Terrible. A friend told me about this place and I visited the website before I went. The website gave me the impression that items I brought in would be graded/ inspected by knowledgeable staff looking for quality brands. I brought in some of quality items in excellent condition but they only offered $20 for two pairs of sneakers and a brand new Michael Kors belt pouch. No offer for my DVF wrap dress or work slacks in excellent condition. My gripe doesn't end there. Unfortunately, the staff was young and everything felt rushed. One of my favorite spots for a bargain, I love resale stores and Plato's is top notch!

It seems that they are constantly NOT accepting clothes. I got on their mailing list after I purchased a few things. They send a text saying they are not accepting items this week. The store is organized for the most part. They have a rack by the dressing room of all the clothes that were tried on so you can always look there too. I took stars off because the cashier was so rude. I had a friend with me and she was just as rude to her. She acted like we were an inconvenience to her checking out. She just seemed so annoyed. We even took the clothes off the hangers to help her out.. no response. She just took the hangers from us and said nothing. Another worked asked if she needed help and she said no. Now the pricing was all over the place. My daughter got a few things that were a couple bucks but one pair of shorts was $16?!? So I don't know who priced those or how we missed that inside price spike. We don't plan to take anything there and not sure we would go back with the rude customer service. read more

By far the worst store I've experienced, I thought I'd try here one more time before I continue to drive out to Orlando. Washed, dried and folded all clothing and tucked them into a plastic bin and apparently they weren't washed hard enough for them. This Plato's is awful, I moved from Gainesville and love the Plato's in Gainesville but this is just insane they operate under the same name. The guy sorting through the clothes is extremely unfriendly and it took him 10 minutes to go through 2 full trash bags of clothes, aka they barely went through it. In Gainesville, when you drop off it's usually a 3 hour wait time because they properly go through everyone's items but this was a waste of time. In addition they provided no explanation for why they didn't buy my items, at the Gainesville Plato's they take the time to write down reasons why they couldn't buy and explain it to you, but this place is so sloppy and lazy. read more

Meh, they have a huge collection of stuff and shoes like crazy. So many shoes they are all around the store above the clothes. The shoes are separated by size only, which does make it easy to find what your looking quickly. The guys selection is pretty small compaired to the stores size. What's crazy is their prices. The store has unreal prices. Used men's jeans were! $40. I know they are Levi's but I can get them cheaper new at Sears! I posted a pic of a wall of shoes and pricing was crazy for quality. $55 for shoes that are worn and scuffed up is totally crazy. If you want to sell used Jordans for collector prices they need to be in collector quality. read more

Absolutely awful location. They only take clothing that is "in style" yet none of the clothing on their rack is "in style" according to their own guide sheet. The employees are rude and having been a platos customer at other locations for years, this location has to be the worst. From purchasing to selling. The lady rejected brand new shirts that are indeed "in style" (Henley's) and when I said something about it she shrugged. Ok. ONE STAR! UPDATE! Still awful. Again made sure to review the style guide which let me know button downs for men are accepted so I took about 10 button downs, a pair of designer jeans barely worn, and some shorts. My ticket said 10:33. I got my text alert at 10:38 saying she was completed and all they wanted were the jeans. Why Ashley? Because they only take American Eagle type button downs. I actually had an AE shirt in the bag and asked about it, she said too business casual. Umm. One. I don't think she took the proper time, 5 minutes with people in front of me. They wanted 5$ for the jeans but this location is just LAZY and I'm sure in snowball from lazy management. read more

First of all... go do yourself a favor and download the Curtsy app. You'll make more money for your clothes without wasting your time receiving rude comments from these store employees. I used to be a frequent customer here, however recently they have been incredibly rude and never seem to be accepting clothes (with no heads up). Then they want to act like it's your fault for bringing clothes when that's the name of the game. Came on here to see if I'm the only one running into this issue but it seems like this location is suffering in customer experience severely. Maybe someday they'll hire friendly staff that know how to smile, but as far as I would recommend, go give your business to local companies that actually appreciate it. read more

