I have been shopping and selling with Plato's since they opened years ago and I have always had a good experience; up until the last 6 months or so. When I used to sale you would get a decent and fair amount for your clothing. About anywhere from $3 to $10 for clothes which is reasonable. This last year has gotten worse. They are starting to lowball like crazy. It's been getting worse and worse and today when I went in to sell I was so over it. They wanted to take two items from my bag. One was a brand new SF Giants orange tank top with the tag still on that cost me $40 dollars. They wanted to offer me $1.10. Then they wanted to take an express dress that cost me $70 dollars that was worn once. They also wanted to offer me $1.10. So $2.20 for $110 in clothing and one with the tag still on. I told the girl absolutely not and I will start taking my business elsewhere. I could get a better deal selling those to the goodwill for that cheap price. Very disappointment with how much they are now trying to lowball. read more

I brought in like 3 bags of brand name clothes and they only excepted one thing, and I waited close to 2 hours for them to review it all, what a waste of time. But as for shopping there you can find some pretty good deals. read more

This past experience was terrible. The cashier was rude, scolded me for not being in at a certain time, and slammed the form and pen down on the counter. She did not ask me if it was my first time bringing in items, she did not ask if I was familiar with the policy of them marking down the price points 50-70% off the original price. I brought in items that still had tags on, never been worn and received a tenth of the price for each one. I have brought in items before with tags still on them and received almost full price for them. I work in retail and understand that it can be hectic juggling multiple tasks at once but your customer and their experience always come first. Be attentive and make sure your customer feels welcome and taken care of. I don't think I will be back in this store, their customer service was horrible. Wish I would've known about their policy beforehand, otherwise I would've kept my items. read more

I went in to try and sell some of my clothes I may have worn once or twice and have lost a lot of weight so they no longer fit me and they REFUSED to by any plus size clothing over a 13/15...I was shocked, mainly because of the refusal but also by the quality of clothing they had on their racks. I will never go in to purchase clothes or to sell in the future! read more

omg! worst place ever to go! the girl there she talked so fast about how it works I was like damn easy!!! then she said do you understand ? I said yeah if you spoke a little slower.. but anyways I wanted to cash in on some clothes. some nice jean pants and some nice dress shirts and normal t shirts but no they didn't want them because they were not name brands.. wtf! ok well they have some clothes there , shoes that are over priced looks like they were off some homeless guy ( no offense) .. but whatever! walked out with the what we came in there with.. what a rip off! never going there ever! I have been a customer at Platos closet for the past few years and it has grown so much! In the past Platos closet wasn't perfect, but now they have grown so much & have such a great staff willing to help you with anything and great inventory! They are now a tad bit more selective on what they buy from customers, but they do have standards that have to be met in order to better their inventory. It is a fun store with all types of different styles sold their! It is much cleaner and organized than before. Much easier to shop. Everything is organized by the style, color, and size. Definitely do not recommend people to come here. The place is a bit dirty. I think they only say they buy used clothes to lure you into the store so you will hopefully buy their clothes. They don't really buy anything you bring in. You will be lucky if they buy just 1. The price you get isn't even worth it. I agree with the other yelpers when they say that the clothes they don't buy from me is in better shape than the clothes they sell. I came in with neatly folded clothes and they returned it to me shoved in some trash bags. So disappointed. The staff are not nice and you're better off doing a garage sale yourself. read more

