Nice and clean with a huge selection and great prices. I brought a tub of clothes that I hadn't worn for a year or two and was expecting to get offered maybe $40 - I've heard they are 'picky' about the items they accept. I went back about 20 minutes later and they had already gone through my items and packed up a few things that they couldn't take. They ended up offering me almost $170 for the items they could accept, and I was ecstatic. It seems like they must get new items pretty often because the inventory always seems refreshed when I go in. I love this store. read more

Save your time and your sanity. The employees at this location are extremely disrespectful. I have gone in only a few times to drop off clothing since moving to Rochester under a year ago. Each time I have left annoyed by the attitude, always finishing conversations and gossip with coworkers before acknowledging a customer. No greeting when walking in, and they make you feel like you're bothering them by coming in. Not to mention the lack of clothing that they'll take. I have been using Plato's all over Iowa i for a very long time so I know the "rules" on what they will or won't take and pack my drop off accordingly. The Rochester location recently offered me $16 for 3 agree People items. One sweatshirt worn once, a brand new never worn pair of leggings, and a fleece 1/4 zip. I ended up taking all my items back and declining that payout as it was a total joke. I took these same drop off bags to another location where they took nearly everything for $200+. I won't be going back... ever. I'd rather store the clothing while I wait for Poshmark orders to come in, which says a lot as I can't stand keeping it piled up in the house. read more

***IF YOURE SELLING YOUR CLOTHES BEWARE** Thea was assisting me the entire time. I've never had issues with selling my clothes at this location until today. I was kind and respectful but I was met with a rude tone that made me uncomfortable. She told me they couldn't take any of my items because they "had so much pet hair, lint, pilling". She then told me "if you wash them and bring it back we might be able to look at them". Which is understandable but She never mentioned that any of the items were overstocked, or stained. When I washed the clothes and brought them back she told me that she couldn't take any of the items again now because of "overstock and stains". I was again met with the same rude tone and facial expressions. I would've had no problem with them not being able to take anything if her tone wasn't so passive aggressive, and if she didn't completely waste my time. It felt intentional given she was coming up with new reasons as to why she couldn't take anything both times. Mind you this has never happened to me at this location before. I had name brand items. I would recommend sellers going to another location or using depop/poshmark. Because the way I was treated today was ridiculous. read more

This stores management is repulsive. Not only are they incredibly short staffed but they wrongfully fire their workers over the phone and without telling them. Your coworkers at Plato's closet are amazing but Admira Adivc the manager creates conflict randomly and doesn't follow policy's with the store. Do not let your kids work here. read more

Took a big basket of clothes (The North Face, Patagonia, Nike, etc). They didn't take anything, which is totally fine. Their entire selection of items is Walmart, Shein, Goodfellow. They returned the basket of clothes I was trying to sell, which I had sorted and folded, looking like they had turned everything inside-out and crumpled into a ball. read more

Im posting this experience I just had with this place so hopefully i can save a few other people from making the big mistake that I made by selling clothes to this store... i am in a bit of a bad spot right now and need some extra cash so I went thru my closet and found some stuff I never wore and a few Christmas presents I got from people that didn't work for me and thought I could make a little extra cash by selling my stuff to this store, but boy did I make a huge mistake.. this place basically robs people that are in bad spots that are selling there clothes to make a little cash... it's appalling the the amount of money that I ended up getting for my clothes that I had my boyfriend bring into this store. I had a brand new Nike coat with the tag still on it saying that I paid 90.00 for the coat, I had a pair of Nike shoes that I got as a gift that were to big so I only wore them 1 time so basically brand new Nike shoes, 3 pairs of under armer/ Nike leggings and a either Nike or Adidas tee shirt... I wasn't expecting to get rich here but I sure wasn't expecting to feel as if I had just been robbed when my boyfriend came back with a picture of the receipt telling me how much I got... $24.40!!! I sold 6 all name brand, some even brand new with tags on them items and I got $24 fucking dollars for them?! I could have got more then that if I sold the Nike shoes alone on market place, I probably could have got $40 at least for the Nike coat with the tag on it showing its value is $90, had I knew how little this place would give me for my stuff I would have been better off just donating my stuff to goodwill, at least I would feel like I got more out of helping someone that needs it vs basically donating my clothes to a company that's going to turn around and sell my stuff for 10× the amount that they paid me for it...I've sold to this place multiple times over the years and they give you less and less money for your stuff yet there prices have either stayed the same or gotten more expensive then before. I'd like to just get my stuff back and never sell to this place again but I don't see that happening... Maybe if people like me would stop just excepting the nickles and dimes for our stuff this place wouldn't continue to get away with it!!! read more