I have lived in melbourne my whole life, have shopped at this store my whole life, and have donated more then enough clothes. I also am a store manager at a retail establishment. With that being said, today i dropped off 2 huge trash bags full of clothing. I was curious to see what the process looked like so i sat in my car and watched the girl go through my clothing. When i say, that she grabbed handfuls of clothing, glanced at them and put them back in the trash bag, that is not an over exaggeration. She didn't even bother unfolding the items. There were American eagle jeans and h&m shirts in there WITH TAGS STILL ON THEM, NEVER WORN. she wouldn't have known though because like i said, she didn't even bother to unfold the clothing. When i got the text that she was finished, i walked in and asked her what the guidelines were for them taking clothes. i figured maybe they aren't taking floral, or jeans with holes in them etc. She told me that "there really was no guidelines, we just don't take clothes that are conditioned" ... so i asked to speak to the manager. When the manager walked up to me she seemed very intimidated like a deer in headlights. So i told her i really wasn't trying to come off as rude but i don't understand what the guidelines are to taking clothes because i have brand new pieces of clothes in there that have the tags still on them and also haven't even been worn before. She didn't say anything back. So i proceeded to tell her that i watched the girl go through my bags and she didn't even unfold the majority of my clothing. Then the girl that went through my clothing chipped in and said "like i said.. We didn't take clothing that was conditioned or worn" .. very confused because the whole point of Plato's closet is "chain retailer buying and selling trendy second hand clothing for teens and young adults". so you'd think that getting clothes with the tags still on them would be a good thing, right? I asked both of the girls if there was any way to contact a higher up, like a store manager or something and they told me the next person up are the owners. so i asked if there was any way to contact them and they had no answer for me. If I could give zero stars I would. They tried to buy Nike Roshes, Diamond Supply slides, a brand new hat and a sweater for $19. The Roshes themselves were worth more then half the stuff in there. This place was a HORRIBLE disappointment! I just moved here from Los Angeles and I had a lot of AMAZING things to sell/trade. I had high-end name brand jeans, dresses, and shirts (a total of 2 large boxes - again, ALL NAME BRAND.) Most of the items had tags on them and some of the clothes are not even in stores yet. Being in the fashion industry I had access to a lot of great clothes! To my shock, they didn't take ANYTHING! I asked why and she said, "Welcome to Melbourne where no one has any style" well, THIS WOULD INCLUDE THE ENTIRE STAFF! Saying the whole town doesn't like nice things is absurd! Everyone behind the counter was dressed like a total slob. I'm sorry, but it is a clothing store so maybe try and at least LOOK fashionable. If I owned this store I would be VERY upset to see my staff looking like they just rolled out of bed. As they looked through my clothes I wandered around to look for possible items I would want and everything was super cheap and out of style - old GAP, Forever 21, and other LOW END GARBAGE! I found ONE dress I liked and I turned it around to find it had a huge hole, a stain and reeked of body odor... really? No, REALLY? Although I was very disappointed and will NEVER be back I was kind to the staff and thanked them for their time. THEN, I got home and went to hang the items back up and they literally just shoved all the clothes back... a $189 NEW dress with tags just shoved into my box - very disrespectful. LATER, I took ALL my items to another consignment shop and they brought it ALL and asked if I had anything else to sell because she loved that some of the items had tags on them still and the rest were in mint condition. PLEASE hire people who know how to buy/trade/sell consignment items... this store is a sad, pathetic JOKE! Melbourne deserves better!! read more

This place is the worst. Depending on who's working, they might take your clothes or they might not. The clothes for sale are gross and terrible quality, so you'd think they'd welcome cute and fashionable things, but they seem to only want pre-teen clothing. After bringing in a bag FULL of brands that are listed as acceptable brands they buy I was thoroughly disappointed to find out they only took three things. One of which was a pair of Guess shorts that I purchased back in 2007. While waiting for my items to be looked at I browsed the store and found pieces that should have been sent to Goodwill. I'm writing this review to being a few observations into perspective. I have visited this location for years now since first discovering Plato's Closet about 2 years ago. I have always raved on about the prices, variety of desired clothing brands, and taste. My recent trips I've felt as though this location has seriously experienced a downfall in taste and organization. It's been quite a while since I've found the nice items I've looked to Plato's closet for in the past. This location really needs to take into consideration how this is affecting the guest experiences before they begin to loose new customers based on something that can be fixed. Consider lowering the amount of products collecting dust on the many shelves to make it easier to find the gems, and being a little pickier of the items the staff accepts. read more

