we are visiting from VA and ride back home weekly. my son and I wanted to do a trail ride out here while on vacation. Platte Ranch did not disappoint!! amazing guides who are so friendly and knowledgeable. The scenery is so beautiful! the horses are so sweet and well loved. we really had a blast. I unfortunately got hit with some altitude sickness towards the end and the guides were really great with making sure I was okay and getting me back to the ranch. I genuinely appreciate everyone! thank you for making this such a fun experience. not your typical nose to tail trail ride! loved it

    Such a scenic ride.

A fantastic establishment with extremely kind and hands-on guides. A group of 8 of us rode for 2 hours and almost 3 miles. This is a must do in the beautiful region. This scenic ride was awesome! Thank you to the Platte Ranch for a great time!

Absolutely love this ranch, the stock and these people! We try to come out here every time we are in CO. It is a terrific place for kids of all ages, mothers and daughters, families and friends to just relax and get away from the world for a moment. Mike and Josh were wonderful, regaling guests with stories and pointing out the wildlife. The antics of the dogs who sometimes lead the way or trail behind are hilarious to watch and a testament to what farm life can and should be for canine. We've been here multiple seasons and all are spectacular. Always worth the drive!

Amy, Mike, and Josh were AMAZING guides! I would definitely recommend visiting if you are staying in Denver. Our group of 6 was absolutely enamored with this place. Our Horses (Denny, Missy, Olo, Copper, Special K., and Ferris) were just the cutest! 10/10 would recommend!

I took my friend visiting from Los Angeles out for something fun to do in the mountains while she was here for a few days. We were so glad that we did a 2 hour ride tour with Platte Ranch Double B Riding Stable. They knew exactly which horse would be best suitable for each of us and their horse are all well trained. I love that we trotted and galloped on a plateau where there is a beautiful scenery with snow capped mountains. Our guides were Tigger and Wendy. They are fun and lovely. This is seriously the best trail ride that I have ever been on.

This is the best money I have ever spent. I had such a great time here I would highly recommend. It is $80 for a 2 hour ride through the land and up a hill onto a plateau where they let you go as fast or slow as you'd like which is really different from other places. The guides are so wonderful and down to earth and the horses were very well trained. The staff also brought their dogs along on the ride and they just ran around having the time of their lives. During winter they offer one ride per day at 11 am. Amazing experience I would highly recommend if you are anywhere close to this ranch to book a ride.

Looking for something to do in the Fairplay, Co area? We would recommend Platte Ranch Riding Stables. We chose to go on the dinner ride. We had a nice two hour ride on some very well behaved horses with some very competent wrangles. The scenery was Colorado out and out. The riding was very relaxing. We rode as a group and mingled about with each other at the pleasure of the rider or the horse. No lines here. If you want to break from the group and run with the wind in your face the wranglers would take you out from the group and let you do that. I would not hesitate to take children riding here. The dinner was very good. Steak, chicken, baked beans, potatoes, and desert cooked and served in an open air style setting. Portions are cowboy size, eat to your hearts content. Platte Ranch will not disappoint.

Hands Down the highlight of our trip to Breckenridge. The drive alone is worth it. Platte Ranch was recommended to us by Paragon Lodging. I hadn't even considered riding as part of our trip, but she got me when she said open ranch riding, not head to tail stuff. After a bit of research (all five star reviews btw) we booked and afternoon two hour ride. Amy was super friendly and accommodating. We had a group of five (including my 84 year old grandfather) They sized each of us up and assigned us horses accordingly. Horses were clean, in great condition, and had great dispositions. We were given THREE guides for our five people! Could have been the nice day, or they were terrified of us tenderfeet, but either way 3 to 5 ratio makes it all pretty safe going. There is nothing to say about the surroundings except hallelujah. Even naturalists of years will be bowled over by the expanses of land and big sky that await. We went through a "stunted forest" full of miniature trees due to a water table anomaly. There were gnarled dead roots everywhere with life still growing out of them. Eerie and cool. When you get to the top of the plateau you can see many 14k foot peaks including Pike's Peak. They give you a chance to open up your horses here if you wish as well. Josh, Sean, and Dennis were fantastic guides, each with their own strengths. Never made us city slickers feel inferior or goofy for our poor form. Run, dont walk to do this. Old and young alike will LOVE it.

