Came back 5 months later with my nephews visiting town and it is just as fantastic as before! Ownership is cheery and the space is very well maintained, everything clean and safe!

My kid loves this place ! We went for a b-day party and ended up coming back for to enjoy more play time with mommy. The place is organized and seems like the staff pays attention to cleanliness and crowd. A little pricey for 1.5 hrs of play but it's nice to have an option around the neighborhood if you're looking for something fun to do with your LO.

    Chicago fire department theme!

Play street museum was a much needed addition to the neighborhood! I like that you sign up for a specific play time so you know they limit how many kids will be there and they clean in between. My 2 year old had a lot of fun here and they even give a free snack at the end. The Chicago and South Loop theme is such a cute touch. It is in a great location with a coffee shop, stores, and food near by in the Roosevelt Collection. They offer free validated parking! Highly recommend bringing your young kids here when wanting to get out of the house!

I'm from Houston, Texas and didn't like how we had to pay a non-residential entrance fee, which is more expensive. I feel like there should only be one flat fee. Also, the ticket price is so expensive, especially since we have to pay for the children AND adults. I mean, it's a children's museum so the adults HAVE to be there to accompany them. It's not like the adults come to play on their own. We come to play with the child. I just feel like adults should be free, or at least only pay like $5. On a normal day, it would not be reasonable to come here. I did see that they are hosting a Family Day when tickets are about $5 a person; that is an amazing deal and is so worth it. The hours are so short! We came on Thursday when the hours are 10-2pm. We came in at 11:30pm and I felt like we didn't have enough time! My boys wanted to play more; I wish we had come in earlier. So if you plan on going, I recommend going at 10am when they open, especially if you're going to pay full price. I didn't like how the hours are short and when it came to closing time, stations were shutting down early. At 1:45pm, the Cloud Buster exhibit was closed, which was disappointing because my boys wanted to go in there. A lot can happen in 15 minutes, so I didn't like that. The staff were all incredibly nice, sweet, and patient, though! They all kept their cool and were great at encouraging my boys, especially when climbing the Schooner. The museum reminds me of Montessori school, where it teaches independent play and discovery. I wish it included some facts and interactive play that reinforces the subject, like at a science museum. Overall, my two boys had a blast. They really enjoyed the "Play It Safe" and "Water City" exhibits. My favorite was Michael's Museum. I appreciated all the small messages of advice and reminders for parents in all play areas. It encouraged us and helped us understand the reasoning behind how children play or the purpose of the activity. From a child's perspective, this place is AMAZING, so I'm glad my boys enjoyed it.

I can not imagine 59 men packed into a sub with 1 bathroom and sharing bunk space. I'm slightly claustrophobic but the tour was only about 30 minutes and the distance toured was short. I can't imagine living on it for an extended period. We spent about 2 extra hours touring the rest of the museum but it must have been a field day for local schools, as it was packed with children. My second favorite exhibit was touring the Pioneer Zephyr train.

We went on Good Friday, lots of kids were off of school. We got the first time slot! Highly recommend this! The place is self guided and you can always go back to feel some more! If you think about germs and are easily grossed out, there's plenty of hand sanitizer around, or bring your own! But everyone is basically reaching in to feel the same slime you are. There's a small area the kids can take their shoes off and play in. Some squishes and slime they can go into (it's hard and doesn't stick to clothes!). They also have the "get slimed" station. I believe it's $30 and from the looks of it, it's just blue water. Didn't seem worth it to me. But my kids loved watching! The best part is being able to make your own slime! You can pick the consistency, smell and color! And as an added bonus you can pick out 3 charms! There's no food or drinks allowed in and they have a complimentary coat/bag check! Take a picture of your bag in case you drop your ticket! In addition, I find it hilarious that people are complaining about the price. Of course the place raises the price during peak hours. Now do I think $56 for a ticket is steep, yes! But plan ahead and always purchase tickets ahead of time! We paid $135 for 3 and were there almost 3 hours! We only left because we had lunch reservations!

There's even a sprinkle pool at the end that you can jump into. In the museum, you can have unlimited ice cream and, honestly, their ice cream was delicious, smooth, and creamy we first tried a seasonal flavor, the lavender honey, and I was actually surprised by how yummy it was. It balanced both the honey and lavender well; the lavender flavor was not overwhelming and the honey helped with the smoothness of the cream. There's a cocktail bar there, so we also got the 'Cherry on Top' drink and an espresso martini. Honestly both tasted pretty standard. In the exhibits, we tried the ice cream hot dog, where the mustard and relish were actually real mustard and relish. Surprisingly, the savory components paired well with the vanilla ice cream and the bun itself was soft and chewy. I also tried a flavor called "playdoh", it was yellow colored with some chewy candy-like elements in it. Just tasted like vanilla, the candy elements were mildly sweet and added texture. Honestly was pretty tasty, just because the quality of the ice cream was just that good. Overall, a goofy and scrumptious time, I wish we had more time to eat more of the ice cream flavors. Would definitely go again and take my time.

Last time I was here I was amused to see the grocery store was a Whole Foods and the sandwich shop was a Potbelly's, but I guess those sponsorships have expired and everything's kind of generic now. Kids won't care but I thought it was fun. The main draw of this place is the sheer amount of variety they have. Kids can play with toy cars, instruments, water, trains. They can paint, build things, read. They can pretend to be a vet, build a house, grocery shop, run a sandwich shop (oh I guess I mentioned those). There's a whole bunch of little science-y things, and some areas that rotate periodically. Toddlers and young kiddos have a blast, but I feel it'd be hard to keep older kids engaged. It also feels pretty pricy, especially charging parents, though I didn't know you could save a couple bucks buying online ahead of time. Parking is mostly easy but it is a popular place so be prepared to have to do some conflict resolution at times.

However, it is no longer the case as of the summer of 2025. Now with our DCM family circle membership, we will receive a 50% discount from the full general admission fee. It is still a good deal. Our girls would usually spend at least two hours here. We have visited Kohl several times over the years and I generally find it best to arrive at the early morning, members-only hour because there will be less people and less chaotic. And also because we have visited so many times during different months, we noticed they rarely change up the exhibits.

The 1st exhibit included water play, which our kids loved, but def bring a change of clothes for when they get wet. There is another water play zone on the 1st floor next to the play area as well. The highlight of our visit was the Butterly Haven. It's very beautiful and I honestly could sit there forever watching butterflies flutter around. They release butterflies daily at 2pm, but we didn't see that. We also enjoyed the digital interactive butterfly exhibit, where kids color a butterfly on paper, scan it, and it appears fluttering on a giant digital screen. Street parking was full, but there is a small lot across the street from the entrance and it was $24 to park. It was a short walk to the entrance. The gift shop is super cute and has snacks/drinks, but nothing fresh-made (mostly pre-packaged options). They have tables & high chairs near the entrance for snacking/resting. Also family restrooms, stroller parking, & an elevator. Super kid/family friendly and we'll definitely be back!
