. They treat individuals who don't have health insurance as if they themselves are insurance companies. I can understand the pricing they present to ME for an insurance company but they don't have a policy for individuals without insurance. They either act like they are private company and forget their whole purpose or this is just a poorly managed facility. DO NOT GO IF YOU DONT HAVE INSURANCE TO THIS FACILITY. read more

It's really unfortunate that PP patients, many who are having to endure something very personal, have to go through a long, gruesome process to be seen. While the facility is bright and open it feels like a slow assembly line of people with many different needs. I was aware that I should reserve 3 hours for my appointment but from the time I arrived (on-time) I was told that between the wait and each step, it would take 4-6 hours. You'll here complaints from most people in the waiting room with how long they've been waiting and that they need to go to work but unfortunately we were all told even if we reschedule the 4-6 hour wait time will still apply since there is only one doctor. Prior to being a patient I was a long time supporter and now I just feel like I've wasted my time and money where for the same amount I could've gone to another local clinic that guarantees a 1hr appointment time. read more

This was my first time at any Planned Parenthood facility and it was gorgeous inside. It also had security which was very reassuring, too considering the political climate we're living in... It took me a long time to see the doctor (about 2 hours) which was frustrating at first, but once I made it in to the doctor's office everything was splendid from there. Everyone was so nice and incredibly friendly - even when they asked the awkward questions they weren't that awkward! Again, the facilities are gorgeous, everything was clean, so you feel comfortable the entire time. They were also very clear about what my exam meant and what my next steps were. The only thing I would change about this appointment was the wait time - so I recommend just planning accordingly as they do have longer hours on certain days and should be able to accommodate you. Sounds so cheesy that I look forward to going back to the doctor, but I really do look forward to going back. Nurse Dawn was amazing. read more

Incredible facility with kind and courteous staff. Worth visiting for your healthcare needs! After nine months of back and forth, stress, and anxiety over the cost and process of removing my birth control arm implant, I made the decision to have it removed by PP. My previous appointment, at an OBGYN, had a two month wait! Whereas here, I was able to see them almost immediately (a few days). It was easy to get to by the metro. It's located within a 5-minute walk east of the NoMa stop. I was surprised by the high level of security but given all of the political drama around PP, it made sense and made me feel protected. Beyond that, I was struck by how GORGEOUS and clean the facility was. Even the waiting room was designed for privacy! And once past the receptionist who confirms your visit, the staff is quick to help you and make sure you feel comfortable. I was attended to shortly after arriving. And after answering a series of questions, my implant removal was so quick and painless. I enjoyed talking to the doctor a lot. My insurance covered most of the cost so I only paid $40 which was billed to me after the fact by mail. (I had been anticipating to pay much more and before leaving!) Too, I left with a prescription for birth control pills which is what I wanted. I could not recall my previous brand of pills so I went with their recommendation. A few weeks later, I did recall, made an appointment, and revisited. That second time I visited the receptionist told me I actually didn't need to make an appointment. She went out of her way to talk to the doctor about having my birth control brand change request to my preference and just like that, was in and out. That afternoon my new prescription was at the CVS by my apartment. I left so happy! Thank you so much PP! read more

very clean and modern facility. Theres always going to be a wait for wherever you go when it comes to healthcare. But I had a much shorter wait time and better quality care during the weekdays earlier in the day. Weekends and afternoons are busier, so obviously wait times are longer and nurses are more rushed. I had a great experience during an early Thursday: was seen in 15 minutes despite being late by a nurse who was very patient, compassionate, and informative of the details of my condition. The next day I received a call about my blood work, they said they were concerned about a complication which i appreciated. I had a follow up two days later, Saturday afternoon, and was early yet I waited an hour to be seen and saw some people who were here before me still waiting as I left. When i was finally seen, the nurse asked me what I wanted done. Excuse me? this isnt a salon or spa, youre the health professional here and should know. I told her i was here for a follow up and she drew my blood and sent me off without asking about my symptoms afterwards or about the complication that was mentioned over the phone which worried me. I told her about this and she had no comment, just sent me off. Also, it took 30 minutes for them to discharge me, which shouldve been an easy task. when I came up to ask what was taking so long, turns out my folder was dropped on the floor and forgotten. Then the receptionist said out loud "You were following up for an abortion pill right??". The waiting room echoes enough for most people to have heard, and this was a violation of my privacy. Fortunately I dont really care who knows but for those who want more privacy, be wary. tldr; quality of care can really differ depending on the time or who your nurse is. Go as early as possible and on a weekday. read more