Truly the best experience!!! Amy and her team were awesome. Without a doubt I would to again. I can't recommend this ranch enough

If you are looking for a place to ride that has reasonable prices and friendly guides, this is the place. The views are stunning. You'll get a chance to do more than just walk in a line up a trail. It's a great way to see the beauty Colorado has to offer, or show it off to your out-of-town friends. We ended up riding on an absolutely gorgeous spring day and were the only ones there. Our guide took great care of us and tailored the trip to what we were hoping for. Even though the owners have zero online presence (everything you'll find is put up by fans) they book solid through the summer months, so call ahead!

Amy (the owner) runs a great operation and did a fantastic job at pairing our group with horses of similar personality.

I was looking for a horseback ride to round out…read moremy Colorado hiking trip and they were able to put me on a 2 hour ride with a couple that also had a ride booked. For a riding outfitter, they offered a pretty nice experience if you're not an equestrian - they encourage you to have independent control of your horse on the ride so that you're NOT riding nose-to-tail. They also, very briefly, allowed one or two opportunities to trot, which is very rare for outfitters to allow, stateside. Those were really nice selling points for me, as Im an English rider. I also got a sassy gelding named Monroe who was always ready to go faster (I had no problem holding him back and he was always very respectful of what I asked). Monroe also got a bit spooky at times when we approached a certain area and might have given me a small crow hop at one point. Again, I didn't mind his spunk! I just stayed relaxed and listened to the guide's instructions to have someone else lead (horses can get spookier when they're the lead horse) The landscape was not that interesting. We went up a big hill and then we did go through some nice aspen groves, but it wasnt too awe inspiring. They did say if we came back they would go different routes. For the horses, the crew, and the opportunities - I'd give em a 5 star. For the views, maybe a 3.5ish. Overall, I'd give em another go. I wouldn't do less than a 1 hour experience.

The guides are always so kind and encouraging, and even though the ATV tour wasn't free range, we still had a blast! The horses though, THAT was my favorite. I had Moon the first time and Alaska the second. Both of those horses were amazing, but I would say the horse you get will affect how much you enjoy it. Still, HIGHLY recommend this for anyone in the FairPlay area.

Our family and another family went the Dinner Sleigh Ride when we were in Breckenridge last week…read more We all felt it was "meh". The sleigh ride was nice, but the ride literally went up the same green ski slopes we'd been on earlier in the day (Silverthorne and Lower Sundown), so that wasn't very new or exciting. The food was OK, but not great (a very basic salad, generic mac & cheese, pretty bland "jerk" chicken, beef brisket and some roasted carrots). And it was a self-serve buffet, including getting your own napkins, utensils and drinks from coolers. We also cleared our own plates at the end of the meal. The Cash Bar only offered canned Coors beer or shots of fireballs - no other beers, no wine, no other liquor. (Had we known this, we would have brought our own!) The live entertainment was 1 guy playing a guitar in the back. ... The best part was getting back in the sleigh at the end of dinner as the sun was going down over the mountains - that was beautiful! ... Overall, it was fine and we have some fun photos. But if you are thinking of going, I'd just do the sleighride and skip the Dinner. The food and dining experience definitely wasn't worth the extra $50 per person.

I was genuinely excited for a sleigh ride experience at Breckenridge Stables, but what I…read moreencountered instead was one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had--especially shocking for a hospitality business. I paid $403 for five people for an 8:30 PM sleigh ride. Due to snow and ice on the mountain, our car began having trouble and we needed to return to Denver earlier than planned for repairs. I tried calling the business nine times and emailed four times throughout the day with no response. When I finally reached Brad, the manager of 25 years, he was immediately dismissive and said there were no refunds and no flexibility. Later, he told me we could take a 4:00 PM slot from another family who wanted to cancel. I agreed and received confirmation. Here's where it gets unbelievable: the 4:00 PM ride costs $268.75, far less than what I paid. When I politely asked if the price difference would be refunded, Brad refused and told me: * He shouldn't have allowed the switch * I needed to "get my attitude in check" * I wasn't welcome and shouldn't show up * He would cancel my reservation with no refund Meanwhile, the other family got the more expensive ride at the cheaper price, meaning I was paying the difference for someone else. Brad hung up on me twice, threatened to cancel my reservation repeatedly, and ultimately said he'd refund me only so he wouldn't have to deal with me and didn't want me coming to the business. I work in hospitality. I understand policies. But I also understand professionalism--and this was completely lacking. Weather-related safety concerns, zero communication, hostile behavior, and threats toward a paying customer are unacceptable. If you value respectful treatment, fairness, and basic decency, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.
