We planned a short day trip from Des Moines IA to Lincoln NE on July 5th with stops in Omaha NE and Council Bluffs IA on our way home... We love to hit antique shops, antique malls, thrift, and consignment shops. Platte Valley Antique Mall, Cafe & Pub in nearby Greenwood NE was probably our favorite stop. Followed closely by Vintage Village Antique Mall, Aardvark Antiques, Burlington Antiques, and Timeless Treasures in Lincoln NE. All of these shops are worth stopping at and checking out! We really didn't get to Omaha NE itself, but there's always next time...! We only ran into one shop that we would not recommend. Lake Manawa Antiques in Councill Bluffs IA... Look it up. I have been shopping here since the 90's and they have consistently been a top shop. Everything from tin litho toys to furniture, from fabulous advertising pieces to great glass, whether it be Fenton or Steuben. And, they've got a great bar and restaurant, too. read more

This was one of the most racist retail experiences I have ever had. Walking in the staff and owner was staring at the two of us (my best friend and I) and refused to even talk to us. They continued to follow us around the store and creep under the assumption that we were stealing something. Both of us spent quite a bit of money buying a few things here and there, and while folding the items they were dropped on the floor after being paid for. After asking if the items have been washed one of the sales assistants just said "I don't know the sellers put what they want in the booths and we cannot control it" while walking away from us. Now, in addition to all of this, they have the largest collection of overpriced racist memorabilia I've ever seen in my life. This was after buying our items, and quite honestly we were flabbergasted. The items were displayed casually throughout the store without even mentioning the racist origins of the objects. If it weren't for my friend purchasing some of the objects for research purposes they would have been distributed to collectors unwilling to acknowledge the political weight of the objects. Finally, while checking out one of the women refused to look or even talk to us. And this was after both of us had spent $100 each at the store. She seemed scared of us which was incredibly confusing. If you're interested in seeing the most unabashed display of racism though items and attitude, you will not want to miss this location. read more

Absolute beautiful place with great antiques, but they know the worth of their antiques. You aren't getting a deal here, you are just looking at really cool stuff. Cast iron pan, $100. Roasting pan $355. I literally didn't see a steel or bargain on a single antique, but cute to look. read more

The minute I walked in, I knew I was in the right place. It smelled just like those antique barns my dad used to take us to when we were kids. Actually, we called them "junk barns". They were huge, dark, cold, smelly and full of crazy stuff my dad used to haul home. All my childhood furniture came from places like this. This place is just like I remembered. There are two Bettys working the front, which has some of the finer selections from the plethora of dealers who rent booths here. Lots of good oak furniture, clocks, dishes, books, jewelry....and that's not the half of it! There is a sort of bar/restaurant there, too, but it was not open at 9:30am on a Saturday morning. It's right off exit 420 on I-80, open 9am-8pm daily. I am coming back when I have a house to put some of this stuff in, like George Carlin said. read more

This place is right by the freeway advertising itself with big signs, obviously wanting tourists to stop and shop. Well, they apparently only want certain kinds of tourists, because the staff were strangely stiff, fake and unfriendly with us. Oh, could this be because we brought a preschooler with us into an antique mall? Well, a family stops together when traveling. My husband and I know how to reign in the petite one. This is definitely one of the biggest antique malls I've seen; if you go and you feel comfortable in this place allow yourself plenty of time to examine everything. Also bring a full wallet. The cafe inside is a unique idea and one of the features that made us decide to stop. I thought it looked uninviting and amateurish actually, but I probably would've chosen something to eat if the person there hadn't been unfriendly. Mark this place off if you want something family friendly. read more

This antique mall is a very nice size. Good signage. Many booths and most have a nice selection. Every booth is WAY OVER PRICED!! They apparently want tourists but their staff are not very friendly and kind of stiff, like they did not want us inside with our children. Well I have news for you families traveling don't leave kids in the car. My question is Is their booth rental over priced to compensate? read more

Aside from some of the dealers being pricey, there are also a lot that aren't. Last summer I decided that I wanted flowers in my new apartment and on my deck. They say that plants really help create a zen like feel in a home, plus they help you breathe better. It's very true. Platte Valley Antique Mall had/has a very very large number of flowering pots. It's incredible. At first I was like, OMG, i'm not paying that. Then I hit a cheap dealer booth and it was ON like DONKEY KONG. I purchased 5-6 pots that day. I must have spent 3 hours in the place. There wasn't a booth I didn't search; not a piece of carpet I didn't walk on. It's awesome. I love the fact that you can take your items up to the counter & they will put them on a shelf for you and hand you a number for when you are ready to check out. Every single item is carefully wrapped and placed in a box if necessary. I purchased a 2 foot planter. [________] HUGE! I believe I only paid 20.00 for it and it's at least 60's. It's the longest i've ever seen in person. They are rare. Now, don't get me wrong... this place has a lot of other things... but if you're an avid gardner or a home decorator and need some neat old pots, GO HERE. Don't go to Walmart or Menards. You may save money elsewhere, but you won't get that great mom & pop feel when you leave. That kind of feeling is what keeps me sane. ;-) read more

Mmm. This place had a lot of stuff, some very interesting things. But a lot of it was honestly just ugly....I don't know how else to put that. They had some quality stuff but very expensive place. Many unique items. Yes prices can be high on some items but there are bargains if you are willing to look for them. One of the few places in the country that you can call and ask if they have a certain item. When the staff is not busy they will look for it and call you to tell you what they have. They also have a want list that is reviewed from time to time by staff and vendors. If your item comes in they will call you. They can arrange for shipping too! Usually there is a member of the staff wondering the mall and interacting with customers. Helpful unlike some malls were most staff stays at the front desk. As for people with children, they need to watch them as these places have a lot of expensive breakables and children love to play with things. The restaurant is great. Some what limited menu. $5.00 - $6 for a hot sandwich with a side, yum. Free coffee, tea, and water. food is good, no prepackaged stuff here. Local veggies when in season. Omaha has plenty of nationally known restaurants, but this one is just fine. Full bar for those who like to imbibe. They have reference books to look stuff up in. Wifi also, although the Wifi can be a bit slow at times. Nice place for lunch. You can look around while it is being prepared. Good food takes time. Lots of items of historical interest. Some in bad taste, some really humorous. Some are down right gaudy. Some of the items you would only see in museums. But here you can buy them. Well worth the time to visit. read more

Bad customer service, was passing though decided to stop look around. They have a restaurant/ bar area so we sat down had a drink gave the bar tender a tip and the manger maybe owner came over to him and said you need to put that in the drawer! Just OK. Rather small for an antique mall and prices are higher in general than they should be for this area. We have been going there for a couple years and most of the booths still have the same items. Parking is ample and staff is helpful. read more