I haven't had great experiences in the DC area with health providers, so it was so wonderful coming here for a primary care visit. The facility itself is fantastic. But the best part was the staff. All the nurses and staff members were friendly and helpful. You can tell they care about the patients and aren't just there to make money off of them, (I've felt this way with several other providers). Additionally, the doctor who was me was so so wonderful. He took time to make sure I understood what he was saying and explained the routine procedure so I could understand it and feel at ease about what was going on. Overall, he had great bedside manner and was very knowledgeable. I was so happy with the care I received here and am glad to know I can always seek affordable, quality care here. Daryl, more like Karen.... this lady was extremely rude to me today! I felt some racial discrepancies. She literally fit the stereotype of white women being problematic and disrespectful. I don't like having to ask them for help, and I don't like their condescending tones while helping. Sure enough daryl gave me just that insinuating i was the reason for her nurse to not follow up with me. Insinuating i wouldve put my health at risk as opposed to telling my doctor what was wrong with me. Hilarious. In fact while on the phone with my doctor i specifically recall talking about the enormous amount of back pain i was experiencing and how i feared it was my kidney since i know that's in my medical history. She proceeded to be condescending and unhelpful. Telling me oh well essentially and that since that's not what their notes say it's nothing i can do but go to the ER they couldn't help. Funny she wouldn't even give me her last name. White women seem to remember that they are white before they are "women". The only useful part of the conversation came behind closed doors where the receptionist Cpo.dadis was extraordinarily helpful! He explained to me the reason that i could not be seen, it wasn't because of the follow up being unsuccessful but in fact it was because she was booked for the day, and since my symptoms were so severe it would be best if I went to the emergency room. He apologize for Miss Darrells delivery because her tone might've made the message lost in translation he guaranteed that it was only because of the lack of doctors available. He was the only highlight though he was only willing to side with me after the rude woman went away. I would not recommend this facility. This is a brand new office with all sorts of fancy facilities and really kind staff. I did have to wait about 15 minutes for my appointment but the waiting room was pleasant and I didn't mind. There's a ton of security which was kind of crazy, but I did feel very safe (which I have never had to think about at the doctor!). My checkup was fast but the physician was really nice and I did not feel rushed at all. Parking can be a little tricky so would recommend alternative transport. read more

I spent a $30 uber to get there but I was 30 mins late , they refused to see me because they have a 20 min late policy but they NEVER told me this when I made the appointment. This place is an absolute joke. I've had issues from the get-go with male to female hormone therapy, since February this year. 1. When the prescription was initially written up, CVS couldn't fill it because PP didn't complete the prescription. This took forever to fix. 2. When trying to schedule my follow up three months later, a few weeks before it was needing to be scheduled, I'd call in every couple days, during business hours, and I was greeted on the appointment line with a message stating that PP was closed. 3. When I finally had my appointment over the weekend, they called me. Charged me. Then put me on hold for over 30 minutes to "do my intake" stuff even though I was already in the system. During this excessive hold time where no one came back to tell me what was going on, I got a text from Amanda Reams to join a video conference. I joined the call, and was removed from the waiting room. When I reconnected to this call, the doctor was offline. When I called back in, I was told that they tried calling back three times (they didn't, no missed calls or voicemails) and that I have to reschedule, but there's nothing available for two or more weeks. This is the second time in a month that I'll be running out of my prescription, which I'm not supposed to stop taking as per the documentation. Great job sucking at running a doctor's office guys. You all take the cake at sucking. read more

The women who work the front desk should be let go. My girlfriend as well as many of her friends that utilize this organization have said on multiple occasions how rude, short and cold they are. Most of those women are completely unapproachable. I would consider hiring new front desk staff. We will be letting everyone we know to NEVER use the D.C health center. read more
