This place needs more love. It's a cool antique store lots of other interesting items. This place is fantastic for finding cool birthday and Christmas gifts. Lots of local university fan stuff too. I had to waste some time waiting for a prescription to be filled and have always wanted to stop in to this store. I have never, in my whole life been so uncomfortable in a store. I was looking for a serving platter and a bracelet to complement some I already have. The three women working followed me around so closely. It was so awkward that at one point, I stopped what I was looking at and made eye contact. I finally just left. Their stuff was cute and I didn't even get to look at the prices. They were breathing down my neck too closely. Maybe invest in cameras to watch your customers. Reading the other reviews, this seems to be a trend. read more

Upon entering the store today, I was met with a VERY bad odor and it even made my eyes water. This smell was all over the store and I just had to hurry up and get out of there. I also must say that it's just WAY to packed in there and it makes it very difficult to really see what they have and it makes you feel dizzy instead of being able to really enjoy shopping. The biggest downfall to this store is that their prices are WAY to high!!!! I've never in my life seen for instance a pair of women's clogs priced at "$185" for goodness sakes!!! They're just a pair of shoes and not made of gold and even worse than that are the prices on their clothes. One ladies blouse starts at $150 - $200 and this is just a little shop in Mechanicsville ya'll and not a shop on "Rodeo Drive". I have purchased two pieces of jewelry in the past that broke in two after only wearing them one time so I have to wonder just what kind of quality items do they really have in this store and why on earth do they price everything so high? If there was a "Real Housewives of mechanicsville " this is where they would shop. This little boutique has it all. Cutesy stickers, baby books, swanky clothing, statement necklaces, wine glasses and so much more. I decided to stroll through this shop during my lunch break one day and was surprised by how big this place is. The other customers shopping were looking for something to wear to a wedding and the staff was pulling together options to help them. It was nice to seem local personalized service. What threw me off was how pricey everything was. Not somewhere I'd shop on a regular basis but a nice place to pick up a local trinket when there is a sale going on. read more

This store has really cute stuff, and I enjoy going in there and just browsing and looking at everything. However, every time I go in there... it's an uncomfortable feeling I get. I feel like I'm being watched by the staff. They definitely are on guard all the time. Cold stares, just not friendly. Like guys.. I swear I'm not stealing, I just want to look! It is a very nice store as far as merchandise they carry, but it is not a very welcoming place. Some of the staff/owner are not friendly at all. When you try to engage with some of them, you get a blank stare. Not a store that I wish to spend my money in. They really need to learn how to be more friendly towards customers and make you feel like you want to shop in their store. read more

1st time: asked for a pair of Italian made Dansko, got China made even though the lady I asked said all of them are Italian made (not true). Returned. 2nd time: Nice young helpful lady helped find the perfect shoe and in the size requested. Waited 2 weeks for them to arrive. 3rd time: Went in the store to pick up the shoes. Not the shoes I paid for or ordered. Lady that should've told me that they weren't the shoe I ordered didn't, and let me go home and my merry way. The shoes that I wanted didn't come in the size that I wanted, but instead of calling me (they had my number) and telling me about it, they went ahead and ordered a DIFFERENT and CHEAPER pair of shoes. Definitely not coming here again. Originally got as a birthday gift that is well over a month late. read more

Belle Cottage is one of my happy places. I always look forward to visiting and seeing the unique merchandise - both clothing and gifts... It sure beats shopping on-line (where returns are inevitable due to wrong sizing). I enjoy the staff's interaction and honest feedback when I try on clothing. I walked by the store and noticed a beautiful bag that I would have loved to purchased. Upon entry I was not greeted although several employees were on the floor and a couple of them actually looked up when I walked in. Yet I still decided to look around a bit. The merchandise is BEAUTIFUL and as I said I had my eye on one particular bag, however after I had been inside for approximately 10-15 mins and still had not received acknowledgment, I decided that my money would be better spent elsewhere. I understand that in retail workers can be very busy BUT I was the only customer in store... I have to agree that these women are rude and lack proper customer service skills. read more

I love this shop!! It is a perfect place to pick up a quick baby shower gift, a wedding gift, a graduation gift...the list goes on and on. The staff here have been kind and courteous every time I stop by. They have such a great selection of so many things I think anyone would be hard pressed to not find what they were looking for!!