Not worth trying to sell here every time I try to sell around 5 PM here they are always closed for buying which I think is very weird because online their business says that they buy all day everyday that they're open and they are open until 10 PM. Apparently they did a remodel in the five days I had dropped off my clothes and donate it was not taken. What they did buy was only allowed to be in store credit which I don't live in Rochester anymore so it would've been really nice to have been told when I dropped my clothes off that they were going to be doing a remodel if I was unable to pick them up that day to maybe come back a different day. read more

They have so much stuff (good stuff!), in such a small area. Add in the abundance of shoppers, and it was really claustrophobic feeling. Cool selection of clothes. Store dont smell bad like other thrifts. Prices are great. Staff was nice to us. Guys clothing is nice too. The 1 bad thing is that they dont have to much to offer after Medium Sizes. Shoes...prices amazing!!!!! Definitely coming back. read more

Theo is the best person I've ever cross paths with at Plato closet. Every time I walk in the store and Theo is at the front desk. I automatically feel welcomed. Not only is his personality great but , he helps you find whatever you are looking for in the store. His also a great stylist and I'm never afraid to ask him how certain things look on me. They have a polite staff. I came in to sell some dresses but they weren't the right styles for them. I was given a $2 off coupon just for bringing stuff in, even if they didn't take it. They only take name brand stuff that are in style right now. Disappointed I couldn't sell anything but nice experience anyway. Brought some things in. The place is super organized, but packed with things. Some items are practically new and even have their original tags sold for a fraction of the price. They're over stocked on a lot of things and they're picky on what they take. They picked about 2% of things I brought. Wait time was about 15 mins. I got a total of $20 for my items which are probably worth a lot more. I will be donating the rest to women's shelter and savers. read more

Love this place- really nice manager and a lot better Plato's than the surrounding ones...they have a better selection of clothing- store is huge but also really clean for second hand, They even have displays of outfits -really cute! Plato's isn't your typical thrift shop they actually care and are selling to a targeted market. Make sure to talk to the staff - they always know where the cute, brand new stuff is. Never sold clothing to them before so I cannot comment on that but the girls seem nice and I wouldn't be nervous about bringing my stuff in. read more

I too will never bring clothes here to consign. I brought name brand sweatshirts and t- shirts (American Eagle and Aeropostle) that have barely been worn and in excellent condition and none of them were accepted. I also brought under armor baseball gear that is now "in season" and these were also given back. The reasons for not taking them were that they were not popular brands. Are you kidding me?? I first off want to say that I LOVE to shop here!!! But today I decided that I wanted to try and sell some items. So I brought in two bags and a big tote full of name brand clothing. (Northface, Miss Me, Under Armour, etc.) They said it would take awhile to go through the items so in the mean time I looked around I found a pair of pants that I wanted but after awhile decided that I would go walk around at other places while I waited. I asked the cashier if I could leave the pants I was interested in with the stuff I had brought in. She happily said yes and set it with my items. I came back after about 30-40 minutes. The lady comes up to me with a small tote of items she wanted to buy, my jaw literally dropped. Thats it? Of the stuff I did bring in, (that they accepted) they offered me $40 some dollars. I agreed since I had spent so much time getting the stuff washed and packed to come here. That and I live over an hour away. The cashier was now extremely rude with me. I looked through the items that she had accepted and was really shocked to see that they did not accept the Northface, I very nicely asked her why they did not take it. Her response was "Hair is all over it and I can't get it off." I pulled it out of my tote and looked at it. ONE...yes I said ONE piece of hair was on it. I pulled the hair off, put it back in my tote and walked out. When I got home I realized not only did they take the money out for the pair of pants I wanted, but they didn't even give me the pants!!! I have only gone to Plato's Closet to sell things one time. They bought 3 times from what I brought in. When I brought the items in for review for possible purchase, they were clean and neatly folded in the crate. The employees had taken everything out of the crate I brought in to review it, that is fine. However, when I got home I found the items that they did not purchase to have been placed back in the crate in a very crumpled way. Things were all groups together, unfolded and sort of balled up, Leaving many items wrinkled. Maybe a suggestion would be to look at the items one at a time, and then gently fold the ones you are not planning to purchase. It is just nice to return the unwanted items to the seller in a neat way. I have sold things at other stores and they unpurchased items were not returned to me in such a way. I don't think I will be returning there, it is not worth the time to refold the items and try to get the wrinkles out. I did sell them at another store. read more