It's a really cute store. Sadly a lot of reviews seem to be from people that did not get their clothes "bought." It shows that they are picky. I always find really cute workout stuff there including cute designer workout pants. OMG!!!!! Horrible, horrible, horrible!!!! I would never go back into that store for anything! They were so rude!!!! I brought a bag full of stylish named brand clothes(abercrombie, hollister, urban outfitters, american eagle, etc) and a separate bag full of shoes! As i waited in the store (they wont let you leave) for 45 minutes, while they tore apart my clothes like crazy hobos, i had to painstakingly stare at the ripped, worn, faded, and smelly clothes they had on the rack. I was pretty confident they would take my clothes, seeing they looked like a million dollars compared to theirs.They took 4 items! A brand new pair of wedge heels that i bought for $50, a pair of shorts with the tag still on them worth $18, a skirt from old navy that i had never worn, and a jacket from forever 21 worth $25. Guess what i got for all that??? a Whopping $12.60!!!! i told them no, and kept my items. I told the lady ebay would give me more, and left. I thought i would leave that store practically rolling in dough because all of the clothing i brought was gently used, some even brand new! And everything was up to date(seeing that they only accept clothing that has been in stores for the last 12-18 months) I went with my sister, and they didn't take one single item of hers(she had over 50). They just threw her clothes back into her bin UNFOLDED! We made sure everything looked nice, and clean, thinking that presenting the clothes in a nice way would help there stuck up attitudes, and maybe give us a chance. But i guess we were wrong. I'd have to say I'm more upset about the lack of care these employees have. I know each time I take my clothes in, I'm going to get next to nothing for what I've paid but "they don't set the pricing" I get it. But what's upsetting is each time I've gone in there I fold each item up nicely and separate clothes from accessories, etc. and when I get my bags back everything is thrown in so careless. If your not gonna take my clothes, how am I going to go to another place who won't accept wrinkled clothes. It's rude to be careless about someone's time and effort. I always shop here with my daughter but the first time I brought clothes to sell. It seems like they didn't really look through my bag because I was watching them. They only bought 1 item & "lost" one of my sweater. I know because I counted my items & I know what I had in there. I'm really disappointed, I'm not the type to complain but they didn't even bother to say they will call me if they find it. read more

Some good finds if you are looking to find some deals. My selling experience was horrible though. I think they didn't have time to put any effort in to it. They turned down a short, strapless dress and a spagetti strapped ruffled shirt for being too mature. I could hardly keep a straight face. Also brought in a purse for my friend. I checked to make sure it was empty then zipped it. They turned it away for zipper being broke, seriously how did it brake in a matter of minutes? A little suspicious. read more

Got the cutest purse! And sold some stuff I didn't wear for over $40 bucks! I recommend coming here... Keep in mind that your not going to make your rent money here.. Nor will they take your clothing that is stained and old.. But if your not going to wear the items it's definitely worth a shot at some cash that's just been sitting in your closet! So my advice? Be realistic! Don't expect to make a ridiculous amount of money or for them to take every single item but they have cute stuff for really cheap! Well, I have been a thrift store shopper for 12 years plus. I have gone to hundreds of thrift stores throughout California. I just moved to this area and decided to go in to this business in hopes of finding great deals. What an absolute disappointment. Their prices were just insane. Designer jeans with RIPS, not factory, but RIPS and tears they were marking at $30 and $40.00. In my opinion their merchandise looks like it came from thrift stores. I spent 30 minutes in there to insure I got a good feel for their prices and I was shocked at every turn. I will never shop there again. Im giving two stars for their customer service. As a chain store, their inventory is always good. But the staff could use some nicer people in my opinion. I wouldn't waste time trying to sell clothes to this particular platos closet, because they will take forever, and i mean they took over an hour, to go through a bag of clothes and MAYBE offer you below bottom price for your items if they do want them. this place is crap. I called to make sure what brands they take. I only brought Aeropostle, Hollister, PAC SUN stuff, oh a few brand new Rue 21 plain tops. 3 huge bags of barely worn clothes in excellent condition. they took 7 items and none were brand names. i had 3 pairs of brand new hollister shorts with tags(no receipt to return them to store) and they did not take them. the clothes in the store are old and not much brand name shirts,etc for teen girls. the shoes and jackets were old and dirty. I would never go back there. the only thing worth buying would be jeans. the employees have no style and they are looking at the closes to buy from you. this place is a joke and was so disappointed after hearing the ads on the radio. good will is a better bet than this store. read more

Today , I went in to sell. I took a huge box and a couple pairs of shoes. They said it would take about 1 hour which I thought was reasonable. Later I came back. They couldn't find my box of bought stuff so I had to wait a while. At this point I was not very happy. Once they found it the lady told us they had only bought two items. I was very disappointed since their were at least 150 shirts in the box I had brought in. I received $3 and had to take all the stuff back home. I then realized they had not searched the whole box. I bought several spring tops there yesterday,but my favorite was a Rachel Roy tank I looked up on macys.com for $79 and I got it for $6.00!!! been my favorite store for years and this is exactly why! managers are very helpful as well. thanks shelby and sarah! also I sold just a few things and traded for what I bought so I ended up making $5 just by getting rid of old clothes and shopping. that's my kinda day! read more

Just took over $500.00 worth of clothes there and all I got was $6.00. Came from Lodi and that just paid for my gas. Looked at the shoes and boots that were hanging up and they looked old and dirty. Don't waste your time at this place. read more
