I've noticed this shop before but didn't get the chance to stop in until today. It's a second-hand shop with lots of vintage stuff! You can even rent costumes here! Yay! I was impressed with the selection of stuff. They grouped stuff by years: 50s, 60s, 70s, etc. You can find all kinds of things here! Leather pants, Christmas sweaters, masquerade stuff, jewelry, shoes, wigs, Mascot heads, and more. They've got women's stuff downstairs and men's upstairs. You can also find kids stuff upstairs. I didn't feel like prices were all that bad. Some stuff seemed expensive and some stuff seemed cheap. It just depends. The staff member was super nice and helpful. You can also try stuff on if you need to.

Almost 20 years since opening Nitty Gritty continues to offer unique finds by the decades, including costume rentals. The first floor is women's and second floor is men's. The bulk of the items are clothing but the store also offers accessories, shoes, purses, hats, suitcases, travel bags, kitchen decor and home decor. A few Playboys are even tucked away on the shelf. The items are fun and in good shape. Most are fairly priced especially for something unique. Just looking at things took me way back and made me smile. My only issue is the women's clothing is mainly small and medium, which I am not. I'd assume this is the same for costumes. So, not a good place for me personally but I have to give the store credit for what it offers to others.

Nitty Gritty has become the go-to place if you are looking for a specific genre of vintage clothes. 70s disco? 80s glam? Square dancer? Flapper girl? Poodle skirt? And just plain hipster vintage awesomeness? The Nitty Gritty has the nitty gritty -- I see what they did there -- of putting your desired look together. And it's not just for the ladies. The Nitty Gritty keeps the fellas in mind as well. Plus, I'm very excited that they are doing more with costume rentals, having recently acquired several outfits from another costume shop that went out of business. I was in need of a circus ringleader outfit for an event -- ya know, as one does from time to time. The owner was able to outfit me with a glittery gold top hat and a red marching band jacket that adequately served double-duty. And since these pieces are truly vintage, that means they weren't the cheap, polyester, likely highly flammable items that you get if you go to a new costume store. I paid about $35 for a one day rental, which didn't break the bank. Nitty Gritty also has vintage pieces that you can buy. I've perused from time to time. The only negative I've found is that it can be hard to find items in anything but size small, but I know this is difficult with vintage pieces in general. And the owner and staff have always been the epitome of helpful and kind, taking time to go through pieces with you and search for just the right piece. Nitty Gritty is impeccably clean and organized, making it easy to peruse all that they have for a particular look or time period, and has accessories, shoes, costume bits (like gloves and ties) and other goodies mixed in. Whether you want to buy or just browse, Nitty Gritty is a fun trip to make.

This is a true vintage store - not one where you will find used clothes bought from Target four years ago (not that there is anything wrong with that either).

My first and only complaint about the place was that it was hard for me to find. It sits on the corner with a couple of other buildings and it's a very busy area and their signage was not clear to me so I passed it a couple of times before realizing exactly where it was. It wasn't immediately apparent that there was parking in the back either. Once we figured that out, it's all good from there. Magnolia & Fig provides a light and pleasant space to shop for clothing, accessories, and other knickknacks. We were greeted warmly by the attendant, and she gives us the option to browse or asked us if we were looking for something specific. Once we told her what my friend was looking for and her size, the attendant got right to work, pulling dresses for her to try from the racks. We were brought eight or 10 different dresses to try in a small but nicely decorated fitting area. The two employees worked together to bring us outfits to try, giving us space and time to try each one, but giving opinions and thoughts, when asked to. They were very kind patient and efficient. They were sensitive to the needs of my friend as related to her disability without talking down to her or making her feel out of place. It was a very positive experience and we found the perfect dress for my friend's event. In the store, you will find lots of ladies clothing options in addition to some jewelry, hats, shoes and even pretty things for the home. I think my friend paid about $150 for the gorgeous dress and the earrings that she purchased. We would both recommend Magnolia & Fig for a fun boutique experience and a nice selection of clothing to choose from.

The first time I went I didn't have a ton of time to shop; however, it just so happened to be a Sip & Shop day and you could put your name in for prizes. Well fast forward a little and I got a message that I won a $100 gift card. Yeah me! So I went back to make find some more cute things. The store is so cute. If you're a girls girl you'll love it I promise. The staff are so friendly & helpful, but, don't give off stalker vibes. I hate that!!! So thank you for giving me space. Much appreciated. It's organized perfectly. Magnolia & Fig carries some unique brands of clothing, accessories & home decor. I chose a gorgeous summer dress, two bracelets and a necklace for my daughter. They have an awesome website to shop online and offer private shopping appointments. They're open Wednesday-Sunday. Check out their sales rack as well. I saw some great deals on cute dresses. I will definitely be going back & checking out more clothes & jewelry.

I had to pay $24 for the return which is Peppermint Palm's policy. I emailed Tracy explaining it wasn't so much the $24 but the PIA for the process of then having to order from a different store. We came by to purchase a dress for oaks and we walk in (we are the only ones in the store), the employee didn't even greet or welcome us when we walked in. It was kind of awkward because it was silent. We then remarked at the cutest derby purse and when we saw the price it we were shocked to see it was over $450 for a one day event. The employee remarks in a very stuck up snooty tone "well we have sold three". In a way like if we can't afford it then why even say it. I finally feel after visiting this store so much, it was time to finally leave a honest review. The owner and employees have never given us a good experience in last couple years in Louisville. I will stick with buying LP online at this point.
