I took 2 bags in to sell and they took 4 items and I was fine with it and sold it to them, but then I went home and I was going through my bags and the bottom of the bags were folded and rolled exactly how I put them in the bag the night before. The tops looked they they had gone through it but it doesn't look like they even took out the clothes at the bottom. read more

The clothes were covered in hair and fuz. I walked buy one section and all I could smell is some nasty BO. Yuck. Goodwill takes better care of there clothes and is cheeper. I felt like I was going to puke with the smell. What few things I did find it took a hot Minute for someone to check us out. read more

I went into this store and was trying on clothes in the dressing room an employee opened the door while I was in the dressing room without knocking, I was naked and felt embarrassed and humiliated . The employee didn't apologize then proceeded to hide in the back Of the store to avoid me. My friend was waiting for me outside the dressing room and witnessed the whole encounter, the employee trued to brush it off as my fault and hid when I left the dressing room. I never got an apology and in another other store this behavior would not be acceptable. I called the store to let them know about this situation and they never returned my call. This store is run by a bunch of teenagers and there needs to be an adult to monitor then because this is ridiculous behavior. read more

This place is solid. It really depends on what they have, since their inventory depends on what people bring in, etc. The bad reviews I read are kind of funny. You shouldn't spend $130 on a bland MK wallet--that's poor money management--and then get mad that they don't want to buy it from you. They'd have to sell it for, like, $20--which means that they'll give you $5 because they have to make a profit. My point is, don't expect them to give you 80% of your $300 jacket, because they can't sell that to the bargain shoppers that specifically come in to save money. Also, if you're so desperate to sell stuff to Plato's Closet, but spend $130 on wallets, maybe you should be a better saver so you don't have to be in a tough financial situation. Spend that $130 on car insurance or a credit hour at LFCC. Oh yeah--I once bought an awesome pair of pants here. read more

Brought in a large tote of items to sell, all widely known name brands(Under Armour, MK, Hurley, AE), many brand new with tags still attached - and about 90% of the items have only been worn once. Everything seemed promising from the speech I was given prior to dropping my items off. They buy items from you for 36-40% of their 70% off retail sale price, with items over $50 fetching a 50% offer. Sounds great! I was called the following day that my items had been appraised and "ready to be picked up." Apparently they can't tell you that they were willing to buy my items over the phone because of pawn laws, so there's that. I drove across town to pick up my items and when I arrived to the store I was greeted by dead silence and blank stares. I walked to the counter and explained that I was just called to pick up my items, with a robotic response of "ok." They then presented me with a small bin and a response of "this is what we are willing to buy from you." I could see my large tote on the floor with everything hastily thrown back in, clothes literally popping out of the sides. I thought to myself "this is going to be good." Out of everything I had brought, they chose to keep 1 Under Armour zip up hoodie (brand new, $55 price tag still attached), and a matching Breast Cancer Awareness Under Armour jogger set (never worn). I asked them really that's all you guys would accept? They then begin to tell me that all of my other items were either stained or had holes which they would not accept, which I thought was hilarious. Then they proceeded to tell me that my items were of "spring and summer" and they aren't currently accepting anything from those seasons right now. Everything I brought was fall/winter. Literally everything. Hoodies, sweaters, Jackets, pants, scarves, etc.; all of which I was told when I dropped them off that they were currently accepting in their speech. Finally they get to the offer of the whopping THREE items they "hand selected." $17. A whole $17. Now I don't have a masters degree in math, but there is no way they offer 36-40% for your items, even at their 70% off retail rate. I decided that this whole ordeal was a joke and that I would rather keep my items than basically give my stuff away. I'd feel morally better to donate my clothes to people in need than sell my items to this horrible business practice. I understand they need to make money, but absolutely nothing about their polices make sense. I guess it's solely based on how much their snooty staff members are actually willing to work that day, or how much they like you. I proceed to tell them I'll just take all my items home as it's not even worth me selling them for that price and have a nice day. I then get home and start to go through all my items I had brought, trying to understand what on earth they were talking about only to find THEY HAD REMOVED ALL OF MY PRICE TAGS FROM MY BRAND NEW ITEMS. Why on earth would you remove all of the price tags from my items with no intention of purchasing them from me to begin with!? This place is an absolute joke. I wouldn't support this business with someone else's money. Stay far away if you're in the market to sell your clothes. You're better off using Mercari or eBay. At least you can sell your stuff from the comfort of your home instead of being treated like you're inconveniencing someone to do their job. read more

