I drove all the way to your store to sell my items, only to find out after arriving that buying is only done Monday through Friday. The only notice was a sign on the door after I got there. Many people work during the week, so limiting buying to weekdays is a huge inconvenience. This business will NEVER see me again. I'll start this review off by saying, I have sold clothes at Plato's Closet in 3 states over several years and never in my life have I had an experience like I had at this one. I first reached out by phone on a Saturday to see if the location was buying and was told that they would not be buying until Monday at 10am when they opened. I came on Monday at 11:30am and the staff informed me that they had taken all they would buy for the day and I could come back the next day. I came back the next day at 10am, there was a line of 8 people and the doors did not open until 10:07am. All of us in line were given a number and while I had my items neatly packed in a unique decorative bag, I was told my items would only be accepted in a tote or basket and that I could purchase one next door. I dropped off my items and went to work. The staff reached out to me to come get my items around 1:30pm and again at 2:30pm. When I answered the phone, I was told I had to be there to pickup my items by 3/3:30pm (even though the store closed at 8pm) or else they would pass on all my items and I'd have to come back the following day. These policies and procedures were not shared at dropoff or posted in the store. I was offered a price without being shown the items they bought and when I requested to see the items, one of the staff members not assisting me stated to me, "most of the items were dirty or not in style" and my items were not dirty. Her comment was unnecessary and very rude. They set our items in front of the counter and my bag was present, but not the basket I was made to purchase. The entire experience was awful and the staff was not very helpful or apologetic. I usually never feel strongly enough about a bad experience to write something to this extent but I had to. I'm in disbelief with the experience I've had trying to sell clothes at this location. I've learned that they stay busy because it's the only location in Louisville, so I gave them grace the first time I arrived and they turned me away because they were already done buying by noon. On my 2nd attempt I followed instructions to arrive early but made sure to call as I was on my way there to ensure I wouldn't be turned away however I didn't know they only accepted plastic containers and she specified that on the phone. I asked and the woman on the phone specifically told plastic laundry baskets were acceptable. So I went back home, put everything in a plastic laundry basket and waited for today. Today I arrived early hoping 3rd try would work out. I walked in to make sure they were buying before bringing in my baskets. 3 women were at the front. I was speaking to 1 who said they were buying as long as items were in the same kind of plastic storage container she pointed at in front of her. I explained how I'd been told differently and that I've had a really poor experience so far with trying to sell to them in hopes she'd understand, possibly make an exception this 1 time or at least be empathetic. While trying to explain just for the sake of them to put themselves in the customer's shoes, she kept interrupting pointing to the sign on their door. I was direct but remained calm until the woman repeated the same thing for a 3rd time that they have a sign on the door explaining the plastic tote. I explained I understand that but when I've arrived and called in speaking to different people I've been told differently things. There's several notes on that door. I don't pay attention to notes on business doors unless I'm looking for business hours. As I'm sure many others do the same. At this point it's more a matter of the customer experience. So I continued to explain to her in hopes that they can help ensure other customers don't have my same experience. That their staff needs to get in the same page for the sake of the customers. I was obviously upset but still kind as I left. After turning around and walking out one of the women yelled "bye!" In a rude tone. I turned around and said bye back and told them to do better. Then as I turned back around to leave again, one yelled "don't come back!" So I turned around again and confirmed I would not return because I've had a very poor experience with them as I had already explained. This is unreal. SO rude and awful. I'm a very humble and understanding person, I can understand a bad day but this is not that. It's a shame the owner and corporate allow this behavior from their staff. This entire interaction would be on your cameras if you care to verify. That snippet of my interaction is the exact opposite of what any company should be allowing or promoting from their staff. I guarantee the higher ups and CEO wouldn't be pleased to witness that interaction. Editing to add: after I left I called the Clarksville, IN location to ask if they were buying and the woman who answered was very kind and quickly explained that they're busy but still buying, first come first served & they only accept 1 plastic storage container of clothes per vehicle. Now that's professional and efficient customer service!! The expectations were clear. So I'll go there tomorrow morning prepared per their expectation. But I will never return to the Louisville location to sell or buy! read more

There is one girl that works at this particular location. She is absolutely disgusting to guests. One time I came in and I had a terrible experience with her, but I decided to try again and again today. She acted the same. I simply asked her if they had any aviator nation. This place has since moved to a new location on Outer Loop across the street from where it used to be next to Walgreens. It is now located behind Tumbleweed on Outer Loop. The new location is bigger with more space. The old location was getting too cluttered and that's why I stopped going to the old location. I of course had to go when I had learned that they moved. I was very impressed with the layout of the store. You don't feel crowded in there and actually have room to move around. But, you have to social distance of course (COVID-19). And the flooring looks so much better here. I didn't snag pics this visit but, anyone who been to the old location should give the new one a try. They do have stuff for both Men and Women alike. I typically always find something there at a bargain. Yes you can find some name brand stuff there at a bargain price because, it is second hand after all. My only kicker is that the handbag section did not offer a lot of selection and was quite small. The employees here are taking necessary COVID-19 precautions. They wear their masks and have plexiglass at the registers. I do intend on returning here, this store just simply impressed and for the right reasons. read more

