I used to shop at Plato's. But when you take items for sale the sales was very rude. I took in brand new jeans of today's trendy style and she said to take them home n wash them. Keep in mind these were brand new jeans n I don't smoke. i find that absolutely rude. In the long run I sold all my clothes to a different company n made 100$. Goodbye Plato's. Don't come here if your trying to resell, your better off selling your stuff on ebay or mercari. I called up there to see what they were taking (dresses and t-shirts, sandals were on demand) & really with stores like this you can only bring a handful of things to resell. Based on other reviews it seems people have had issues with this location, but I had a great experience here. Upon entering, a very nice employee signed me in for selling clothes and gave me an estimated wait time of 30 minutes. The wait time she gave was accurate and they actually bought a decent amount of clothes from me. Other locations have given me my bins back or only offered less than five dollars and I got almost twenty here. The racks are nicely organized and there's a huge selection. I'm giving them four stars based on the quickness of my one experience. They do an online check in thing now and it texts you when your stuff is ready which is great. The employees were friendly and quick but they were also not busy soooooo I can't say that this is all the time. As most people know, Plato's closet the company feels like a total rip off. For me, on average I receive about $3 per item. They turn down clothes that are far better than clothes they have in the store which always baffles me. Not sure if this is company wide but this location doesn't accept swimsuits (even with tags and hygiene strips). If you're going to go to Plato's I suggest taking clothes you are completely detached from. You need to go in with a mindset of not getting a lot of money. Like these are clothes I would give/throw away so 10 bucks sounds great kind of bar. Personally I don't even look at what they take so I don't start calculating how much of a L this is. If you are considering taking the time to try and resell here, it is not worth it. I popped in with a small bag of clothes and was told they'd have an offer in 40 mins and would text me. They never texted me and I came back and stood around the counter for a while before anyone would bother stopping so I could ask them for my items back. I brought some trendy casual shirts and a pair of jeans from this season, along with some nicer stuff and was told "we can't take any of this , you should go to clothes mentor"...but there were jeans and shirts hanging on the rack from the same brands I brought. And a lot of walmart stuff on the rack lol so they clearly aren't picky. I think they just looked at me, saw I wasn't a teenager or early 20s and that was that . Don't bother selling your things here. They are EXTREMELY picky. I dropped in with 4 large bags of clothing and they did not accept a single item because they were not within "2 years". That's ridiculous! Items I had included Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Banana Republic, Forever21, Rue21, OneCloset, Style&Co, Charter Club, and much more! They gear towards teen clothes, but the majority of my clothes were for teenagers since I am one myself. What's even more ridiculous is that some of my clothes I bought within the last two years. Plus the items they sell are hit and miss. Some have definitely been used, show signs of wear, and are even dirty and stained. I will say that if you search, you can find good items. I am giving 4 stars because the service associates were always nice to me. The store is usually organized and easy to shop. The time they evaluate your batch of clothing for sale is decent as well, they let you know by text if they are ready. Another thing is that any time I think of bringing my clothes/shoes to this consignment store for sale I have to remind myself not to do it. Last 3 times I went they didn't take anything that I brought it, and offered $3 for brand new pair of trendy sandals. Never again I will waste my time at this place for selling, however, if you like a bargain you will definitely find some of your liking in there, I am sure. This store is worth the drive if it's not in your neighborhood. There is room between the racks, everything is organized, the associates are friendly and the selection is huge. It's also really clean and bright so it's easy to see what you're browsing through. We drive to this one instead of the location near us because the service and selection is better. read more

Stopped in here today since I love the one in the West End and I happened to be passing by on Midlothian Tnpk... This Plato's isn't as strong for me as the other one, it's got a lot of stuff but in general the clothing looks cheaper, and they have a ton of jeans, which are just too hot to consider in the summer. They have a decent selection of dresses but I didn't see a ton of menswear, and none of the shoes looked appealing to me. Again, Plato's is generally for teenagers, but the one in the west end has stuff that women in their 20's and early 30's would wear... this one not so much. Nevertheless, my sister scored a really cute dress for $6 off their clearance rack, and I found a few things to try on, but nothing I liked enough to buy. read more

