This place just isn't up to par with the customer service you'd get used to visiting other stores like Rochester Hills Plato's. This is surprising because of the constant social media posts keeping you up to date with the new inventory and offers to hold these items.
I was not greeted when I entered the store yesterday afternoon, not even a look. I spent 20 minutes trying desperately to reach the purses on the high shelf right next to the register with two small children in tow while the attendants watched and didn't bother to offer to lend a hand. I eventually gave up. This was also the very first time I ever visited a Plato's where I trudged around the store with heavy arms full of clothing, shoes and jackets and none of the employees saw my struggle and offered to hold the items at the register until I was ready to buy or try them on. This was very odd because there was a girl with a high ponytail that walked around the store and was constantly "checking things" or putting things away right next to me and she never offered a hand and I couldn't get her attention to save my life. When it came time to get a fitting room, I literally had to wait until someone was done with theirs and take it because I would never have gotten help. Is it because I am 37, maybe seemingly too old to shop at Plato's? I assure you, I am not. Wearing a size zero plus having four small kids in total means that teen resale shopping is really my only option for a quick and affordable experience with clothes small enough for my frame in what I hope to be the latest styles. If I was profiled for this, you may want to rethink that because most older more established folks have the cash to spend more than what a teen would. The most irritating part was some guy walked in to sell a little grocery bag full of items and he was IMMEDIATELY greeted and helped. What?!? The last time I was in this location, two people were in there trying to sell a pair of Jordan's that I could tell they refused for counterfeit. I watched as the pair dumped the fake shoes in a shopping cart as a pull away after their refusal. You'd think legit buyers would get more assistance.
If you ask at this store where they keep the Lululemon, they will look at you with a puzzled face and point to the worn and out to date large active ware section and say "if we have any, it's over there..." When a customer asks for what would basically be the most expensive ticket items in your store like this, you'd think the employee would be looking it up on the computer and helping you find it to raise the ticket dollar for the day but that won't happen here. On the contrary - the R Hills store not only keeps the Lululemon in special bins behind the counter, but they have pretty good knowledge of what they have and what size and actually help you go through the bins, quickly pulling out every item in your size and promptly offering a fitting room.
Then there was the final straw, discounts. When you have customers that are quite obviously regulars, other Plato's will go to every end to try and offer you discounts for you to save on your purchase. This ensures repeat business. Don't count on that here either. The morning before I left, I tried searching what I know might be a text or email with discount offers from Plato's before my visit. I know during my last visit to the Rochester Hills store, I had a 20% off, $5 off and $10 off to choose from in my rewards account but it's hard to locate these things without being in the store now that there is no physical punchcard to look at in my wallet. The R Hills store had another promo running that day for 20% off and told me to save my other discounts. To my surprise, when the employee begrudgingly assisted me in pulling up my rewards account, she claimed I had no discounts available which I knew was impossible. She was annoyed at my polite rebuttal and I gave up trying and paid full price for my giant pile of much needed items and left the store. As soon as I got home, I managed to locate the text messages containing my not expires discounts, one of them being a 15% off they were offering to anyone with a rewards account until 2/22 that she really could have offered me.
I am done with this location. Done. I realize that mostly teens run these stores and that is likely the source of the issues. I'm sure it's hard to find older adults with real customer service skills to work this type of retail in a teen shop, but geez, this is a chain where some training should be offered and some pride in the store. I've never had a good experience here in the almost two years I've lived up here. I really hate that moving to Genesee county has been mostly poor experiences in shopping and dining. This place helps with that bad name. read more
