We've used PPNW for a couple of years now. The good news is your gardeners will be reasonably capable, show up on time people who speak english. Here's the bad: They've gotten very expensive at $55 per hour per gardener and require a one year contract. Your lead/contact gardener will NOT be on site while work is done. You will see gardeners on their phones while working one-handed. We have a hydrangea that borders on our neighbor's garden. The PPNW gardeners chose to prune only half of it leaving it weird looking and incomplete. Why they didn't knock on the door or call to ask if it was okay to prune the whole thing is a question unanswered by owner Shannon. Instead, she chose to cut off service to us as she felt it was rude of us to ask. read more

We've been working with Plant People Northwest for about 1.5 years now. They come when they say they will, are responsive to emails, and truly care about maintaining the health of our yard. We worked with another landscaper who completely butchered our bushes and sheared them beyond their natural shape. Plant People has helped us care for them in the specific ways they need, making sure to keep their natural shape and using safe soil and fertilizers. I agree with a few other reviews below that the $55/hr cost and minimum commitments add up over time. We've also had a lot of back and forth about the cost of taking items to the dump vs. putting them in our compost bin. But overall we appreciate the care they show our plants and reliability, so we plan to continue working with them and would recommend them. read more

We have had 4 yard maintenance companies in the last 10 years and while no company has been perfect the Plant people come pretty darn close. We have been working with them a little over a year now. I think we appreciate the mutual and direct communication we have with them the most after some pretty bad experiences with other companies. Also appreciate the reliability-- they come when they say they are going to be there and if they don't complete what we agreed to, they follow up saying why and when they will be back. My husband and I went to Home Depot last month and bought a bunch of shiny new gardening tools. Together, we spent about 4 frustrating hours in the yard before deciding we didn't know what the hell we were doing and proceeded to sit our butts on the sofa and google local gardening companies. After doing some research, we went with Plant People because they have so many 5-star reviews and they genuinely seem like nice folk. 'Twas a good decision. Their crew came out last week and went to town on the weeds, pruned our ancient rhodies, took out a stump, removed some overgrown bushes, and then tidied up with some mulch and bark...basically, they made our yard look amazeballs for the first time in years. Plant People NW is an excellent company to hire for your garden design and maintenance needs. I found Shannon Stephens and her team communicative, cheerful, knowledgeable and easy to work with as they team implemented the garden design plan. I have wanted a nice landscape for a very long time. My front yard is 50 feet long and not quite 20 feet deep. It's an oddly shaped space. Shannon did an excellent job of enhancing the garden design. I highly recommend Plant People. They are respectful of the environment and I love that I have more birds showing up in my garden. I think some of the plants Shannon chose for us have something to do with the birds coming. The Plant People team was always prompt, answered all my questions and left my yard/landscape neat and well-tended. In addition to improving the garden design, Shannon had the soil amended, installed irrigation, moved plants when necessary, installed all new plants and mulched. In addition, they did some pruning and installed a bluestone path. Hire them. They are capable, and reasonably priced. Shannon was very knowledgeable, patient, helpful and respectful. I searched around for a few years for someone who could really help me with my very shady woodland garden without taking it over. I actually like gardening and don't mind getting dirty, but my time is limited and my amateur knowledge can only get me so far. So I started looking for someone who I felt like would be a good consultant and partner on my yard. Not only did I want someone who could do the major work, I wanted someone who I could learn from. I'm glad I found Shannon, when she was a one-woman, one-truck operation. She is in this business because she loves it! She literally taught me how to prune... we spent our first visit actively working in my garden, and she showed me the proper way to prune a shrub/maple, and then coached me through the process. She promptly produced a recommended list of plants (with pictures) and thoroughly explained her reasoning. Shannon is very flexible; after she had devised a garden plan for me, she revised her garden design to incorporate plants & trees that I suddenly wanted to rescue from a neighbor's lot (that was being torn apart for construction). She has an encyclopedic knowledge of botany that comes from her true love of the subject. Shannon is very responsive and always provides a thorough reply. We recently moved to Seattle and have been fortunate to find a house we could afford AND which has an amazing backyard with a variety of mature trees, shrubs and other assorted plants along with a nice patio and deck. In addition we have front and side yards which are essentially strips of varieties of mature trees in a rock garden running alongside the house and then a double driveway. While we loved what is already here, it's all quite overgrown and in need of "radical renovation". Also, we wanted to swap out some of the trees for other plants. After scheduling an appointment with PPNW, Tony came out to take a look and give an estimate. The cost was very reasonable for the amount of work we needed done. When the crew arrived they checked in with us about what they were planning to do and asked us for any special instructions. It was instantly apparent that they all had real expertise in horticulture as well as landscaping. They got to work and were very efficient. As they proceeded with our plan they periodically checked with us about how things were shaping up and if we wanted any specific pruning adjustments. This phase of our landscape plan was completed in 2 days. The transformation was jaw dropping - exceeded our expectations. We will continue to engage their services for further landscaping work in the Spring but also to install a drip system as well as some hardscaping (walkways, elevated planter beds, etc).
