I don't think these reviewers ate at the same restaurant that I did. Taco Bell is better. What's with these Gringofied Mexican joints and their greasy, soupy taco meat. El Toro's the same way. The chicken and picadillo were OK, but everything else had absolutely no ZIP. The beans and rice were so bland, I had to soaked them in Tapatio. Don't believe the hype. read more

The service was sup par, however, if it was just for that it would have still gotten a 3-4 out of 5. The worst thing was that there were TWO pieces of hair in our of our dishes. The hair did not match any of ours and the server claimed to us that it was from our jacket, which was a different color and told us that the cooks did not have any hair. Of all the Mexican restaurants in the Puyallup area we've tried, Playa Azul is by far our favorite. The service is always great. Waiters and staff super friendly. The food is delicious and super fast. Great lunch specials and dinner prices are not abnormal. This is our go to for Mexican Food. So good. read more

Last year I left my new iPhone in one of the booths and after frantically looking for it, I called the restaurant inquiring if they had seen the phone...and the manager said "I was waiting for your call. I had no way to contact you but waited to see you again so I could return your phone to you".... I read the other reviews and I'm left wondering why some of you rated the food so well? I can only figure that these people have either never had any REAL Mexican cuisine, or that they prefer the over-Americanized, spice less, over-cheesed glop that they serve here. For crying out loud, they can't even make a proper Chile Relleno!!! I was served a hard omelet with a small 'canned' chile and a ton of cheese. Nothing was seasoned or had any spice at all. Even the two salsas, which were served with the chips, had no detectable heat. One was just red tomato sauce with a couple of onions and the other was just some blended tomatillos and onion. Even the Margaritas tasted like mix only and no booze!! Needless to say I was left very disappointed. I won't be going back. Even cheap chains like Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta are better and I won't eat there either. Ugh! Please people go out and have some REAL Mexican food so that you can tell the difference!!! read more

I called to cancel an order and received rude response. The person who answered the phone was rude and told me that I couldn't cancel and what were they going to do with the food and the credit card was already charged and they would not refund it. We order lunch from Playa once a month and will NEVER purchase food from them again. read more

Friendly staff, quiet atmosphere, good quick service. Kids were not big fans of the quesadilla. Meat was too mushy. Loved my enchiladas.

Wonderful staff- always friendly and welcoming. Food is good, for those who like more spice it might not hit your taste buds but overall good prices, portions , taste. Like most places here the chilie relleno is more the egg "omelet style and not the battered style I love but never had a canned chili in it. Super sad. This used to be our fav Mexican restaurant. Tonight we got orders to go, not only was it not the price we thought but it was flavorless and the smallest portion i have ever seen. I got a # 18 and there was hardly any meat, maybe a scoop of beans and an obscene amount of rice. The chimichanga was all tortilla and not even deep fried. I know that getting it to go can leave it soggy but this was a sorry excuse. My husband got chicken fajitas, hardly any chicken and the veggie mix was almost all onions. The super nachos was all cheese a handful of chips and burnt beans. I regret spending the money we did, (which we didn't have, but this was a special treat) especially when you can get better food off the taco truck. read more

Great place to eat as long as you don't get an order to go. Seems like every time we get an order to go something is left out. We always get an apology but that doesn't pay for the gas or the cold food if you go back to pick up what they forgot in the first place, I will eat a pb&j sandwich before I order to go with them. read more
