I came here back in mid-late August of last year. I was looking for a horseback ride to round out my Colorado hiking trip and they were able to put me on a 2 hour ride with a couple that also had a ride booked. For a riding outfitter, they offered a pretty nice experience if you're not an equestrian - they encourage you to have independent control of your horse on the ride so that you're NOT riding nose-to-tail. They also, very briefly, allowed one or two opportunities to trot, which is very rare for outfitters to allow, stateside. Those were really nice selling points for me, as Im an English rider. I also got a sassy gelding named Monroe who was always ready to go faster (I had no problem holding him back and he was always very respectful of what I asked). Monroe also got a bit spooky at times when we approached a certain area and might have given me a small crow hop at one point. Again, I didn't mind his spunk! I just stayed relaxed and listened to the guide's instructions to have someone else lead (horses can get spookier when they're the lead horse) The landscape was not that interesting. We went up a big hill and then we did go through some nice aspen groves, but it wasnt too awe inspiring. They did say if we came back they would go different routes. For the horses, the crew, and the opportunities - I'd give em a 5 star. For the views, maybe a 3.5ish. Overall, I'd give em another go. I wouldn't do less than a 1 hour experience.

It was amazing!!! We've been here 3 times, two times for horse back riding, and one other time for the ATV tour. The guides are always so kind and encouraging, and even though the ATV tour wasn't free range, we still had a blast! The horses though, THAT was my favorite. I had Moon the first time and Alaska the second. Both of those horses were amazing, but I would say the horse you get will affect how much you enjoy it. Still, HIGHLY recommend this for anyone in the FairPlay area.

    The views were spectacular!

Had an amazing adventure. Guides were knowledgeable and personable. Riding open range was amazing.

Long 2-hour ride with more liberty than other places but maybe that's why helmets are mandatory. Don't match one of our riders with right horse. Trail girls are very sweet and very kind.

The ride was fantastic! Our guide, Pedro, was the best! We had a great time and will be back with more friends!

Loved this ranch!! Especially appreciate the incredibly surroundings & fact that you can ride according to your skill-level, or trot or ride side-by-side. Our guide Viv was wonderful, as were our well-natured horses. I highly recommend this ranch over all others in Colorado.

On the trail family friendly! Great for all ages!!!

It was just amazing to take the family out for a 1hr 30min horse back riding tour. It was wonderful scenic area we road through with Aspens, small rock formations, a beautiful stream and wide open meadows. We made our way on horse back through a meadow where we found a doe with her two fawns. We also heard Elk bugling in the distance. It was just an awe inspiring horse back ride. Our guide Pedro was extremely friendly and informative. He led us to an old home stead that was from the 1800s. He made us all feel comfortable and safe. He took a lot of amazing pictures for us as well. We all really enjoyed his stories and his warm demeanor. It was just a magical family experience; they had us ride side by side and not in a line which is unique. They also have goats, alpacas and chickens on the ranch as well. I highly recommend taking a horse back tour.

Absolutely amazing time! Refreshing to not have to ride nose to butt like other ranches and see some rescues have an amazing home. Luke and Chuck were extremely hospitable. Luke was our guide and he was filled with great stories and very knowledgeable. We will definitely be back for more!

My family and I can here for horseback riding and ATV riding. It definitely did not disappoint. The scenery was amazing. The paths they took us on for both rides were awesome. Our guides, Chuck and Chaz, were extremely friendly and informative and the horses great. No fast riding due to the terrain but it wasn't an issue. Just enjoying the beautiful scenery around you was well worth the reasonable price we made. If you are in Colorado, and near Fairplay, this is a must!!

Our tour guide, Ella, guiding us down a mountain.

Had a great experience here today! Visited Breckenridge late October and this was one of the only year round horseback riding in the area. 45 mins from breck. Our tour guide, Ella, was such an educated, fun, exciting guide and I'm glad we got her! The horses are also very well trained!!

My wife and I had an amazing ride with Big Haus aka future owner! We can't express enough his teaching and enthusiasm for his horses. He loves them like children. This was no nose to butt ride. He blazed some new trails since we had some more experienced riders. Weather was great, company with my wife celebrating 23 years too. Well worth the ride! The 2 hr ride was even cheaper than Breck Stables plus a half hour more ride. Bingo! Go to American Safari Ranch. We'll be back! For all the negative reviews sorry. Be patient hopeful the future owner Haus will turn it around.

This review is specifically for Chuck and not the owner. Before coming to the ranch we had called earlier in the morning and the owner told us to go to another ranch instead. After that interesting start we had Chuck and Haus help us get on the horses and it started raining so they let us borrow some of their jackets because we forgot our own. Chuck was awesome the entire tour, he helped us become comfortable with the horses and showed us cool things along the way. Highly recommend going horseback riding here, just ignore the bad service from the owner. The views were amazing, the horses were so smart and almost just did everything on their own, you stayed in a group but were able to go on different trails and explore while still near everyone.

We both have experience with this company from rafting the Upper Salt River in AZ. Unfortunately the water levels didn't cooperate but, the rafting company modified the itinerary to give us the best possible adventure possible. Day upper upper Browns Canyon which led to class I've and the use of duckies. Operation am not a fan but, half of our group loved them. We were then driven 1.5 hours away for our dinner and tent camping (3 miles from our put in). Ryan and Eric our guides cooked a great meal and catered to the group. We awakened to a mist and heavy fog, which we were served pancakes and sausages for a warm breakfast, and let's not forget hot coffee. We then departed at 8:30 for our trip down the Royal Gorge were we hit class in rapids, lots of class 3s, great geology, good company, lots of fun and a great experience. Ryan our lead guide and Eric did a great job for 2 days of providing us a great experience and memories. You have many choices but from a personal experience this is the best company to deal with. We are already planning next year's multi day trip.

No integrity and no remorse for ruining our trip. Fast forward, we found an amazing company that agreed to work us in the same day and, after speaking to several people in the area, it is well known that Wilderness Aware Rafting has less experienced guides and get stuck in the river holding up "traffic" most days. Literally no one locally has anything nice to say. In hindsight, I am glad we didn't go with them.
