General Sheet Metal is absolutely outstanding! I needed to get a piece of 28-gauge stainless steel…read morecut and bent to cover the wall under my range hood where a combination microwave / range hood had previously been installed. While this would seem like something that ANY sheet metal shop should be able to do, NONE of the shops I contacted in Vancouver could do it, nor could any of the business they recommended.
I called General based on a recommendation from a family friend, and I'm very happy that I did! The employee who answered the phone was extremely polite and helpful, and transferred me to the fabrication department. I spoke with Jeff, and described to him what I wanted. He said, "Sure, we can do that", and advised that it would only take about an hour, adding that they may not be able to do it while I wait, but that they'd get it done right away if I dropped it off to them.
When I arrived to get the work done, the employee at the front desk escorted me to the fabrication department to talk with Jeff. This gave me a good view of the shop, and I was extremely impressed with how clean it was, how huge it was, and how modern and high-tech the equipment was. I was also impressed with how quiet it was! Safety was clearly demonstrated everywhere, with signage, barricades, etc.
I met with Jeff and showed him my crude drawing of what I was looking for. He advised that they probably couldn't do the very short 90-degree bends that I'd wanted, and suggested doing two much shallower bends to create a sloping angled surface. I liked that suggestion far better than my idea, so we went with that.
I received a call the next day from another very friendly and helpful employee advising that the work was done, and that I could come by and pick it up at any time. I did so the very next day, and the results are PERFECT!!! The work was completed with 100% accuracy, and the end result looks FAR better than I hoped.
Without exception, everybody that I dealt with at General, from the front desk, to fabrication, to accounting, was supremely helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to work with. They did the job completely, accurately, and exactly as desired, and they did so very quickly and at a very reasonable price (labor only, since I brought them the stock). I'm extremely happy with the end result, and hope that I need more metal work done in the future, so I have a reason to return to General Sheet Metal.
