SSL was great to work with -- they dug up a bunch of sod in our yard, ground down a few stumps, hauled in 10 yards of compost, and helped plant a few trees. Their quote was reasonable and the work was completed on time.

Find someone else. So updating the review. This business quickly went downhill during the pandemic but since then it's been epically bad. I had hope when the ownership changed that we will get better service again. It has gotten worse, from the work (not) being done, to the awful customer service. When they came to my home last fall we had a conversation about the things I'd like to see done for this year. New clover- they charged us for it but never actually planted any . A vegetable garden we asked for multiple- never done. Junk trees removed for view? Done but only after I had to ask for it to be done 4 times beyond the initial ask and reminder. This is the worst our yard has EVER looked. There has been no maintenance beyond lawn mowing-we have video. Plants haven't been trimmed, there are weeds everywhere, blackberry invading. They told us and charged us for coming out to get the sprinkler system set up...turns out they didn't do that either. We have lost a lot of plants because of it. AND because they didn't check things like they said they would? A line ruptured and now we are facing down a massive water bill and water damage.

Pruned so the buds which came out last fall were removed.

We used Jeff's services for well over a year. His people barely knew what they were doing and often made authoritative statements about gardening subjects which were frankly made up. They seemed to leave a tool every time they came. Most of the time they could follow simple instructions but every once in a while they would do something wrong. Jeff met with my wife once to try to improve things and at the time he admitted they were doing a lousy job. The final straw came when my wife gave them very specific instructions on pruning our hydrangea. They then proceeded to prune them below the correct place, resulting in zero blossoms this year. After we told Jeff we no longer wanted his service, he complained that we hadn't let him know about the problems. It's like he expected us to supervise them instead of him. He never came by or asked how things were going. Later he tried to tell us they had done it right, but of course you can see in the picture no buds. I eventually paid him the last $90 we owed him, although honestly I think he ought to have given up in embarrassment. If you want a service where the owner is hands off and who will push back when he should be apologizing, this is it. Picture of the hydrangea 6 months later - everything else is budding out, nothing to see here!

This has been my favorite home improvement project. This company literally made me a yard where there previously was overgrowth, concrete, large stumps and rocks. They were able to complete the project on time and their cost was much more reasonable than others I interviewed. The project lead Fernando was hard working and communicative. The owner Chris (and Jeff previously) as well as the GM David all stayed in touch throughout the project. I would definitely use them for other projects in the future.

There were a few areas where I didn't want plants disturbed and they totally honored that. The price was very fair and I'm so glad I hired them for my job. I now have a beautiful vegetable garden where raccoons once roamed and rolled my lawn searching for grubs. And, p.s. communication was excellent.

We hired Lee's General Landscaping to do a total yard cleanup + clear a bunch of plants and…read moreinvasive species from our perimeter, then add medium bark to suppress regrowth. Our assigned estimator Kimball came by for the initial walk through on July 3rd. We walked the property and I pointed out areas that we wanted cleared and bark added to suppress new growth. He left us with a video of him walking the property and shortly thereafter we had an estimate. My wife and I reviewed it, and wanted to see what it would cost to add landscaping fabric and rocks to some of the areas on the initial estimate. I responded to Kimball and he asked for a Google image of the home with the areas we wanted the work done marked. I then sent him the requested materials via a color coded aerial image. Kimball then asked to come out for a second look to make sure his measurements were correct. I was unable to accompany him for that walk, but he did do the checkup. We had a second open ended estimate shortly thereafter showing what the added rocks and fabric would run per square yard. We then decided on just doing bark (simplest install) - no landscaping fabric or rocks, but in all of the same areas marked on the aerial photo. To be doubly safe, I sent him a second aerial photo marking where we wanted the bark. Kimball's final estimate included a breakdown of what 4 yards, 6 yards, 8 yards or 10 yards bark would cost to procure and install. He told me that they would start at 6 yards with our property per his assessment, and if more were needed, they would request the additional amount day of the job. 7/25/26. The day of the job. Lee's arrived, I walked the grounds with the foreman and they got to work. Late in the day, I got a call from Kimball saying that the 6 cubic yards of bark he'd ordered wasn't enough to cover everything and that they needed another 2 cubic yards to the tune of several hundred dollars to complete all areas we wanted covered. I agreed to the up charge and Lee's crew completed the job. About 10 days went by, and our very nice looking yard started to sprout weeds all over the place. Naturally, I was expecting to see obvious weed growth here and there pop up, but this seemed like a lot. Regardless, I got to work pulling the weeds every 3-4 days or so, added some more bagged bark I purchased from Carpenitos here and there, and as I tackled each section of the yard on various days. Then, they exploded. By the 6th week, we were overrun and I couldn't keep up. I did some checking, and found that for successful weed suppression, you need at least 3-4 inches of bark coverage to prevent light from reaching the newly cleared topsoil. Lee's quote stated they they lay down "at least 2-3 inches" of bark - not the gold standard 3-4 inches, but fairly adequate. So, I got out there with a yardstick and started measuring. Low and behold, most of the front and back yard had as little as 1/2 an inch to 1.5 inches bark coverage. The areas I'd hit with bags as I weeded were barely pushing 2 inches, which means they too were initially VERY thin. I then photo'd the explosion of overgrowth and sent it to Lee's general email with a concerned message attached. Kimball replied to the message, but he refused to acknowledge any error had been made on his part or Lees in terms of the estimated coverage vs. completed work. Ultimately, he refused to remedy the situation without charging us thousands of dollars more. We went back and forth multiple times via email, and he would not budge - not even to cover labor only to rake back, and remove the overgrowth. He also refused to connect me to a senior manager or owner - eg: a 3rd party in the company whom could objectively review the situation, stating that he was a manager and partial owner and in charge of our estimate. We were charged over $3200.00 after tax for the job. It will likely cost us thousands of additional dollars to remedy the overgrowth resultant of Lee's error, and for which they refuse to acknowledge or accept responsibility. I'm personally kinda shocked considering their reputation and long standing place in the community. We used their services for lawn mowing and occasional yard work in Seattle many years ago without issue. My how times have changed.