The workers were so rude to me during both of my visits and a phone call. I came in the first time at 11 am and was told to come back on tuesday at 10am and they would buy my clothes. Local store on Outerloop. Recently remodeled strip mall. This store has been here for many years. The store is one of the smaller ones. They have clothing from the front door all the way to the back. They just have to much inventory. Most of the time I'm able to stop in and find at least a piece or two to add to my closet. This store is located right next to the thieves at Once Upon A Child and I believe they are owned by the same company. Plato's Closet is a decent place to find name brand teen clothes. They don't have any deals or finds that will blow your socks off, but the price isn't terrible. I would highly recommend just going up the road to A.J. Wright for a much better deal on new clothes. I would also have to say that if you have your heart set on Plato's Closet, the location on S. Hurstbourne Lane is the way to go (better selection and layout, slightly friendlier staff). My last piece of advice is don't even trouble yourself with bringing in clothes to sell unless the amount you get back isn't of major concern. And just like with Once Upon A Child, they will be sometimes rude and snotty, so prepare yourself (though they are not nearly as bad as OUAC). read more

I had never sold clothes before coming here. I had actually never been to a Plato's Closet. You bring clothes to sell in a tub or tote and put your name down at the front counter. Their criteria is not obviously worn, fashionable, in season, I believe. I guess I should also mention that I had no expectation, I went through what I did not wear in my closet and put it in a bin to donate. Because some of it was like-new I thought I would give this a try first. I also need a few items for my closet (colored cardigans, etc), so I thought I would browse. I was the first one there after they opened so my clothes were reviewed first, I waited about 20 minutes, but I spent the time browsing. I had to go up to the front (I heard they normally call your name) but it could be I was in the fitting room when she finished my clothes. Of my tub of maybe 50 pieces, they "bought" 15 and gave me $30. I guess proportion wise, that isn't a lot, but I will admit that there were some "worn" things in the bin and stuff I had never worn. I tell myself it's a better deal than a yard sale or than the donation write-off. If you buy at the same time, you save on sales tax as its considered a "trade." I found two items I liked, which happened to be on the clearance rack so I got two new things and $20 on stuff I had taken out of my closet. It was a win for me. I've since gone through my closet again because I had not even considered shoes or accessories I do not wear and I figure what is there is still new for me! Though it has been considerable time since the last reviews, the store seemed clean and well organized. One staff member was continuously organizing and arranging while the other was going through selling/buying. Overall, this was a great first experience for me. In terms of purchasing,most items are listed at $8, with some variation. There are also accessories for about $3 and a clearance rack in the middle. Shoes ranged from about $10-$30, with some more expensive tennis shoes ($50+). I think this is a neat set up for those who want fashionable items for less than retail price. read more

i went to this store this morning with two large bags of clothes. every time i've gone to a platos, i have dropped my stuff off and they texted me when it was done. i said "i can drop this off and come back, right?" the woman at the desk very rudely, and loudly said "Uh no you CANT" like i was too incompetent to understand english. i said "oh okay. i thought i could" - she relied "well WE DONT wanna be responsible for that stuff". i said "well i'll try to come back later", which she followed up with a "ByE". i called the Platos on hursbourne and taylorsville to see if i could drop off clothes there, because i thought maybe their policy changed. they said i could. so i drove my stuff there and they were a lot nicer and sent me a text that my stuff was finished about 45 minutes later. so i'm not sure if it's that stores policy or if the woman just didn't feel like working. regardless, there was no need to treat a customer so rudely. i won't be going back to that Platos location, and i suggest you don't either. read more

This Plato's Closet needs to hire better people or shut their doors for GOOD!!! We took 6 bags of nice, name brand clothes there and they said they were just doing drop off and they would call when they went through everything. About and hour later they called and said the stuff was ready for pick-up, so we get there and they said the bags were "too messy" to go through, however they hadn't even opened one bag. Then had to make multiple trips to our car in the rain to take it back. REALLY people, too lazy to even do your job!!! I will never go tot his store again. These girls need better training with human interaction, they need to quit smoking in front of the store. And when you didn't buy from a customer and the customer asks where a pair of jeans are... My point is I had five huge garbage bags full it would have been east to misplace them and I had to leave the clothes there over night because they sorted them so close to closing, and a totally different person was working when I came in to get my $100... So then I'm sitting there with my son bagging my stuff back up for about a half an hour, and I said "just some advice if you're going to go through somebody's clothes and take them out of the containers they provide, and then accuse me of accusing y'all of taking my jeans the least you could do is help bag them up."