Don't bother selling your stuff here. I brought in a tote with some really nice items, including some brand new (and practically brand new) designer sandals and pumps. Some of the handbags I brought in weren't used any more than once. No rips, tears, or stains. They told me it'd take about 15 minutes because they needed to look the items up. Turns out it was only 5 minutes before they decided to tell me that they won't take any of my items. They said that short strapped bags don't sell well (when 3 to 4 of my bags actually could be worn on the shoulder and/or cross-body, which makes me think they didn't even look through all of them). Mind you, they sell cross-body bags and bags that have top handles that cannot be worn on the shoulder.... and they were in far worse condition than mine. They had Michael Kors and Kate Spade purses with ink stains, damage to the handles and leather, scratches galore... Those bags aren't (from someone who resells handbags) worth any more than 30 dollars, but sell them for 70 to 80 dollars? I also bought a Coach backpack from here that ended up reeking of cigarette smoke. Yes, take the smelly backpack but not the pristine condition Nine West bag that I had. They said they **were** going to take my Michael Kors wallet but couldn't authenticate it. I'm not sure what system they use but it sounds like they need a new system. Or someone who knows what they're doing/what they're looking at, as far as designers go. This was an authentic 130 dollar wallet I bought (with sales tag detached but left at home) at the ACTUAL Michael Kors outlet. Also said shoes don't sell well either, but they have Nike's, Coach Sandals, etc., Michael Kors is easier to authenticate than a pair of Jordan's, but this place has plenty of those. Oh, and don't bother taking jewelry in to sell, either. I felt a little insulted. You'd be better off selling on eBay of the Facebook Marketplace. They probably wouldn't have given me much for any of it, anyways. I've read the reviews on Google, and the reviews are true. Very disappointing. read more

We came here to rid of some old clothes and had a great experience. We left with about $330.00 but they didn't take all of our clothes. I'm assuming because a lot of it was men's winter clothing and they didn't have much room for it. Maybe I will wait until the season changes to bring back the rest. The store was actually really neat and organized and the employees were really nice and easy to work with! We will be back in the future to drop off some more stuff! Great place! read more

As a buyer, I really like this store - as a seller, this store stinks. I've found a nice variety of clothes here from time to time - got my boyfriend a nice pair of Tommy Bahama swim trunks, a basically new pair of Vans, nice flannels, Victoria's Secret leggings. I usually am able to find something nice to buy when I shop there for myself, though it's hit and miss like any secondhand clothing store. However, selling wise - one Sunday I brought a huge bag full of very nice clothing (by nice, I mean they were business casual work clothes that simply didn't fit me) and I'd venture to say at least half still had the tags on them. They didn't take a single item, claiming they were too old (most I got last summer?) and not the "style" they were after. I had White House Black Market, Gap, Loft, some Kohl's stuff, but mostly nice (some expensive!) brands. I get that Plato's Closet is a trendy store aimed at young women. But they don't take ANY type of business clothing? I'm 24, maybe I'm a bit on the older side of who shops there, but even if you're 16-18, there are places that want you to dress nicely for retail or food service work. It just kinda blows me away that they won't take any type of dress-up clothing unless it's a dress, and from what I've seen, most of the dresses they take I would NOT wear to work. I'll continue to shop here occasionally, but I'll never bother attempting to sell here again. Guess I'll just sell my nicer stuff on eBay like I should've done in the first place and get more money. Selling here just would've saved a lot of time. read more

Don't even try selling anything here. I took a big bag of clothes and they only took one shirt. All my clothes were in great shape and with the recent trends. Apparently to them all my stuff was out dated and worn. I work at a popular retail store I think I know what's in and what's not. Sometimes they don't even fully go through the bags. How lazy! Can I just say how AWESOME Plato's Closet is? First off, they actually give you money for your clothes that you don't want/wear anymore, but the items in the store are also super cheap! You could get 5x more American eagle jeans here for the same price as one pair of jeans at the actual store. I love this place and the people there, definitely recommend! read more

I definitely won't be shopping here again. The customer service wasn't helpful and they charged my card twice for the items i did purchase. When i reached out to them about this issue they insisted it wasn't their fault, didn't offer to help me in any way, and were honestly quite rude saying that the situation was "black and white" and that they only charged my card once. However after talking with my bank they told me that it went through the store processor twice and that is why the money was withdrawn from my bank account twice. I get that mistakes can happen, but when they do the management and customer service should at least be helpful. read more

Such a neat place. I never leave here without buying anything! They always have nice name brand clothes for great prices and everything is so organized! However, the last time I went there I was not impressed by the staff. There wasn't many people in the store and when we went up to check out they were all standing around talking. That's fine, one departed the group to help us and the other town girls migrated over still carrying on their conversation with the girl checking us out. I'm not one to complain too often so i stood there patiently waiting for her to finish checking me out. On of the others girls was standing there with her HAND UP HER SHIRT casually talking. It was odd. After the girl was done sticking her hand up she shirt she disregarded us, and asked the checkout lady, "do they need a bag" in a rude tone. I feel it would have been politer to ask us directly if we needed a bag, mind you we got at least 15 items. Other than that it's a great store. Maybe just need better staff. read more