Absolutely terrible. I brought brand new clothes in that had become too small for me. Most had tags. And they took TWO items. And completely low balled me. Brand name wallet!! Rude staff and bad attitudes! Browsed around and they had items that were in terrible condition!! My items were in way better condition.... They buy from who they like. And they don't have a wide selection for all ages and styles. They buy from young teens (no surprise the staff but what they would wear instead of appreciating all styles). Love this store. Visit often w/ both my teens and a few in tow. They live this store too! The staff is professional and very helpful. Store is always organized. Ive never seen the employees standing around talking to one another bc they are busy keeping the store together. Excellent choices for the area. I too consign periodically w/ them. I give a full bag and receive 1/2 back BUT they cant take everything! Ive consigned for yrs and this is typical if you've never consigned before. I used to drive to the Orlando Plato's so I was thrilled when this one opened. However, after visiting this location a few times.... I think I will continue to make the drive to Orlando. Their prices seem to be higher and they do not buy as much as my clothing. One visit they did not buy a single item and I felt that I was offering pretty decent clothing so I made the trip to the Orlando location and sure enough... they bought everything I brought in besides one t-shirt. read more

I had a bad experience here because I called before going and they said they would take the Mudd brand watch I had that was in extremely good condition. One of my biggest pet peeves is when I call and ask to make sure I'm not wasting gas money and then it back fires on me once I'm physically there. After they went through everything I was shocked to see that they didn't take the watch. I was surprised at what they did take instead; things that I just added to the bunch as extra to see if they would even consider. I received $4 and some change for a couple bracelets. Never returning here again and after reading countless other reviews I can see that I am not the only one who feels this way. They are horribly staffed with goth looking girls who wouldn't know what style was if it hit them in the face. They definitely need to be saved by a professional also because the place is way over stocked. At least half of the store should be at the goodwill due to stains, holes, and way too many scuff marks on some of the mens shoes to be selling for what they do. Don't waste your time going here because I am pretty sure they don't even look at everything you have to offer because they are still trying to sell their old clothes. read more

I was not thrilled with this place at all. We called before going and brought many items appropriate for teens and college students as they advised. So we packed up plenty of items some items may have been questionable as to the age appropriate demographics they were seeking. Many items were brand new in original boxes never worn. We were going to wait the 40 minutes that we were told it would take to review what we brought in. Received a phone call and quickly tended to a family emergency. We had to leave the family emergency because we were told if not back by 9pm we would not get the cash pay out. As time was getting close to 9pm we called again to advise of situation they advised us that they would not let us in even if we were only 5 to 10 minutes late and we would have to get store credit. One more call to them at which point they advised us out of all the very nice things we brought them that it was not worth rushing down anyway as they only accepted two items totaling $3.27. I was baffled as to them not even considering brand new name brand water proof hiking shoes with Vibram soles with original price tag still on box at $99.99. Not to mention all the other shoes brand new in box. We were not planning on getting rich from this trip but I spent over $10.00 in gas and to find out we were only getting such a small amount. We were also told if we did not pick up items in 2 days it was considered a donation to there store. I will go back to the store to pick up the items I dropped off and donate them to a good charity. So the items were not good enough for them to even give us a small amount for each item but they are good enough for them to take them from us at no cost and turn around and sell them. No Way I don't think so I will be back for my items but I will never shop there or bring anything to them again. i don't blame the staff as they are only as good as the management trains them. Also I did look around the store and seen many items that looked outdated and other items that showed they had been worn many times. One nice thing I can say is the store seemed clean and organized. I will be telling many others about the poor customer service and how they basically stock there store with barley paying anything for the items they do take. I can only imagine the General Manager in this store must be getting a large bonus based on the nearly 100 percent markup as they rarely pay out anything. Also due to the fact that the majority of the employees were young and part time therefore the GM has a small amount of payroll paid to there staff. All I can say is they better have all the items we brought in the store for them to examine... My advice to all who read this don't even waste your time with this store.... read more
