The nurse Leigh is super friendly and also answers all questions with kindness and patience. With such an awful fear of doctors, I'm so glad I found such an amazing place for prenatal care. It's nice to feel totally comfortable going to a doctor's office (for probably the first time ever). I highly recommend this place. They answer all phone calls and return calls promptly. I was not able to see the doctor as I had other appointments to keep that day, and the only explanation I received was that they always run late. Also, I was told that the doctor likes to spend time with her patients. Not sure why I wasn't considered a patient enough for her to want to spend time with me. After waiting for an hour, I started to get dressed (that's right, I waited for 30 minutes in a thin robe in January) and a doctor finally came in to see me. Not the doctor I had initially booked my appointment with but a doctor. When I told her I didn't have time for the appointment anymore she just shut the door and left. The nurses and admin staff seemed nice enough, but the unprofessional attitude of the doctors is definitely not a great experience.

Dr. Jacobson treated my wife for five months of a high-risk (twins) pregnancy. We never felt rushed or intrusive when working with him. He treated us as his only patients in the world and he always gave us all the time we needed. He is a warm and very funny man, in addition to being a fantastic OB. Here's an amazing story: On the night my wife was expected to deliver after a 30-hour labor, Dr. Jacobson was scheduled to be off duty. My wife was so upset by this news that she actually broke into tears at the prospect of Dr. J not being there to deliver our twin girls. The doctor immediately canceled his personal plans and stayed with us through the healthy vaginal delivery. That's the kind of personal touch you just don't see very often these days. We weren't even done with the paperwork you have to fill as a new patient. If you are coming to this office for the…read morefirst time, even if you are coming for just a routine annual pap smear, you will be charged a new doctor visit. What that means is that instead of having your entire visit covered by your insurance in full, your visit ($595.00) will be subject to deductible. We received a bill for $342.24 after insurance paid plus another $100 for labs because now even the pap testing isn't covered because of the way it's coded/billed. Nothing different was done during this visit that wouldn't be done at any routine pap smear. This is just a money maker for the office and a HUGE scam. This was my 22 year old daughter's first pap smear. Our PCP (male) gave her this doctor's name to get her pap done because she was uncomfortable having it done by a man. Now she's saying she's just not going to have pap smears done anymore. This is a policy that MUST change. Women should not be treated this way. Shame on this office. Shame on UMASS. This overcharging it why we pay so much for insurance.

When you ask,"Thank you for calling AFA, could you hold?" Actually wait for the response to your question instead of putting you back hold for forever. Longest I was on hold with them was 40 minutes until I was disconnected. I've seen a few different doctors the years I've gone here and none of them are insightful, have bedside manner or make you feel comfortable. It's like being on an assembly line. Some of us have had painful contractions and no assistance what so ever with complications. You would think that the women working there would show compassion...they don't. They don't care if there's urgent matters that can't be solved with calling 9-1-1. If a pregnancy is at risk you need to respect that, at least let patients leave a message so they don't have to waste time. Their phlebotomist shouldn't be taking blood from people. Two friends of mine had no choice but to be patients here and we all ended up with intense bruises for weeks after, when the main hospital lab doesn't even leave a mark. I don't trust them to care about my baby. Take this as constructive. If you have enough patients voicing concerns...stop trying to save face by replying with,"Your care is important to us, we take our work seriously..." Then fix yourselves. Not going back.
