Your tour starts at the Astor Bridge Tender's house, which was built in 1926. It is one of the last existing bridge tenders homes in Florida. The the home was for families who operated the bridges swing span, to allow river traffic along the St. John's river to pass. The move of the structure to the settlement happened in the early 1980s. Including the Astor Bridge Home, there are 22 unique stops along the way. Each rich and its own way, full of history. So I could go on and on, or you could go and see for yourself! It honestly was so fun to see everything and read about everything. Since we were there for the wings of the west the day we came, my son and I plan on going back and making a full day of walking around the settlement. Appreciating it more thoroughly, taking it more slowly in. It was that great! Thank you, Barberville Pioneer settlement for all the rich history and for supporting the wonderful wings of the West!

This place isn't climate controlled or anything like that, so it's a good idea to cover up your things so they won't get moldy. You obviously have to pay for your storage unit every month, but they will work with you if needed. They aren't trying to get rid of your stuff or throw you out the second the 1st of the month passes like the bigger storage companies do. It is located in the Ormond be the Sea area, so it is very convenient if you live there. It is a bit difficult to get a unit because it is so convenient, but they will put you on a list & let you know if one becomes available. That's what I had to do. The building is not climate controlled, but it is under shopping & restaurants, so it doesn't get as bad as you'd think in the heat of summer. They also turn on a humidifier when it's needed. I haven't had any issues with my things being close to the ocean climate. No melting, no rust & no mold. There is a bathroom available for you to use. They have dollies & a hand truck if you need to borrow them. You can also call ahead & they will open your main door for you before you get there if you don't wish to go in the office when you get there. Which is what I always do.

This is a great resource for foster parents or anyone who could use a bit of help. Doesn't everybody need a boost up every once in a while? Come volunteer or drop off your gently used clothing. In the near future Parkview will also be moving their free food bank to this location.There is a cute little play area for the kids so parents can choose clothes while the kids play. Everything was arranged by the VFW to honor my Dad's service to his country on his 100th Birthday. My family and I will be forever grateful for the Color Guard and ceremony ending in the presentation of the American Flag. Cons: Way too many games; they start at 5:30 and it does not end until 10. 4 1/2 hours of sitting on hard plastic folding chairs with one 10 min break. The callers are way too slow so we became very bored.
