Their store credit policy is predatory. It's the same value as cash, there's no incentive to keep it in store. Store credit: expires. Store credit: can only be used if you keep up with your receipt and bring it back. Both of these practices are predatory and are in place to try and keep your items without having to actually pay you anything. I've never seen another thrift store utilize this technique. Take the cash! Don't donate without compensation for their profit, like they're trying to get you to do. read more

Do NOT waste your time in this chaotic resale shop! It's a NO!! My husband brought clothes in and was told they don't accept "plus size"" but they have men's' clothes that are 3X and larger. The shelves are messy and disorganized. Colors are t organized, sizes are misplaced and Mismarked. It's just not worth going there! read more

As far as selling, I had to correct them and refer to THEIR policy, almost reminding them how to do their job as far as MATH.. and was given the amount I was owed after correcting them. Which was always a huge difference, so they're stealing from everyone and aren't doing a thing right. They're a joke as well as whoever owns that place. For example I brought them 4 brand new pairs of rayban sunglasses in the cases with tags and this little girl offered me $12! I did the math, showed her how to do the math, and what they owed me - which was $140 - and asked her to try that again. They go get a "manager" but they just walk to the back and come tell us a passed along message, the manager never comes out to do anything.. and when she didn't come solve a problem with a customer, I have never in my life witnessed a manager blatantly ignore an issue, and not even show their face. She went back several times to ask her several questions, at this point I ask why doesn't she just come out here herself?! Like are you serious? It was a joke. She ended up giving me $140 because of the policy because I was right, but looked like she was malfunctioning when I was explaining basic math and her policy to her. When the manger should be dong that, to a girl who's worked there for MONTHS. They accuse people of stealing but steal your clothes and at the end of the day, rob you of money they owe you for what they take. They go by personal opinion, NOT a system. The store always looks messy and dirty. The display window is a joke.. a group of entitled, lazy, bratty air heads with no basic knowledge of retail, buying/selling, merchandising, mathematics, structure, and severely lack the effort, customer service or and interpersonal skills, . As for buying, stuff is priced all over the place and they'll accuse you of stealing if you're in there too long. I'm not new to buying and selling clothing. I have several online stores where I resale new and pre owned clothes, shoes and Designer purses. I have recently started selling my things locally and thought I would give Plato's Closet a shot because I've been buying from them since they opened. When I brought my items in I initially went into Style Encore thinking it was Plato's, because they are open to one another. At Encore i was told I would have to wait because the buyer was not there, once the buyer/manager arrived she said she could only give me store credit because they didn't have any cash, so that's when I walked over to Plato's. After about 45 mins the "buyer" told me that out of my 2 containers of clothing and shoes they could only purchase 2 things, she said it was due to wear and tear, 90% of the clothing and shoes I brought in still had tags on them and have never been worn and have been kept in garment bags, when I pointed that out she then said the clothing labels were outdated, then offered me $6.50 for 2 denim Hollister jackets that were clearly brand new and with tags, I get that I'm not going to get back what I paid, I declined and took them with me. The out dated labels, were all current styles and were American Eagle, Free People, SOHO, Micheal Kors, Abercombie and Fitch, Gap, she informed me that those labels didn't appeal to teens, well I wasn't aware that Plato's was a teen store and that fashion is only a "name brand" and if that's the case they need to go look through their inventory because they have plenty of cheap labels which include Wal-Mart and Target and plenty of outdated and old clothing. The "buyer" which has no real training in buying anything is stuck in a box, I was insulted and did not have a great experience. Walked in to kill time while waiting on my man at the eye doctor next door. As soon as I walked in, a very rude employee says to me "Sorry ma'am, we don't sell or accept plus size clothing here." ....Okay, number one, thanks for that blow to my self-esteem. Number two, what if i wasn't even shopping for myself? This is just something you should never say to any customer. Don't bother going here if you can't fit into a small or medium, or all of the employees will just rudely stare at you with a snooty look on their face. Brought over 30 items of name brand clothing, in good shape and was told they would only accept 2 items. (these items were my daughter's from college) I was surprised since the clothes I brought in with me were in style and fashionable. The guy tells me that all of the others were too worn... really? you must be kidding.. There were no stains, tears, etc. I looked through stuff in the store and the clothing was not very nice, not even as nice as the items I brought in. I must agree with the other reviews on this page.... employees were not very friendly, i brought in several several nice and trendy pieces of clothing and were told they wouldn't except them without an explanation even when i asked?? Hmm. as i looked around, i found items in there that were not in quite as nice shape as mine.... just didnt get it? I was offered very very little for the 5 items they did decide to keep of my 4 trips with clothing.... I DO understand that it's a place to buy " gently used items at an affordable price " but still kinda stinks that i was like others im sure, only offered very little for what i brought in. Example. I was offered $8 for a pair of very nice miss me jeans and they are sold for like $30 or so there. but ok whatever. Not many worries anymore, I may try to stop back in and give them another chance. read more

I was the first person through the door one morning as I had been waiting for 15 minutes. I got there early to be served first. I got out of my car with my bags and waited outside their front door. When they opened the clerk said I will help the first one waiting so I moved toward the counter. A voice behind me said we were here first we were waiting in our car before she arrived. So the clerk helped them first. How dumb. Why ask who was first when clearly I was the first one in their door. What happened to helping the first person IN LINE!!! I left and took my clothes to the Womens shelter. If you want to shop second hand, visit Act Ii instead of Platos closet. And if you want to help your community, donate your clothes. read more

My girlfriend went in to try and sell American Eagle jeans. The jeans were in good condition but were used, the store buys used clothes. She had them in a nice bag (not a trash bag, grocery bag, or anything like that) and they were folded. They asked her is they were worn and told her they don't take worn stuff, they prefer new stuff. They also went as far as to say she was unorganized and the way she brought in the jeans was untidy. She also had a tank top, which they bought for 90 cents, but she said she wanted the tank top back. They told her it was to late and they took the tank top anyway and gave her 90 cents. She remained calm and told them to have a good day, to which they did not respond. So whoever is working on the morning of 5/11/17 you should be ashamed of yourself for treating people in this manner. Platos closet should be concerned on how their employees are treating people, because I can promise this isn't the first time this has happened. read more