Vans Landscape to the rescue! Summarizing for those that…read moredon't like to read a lot - My experience with Van and his team were great! Van was clear in communication - we accomplished a lot via text messaging; they were fast in execution and implementation and amazing in clean up. I can easily, and heartily, recommend and refer Vans Landscape (vanslandscape.org)! About my tag line - I'm not exaggerating when I lead with 'to the rescue', let me provide some details for context ... I'd previously hired a different landscaping service to do some fairly major change, cleanup and renovation work for my small space. In the end, that other landscaper's description of the work, including rendered images of what the finished product was to look like - did NOT match the result. Enter the home owner's association ... where they reminded me that what they approved and what they saw - wasn't the same. Yeah - it was so bad that multiple neighbors and the HOA 'expressed concern'. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed, discouraged, disappointed. I'd just moved into my space a couple of months ago, all the hope and optimism that comes from moving into a new space, being a new home owner and looking to fit into the community. Yikes! How much would a correction cost me? Could I trust another landscaping service? How long would it take? How much would I be fined by the HOA? I took a couple of days to organize my thoughts, and began the search for another landscaping service and came across Vans Landscape. Van scheduled a time to visit my space. He patiently listened to my situation while we walked my small property. He kindly and respectfully offered some alternative suggestions. I had been so distracted by my disappointment and frustration with the situation, that Van's suggestions 'cut through' - they are much better looking and functioning solutions. Thank you, Van - I am grateful! In the end, I'm proud of how things now look. My small rock front yard has a clean, low and gradual, retaining wall that goes up the street, an extended retaining wall along a shared property line and some new arborvitae for privacy in my back patio - resolving concerns and issues for the front and giving me some privacy on my back patio! My neighbors have remarked that 'It (the retaining wall) is beautiful', 'Looks so much better', and 'Should we add them to the list for the HOA?' (Yes!) It may sound silly, but I did feel 'rescued' - someone helped me when I genuinely needed it; resolving my real issues, improving curb appeal, and resolving my neighbors and HOA concerns. My future plans include Van's ... When I'm done, and with HOA approval, I'll be asking Van to give me an estimate on my ideas. Again, my experience with Van and his team were great. I easily recommend and refer Vans Landscape (vanslandscape.org)** for your next project or for landscape maintenance as their attention and commitment to detail was made clear. **Yeah - I listed the site as there's a few Van's Landscape sites out there; I want you to have the one I used.

Their quote was fair and competitive -- ultimately I decided to move forward with someone who came directly recommended by a friend, but Van's pricing was absolutely in line with the market and within about $100 of my lowest quote out of five different providers I interviewed. The scope included a full spring cleanup of a heavily overgrown yard, including mowing, pruning, weeding, pressure washing, bark installation, and repairing a distressed gravel pathway. Their pricing was very much on par with the other companies I met - for that large service, as well as ongoing bi-weekly yard care. They were on time, responsive via text when confirming the verbal quote and providing additional pricing details, and overall very kind, transparent, and fair throughout the process. Even though I went a different direction for this particular project, I would absolutely feel comfortable recommending them in the future. The experience was easy, professional, and very competitively priced.
