Had a great meal at Playa Azul. This restaurant was very busy when I went in for dinner. The staff was very kind when seating me and taking my order. The chips and salsa were not my favorite. The chips were a bit hard and the salsa was bland, not much flavor and no heat. Now the Pollo Feliz was a different story. This dish was fantastic and would go back just to eat it again. It had flavor and was a filling meal. I did order the Flan as well for dessert. I probably shouldn't have as I was only able to eat a few bites. However, the flan was also really good and apparently runs out as my waitresses had to check to make sure they had any. read more

My brother, sister in law, 9 month old nephew, and I met my dad, stepmother, and my uncle here yesterday for my 50th birthday celebration week meal !!! I was so glad to see everyone together! It was a hot, humid day, but I was happy to be inside this nice, clean restaurant! Upon entering, I was able to get glasses of iced water, Sprite, and chips and salsa. These workers here were very nice, great customer service! For lunch, I had a $9.00 taco, 2 enchiladas, and rice plate. They brought more chips and salsa, too. I was glad that the salsa wasn't very spicy today as it was so hot outside. I used the salsa on my chicken taco, my 2 ground beef enchiladas, and on the awesome rice that they make! This great meal, with family, at a new place was the most perfect combination for a birthday celebration! I also appreciated clean men's restroom. Don't let the exterior scare you away. This is a great stop for Mexican in Beatrice. Ok, lets be honest here. There aren't a lot of options in this town. Like, at all. But there are a few places, including another Mexican restaurant, and somehow we ended up here. I don't know if it's above and beyond anything I've ever had before but it was good, served hot, low prices and the service was great. I'm a Mexican food addict. I'll eat damn near anything that consists of meat, lettuce, cheese, and tortillas. Playa has me doubting my ability to eat anything. Playa is really popular in Beatrice. I think it's because they were the only Mexican joint for awhile. Now they have competition yet Playa has not upped their game. The restaurant feels messy, the service is apathetic, and the food tastes like reheated frozen food. Not cool. But wait, there's more. They are the only place I know of that refuses to do take-out margaritas. This is a sin I can't forgive. I need a hefty dose of tequila with my chimichanga! We stayed in Beatrice for 1 night and were not sure where to go for dinner. Most places had about 3 stars in yelp so we decided to drive around town. The parking lot at Playa Azul was pretty full so it looked like the locals were coming here. And we understand why! The place is larger than I thought it would be and nothing fancy. Food was amazing! Especially for the price. I had the Steak Feliz; my husband pollo mazatlan. Both were very flavorful and came out quick. Service was good too. So would definitely recommend. read more

So. Where do I start. The chips that were given to us were unsalted, so we asked for salt and we did not get salt. The salsa was sweet tasting, but i guess to each their own because we are used to having salsa with some kind of spice, not soupy sauce. The waiter took our order and when we got our food, every single order was wrong. The waiter was told about the orders and when he went to correct them, he brought new plates back and they were still wrong. The enchiladas tasted like chef boyardee ravioli from a can. The sauce on top of the enchiladas smelled like tomato sauce from a can and even tasted like it could have been on spaghetti. I would not have been able to tell the difference. You can literally make better mexican food in the comfort of your own home than come here and eat this. Taco John's has more mexican taste than this place. Moral of the story, I would never eat here again and it makes me not want to eat at any other mexican restaurant in the state of Nebraska because of my first experience for Mexican food here. read more

Met a friend here for lunch today. Pretty busy at noon on a Thursday. The menu was 5 pages long and have many lunch and daily specials. Including 32oz beers for $1.50. I tried the beef fajitas and my friend got the LA Famosa combination. Mine was lacking any spiciness and I had to ask for Jalapeños and if they had any hot sauce. Which, by the way, came about the time we were finishing our lunches. Been a couple times now. Good chips and salsa. Really good playa Azul fajitas (steak, chicken, shrimp). Wish the portion had more green peppers and onions, but it definitely had enough protein. My mom always brings me here when I come to visit her in Kansas. Being from San Francisco, I have pretty high standards when it comes to food. This place is fabulous! I love that they have fresh avocado available for many of their dishes. Avocado is a must have for me! Also, their margaritas are delicious and an excellent deal! It does kinda disturb me how BRIGHT GREEN they are, but what can you expect when it's served out of a slushie machine? This place is not as spicy as I'm used to getting in California, but that's okay because I'm not a big fan of spiciness. I got a chicken tostada with poblano peppers, it was delicious and enormous. The place is not worth going, at least to judge from the one time we did, on recommendation from our motel. We certainly can't second that. Our waiter was very abrasive in his manner, and not at all friendly. He forgot to bring the tableware, which we had to ask for, and we never got plates to share our appetizer. He also wisked away my empty beer glass without ever asking me if I wanted another one, even if I had mentioned that already when I ordered the first one. The appetizer was good, as was my main course. But my wife's beefsteak was way too much overdone. Parts of it were simply burned black. And she also got sour cream with her tacito, something she doesn't like, and which was not mentioned on the menu. The food was what you would expect in a small town Mexican restaurant. It was above mediocre but for sure microwaved and pre-made. I had the steak burrito dinner and the plate was so hot I couldn't rotate it. The only way you can get a plate that hot is if you microwave it. They had the driest carne asada taco I've ever had, it tasted like it was seasoned by a white lady who had high blood pressure, and diabetes. Great, great Mexican restaurant in little Beatrice. Actually some of the best I've had and I've had a LOT of places. Quickly seated, got drinks, ordered, and got piping hot fresh food in minutes. Barely time for chips and salsa. Salsa was very tomato-y, which is a good thing, imho. Tomato, a little cilantro, tiny bit of heat. Chips, meh. Not hot and not fried, or at least I don't think they were fried there. Really the only disappointment. I like fresh, hot, fried chips. No matter what i get the first time I'm at a new Mexican restaurant I also get a tamale. Wow! First of all, it was big. The tamale was fluffy but firm enough to hold in a large amount of very tender shredded beef. And the meal was slightly sweet and had a great red sauce over it. The shredded beef tasted great on its own too. Really good. Enchiladas suizas, three tortillas filled with delicious cheese and covered with pork and a green tomatillo sauce. Succulent pork! I love the green sauce. The beans, the beans were real, cooked there that day. They were creamy and bean-y! Not pasty crap you find in almost every other Mexican restaurant - these are great! Stayed one night at Beatrice on May 4. Sent here as the reviews were decent and there were cars in the parking lot. Hostess was unfriendly. Not a smile or a hello or anything. Waited at table for almost 20 minutes! I beckoned the waiter who in no uncertain terms to me to "Just wait a minute. I'm busy!" OK. About 10 minutes later almost throws some chips on the table. No menu or silverware or anything. Then, lying under I do not remember what I see a QR code. It would have been nice if someone had said, we don't have menus! I hate having to use the QR reader. Food came and dumped on the table with not one word. Food was hot and tasty. I had frijitas. Went to pay and hostess still had same poor attitude. It is the first time in a long, long time I seriously considered no tip, but said to myself, that there was no need for me to be a jerk, too.