I've been going there since it opened. They used to buy almost everything you brought in, but now, if they buy anything at all, they'll give you next to nothing for it. I remember I bought a pair of shoes from them, and those shoes just weren't working for me. A month later, I filled up a bag with those same shoes, and some jeans that still had the tags on them. They told me when I came back that the clothes were too "worn", despite them all having the tags still on them. They did offer me money for the shoes that I had bought from them...they offered me A DOLLAR for a pair of shoes that had only been worn once, and I had bought them for 10 dollars. The girls who work there are very flighty and rude. I've never really had a good experience there in the past few years. It just seems to keep getting worse. I have been buying, selling and trading wth consignment stores for more than 15 years. I went into this location yesterday. I usually try to sell items twice a week. However, when I went in to pick up my items and my money this time, the manager informed me that I would need to bring in a receipt for proof of purchase since most of my items were brand new with tags. I'm not sure what a receipt will do but I will be returning to this same location with a receipt. However, my receipt will have the name of the establishment blacked out. Where I purchase my items is a trade secret for me. It is none of your business where I purchase my items. Either you want to buy my things or not. Most people who work and deal in this industry know that depending on where you purchase your items you will not receive an itemized receipt. You bring in anything from Michael Kors to brand new American Eagle jeans, wait two hours, get rude service, if you're lucky you'll overhear them talking shit about your stuff, and then you'll get $5 or less for it. This shop caters to teens / juniors. So if you are consigning work clothes, blazers, preppy clothes it's not the right fit for your stuff. They are looking for things that are currently in style - so think like a teen or college student when you look in your closet. The staff were helpful and nice. Pricing my basket took 40 mins which I think is kinda standard in the industry. Got offered $2.50 a piece and the nicer clothes were just too low an offer to accept. Honestly I could get those prices at a garage sale but if this is more convenient for you go for it! read more

I had name brands that had tags & were barely worn. They took 2 items out of 2 big bags & 1 little one. Seemed like they didn't even go through it all the way. You could find better things at good will for cheaper. There were bags & fake designer purses. I had a REAL coach bag I thought for sure they would buy, but no..? Don't expect to go there with loads of clothes and get lots of money back. They are very selective about what they take [which is like next to nothing] and give you very little money back always for some bogus reason. I once turned in a Baby Phat purse [never used] heels never worn, and some other things and they offered me $5! I rather shop than sell. read more

This store in comparison to the other is horrible. The girls are very rude, and dont even acknowledge you when you come to the counter. Im not a judgemental person, sometimes I accept the fact that sometimes you have a bad day and don't want to be bothered. BUT, I have sold clothes many times before and the service there is just very bad. I drove out from Cumberland with a box of wash and nice clothes. I even ironed and hung up two really nice shirts. I was the first one there at 9am. and the two girls almost jumped on me by saying " we don't take clothes on hangers!! " I said " Good Morning to you too! " I said that I didn't know about the hanger policy . I was told it may take an hour to look through my clothes. But they would text me. Will I went out of the store and did some thing and waited and waited. No text...... So at noon. I went back and was handed back my box of clothes. ( the clothes were not in the same condition as I left them.. They were all roll up and just put in the box. They were not neatly folded like I took them.) Then I was told, they were of a older group, and they would not be able to sell them. What???. These clothes were of my niece that is 20 yrs old. I will never shop or even try to sell them clothes again. They have a help wanted sign on the door. I can see way. If these girls couldn't even say Good-Morning , I wouldn't want to work there either. There are all kinds of signs about wanting clothes. I can see why....... The worst customer service ever. I will never step foot in there again. The cashiers move at a snail's pace. One associate saw me standing there for close to 15 minutes and then took another customer who just walked in the door. When I said "excuse", I've been in line and am doing the same thing that she is", the associate asked me my name and still took the other person ahead of me.
