One of my friends had been here once before and suggested we all meet here for dinner. The parking lot was pretty packed, and we were lucky to all be able to get parking spots. I thought we better go reserve a table for the five of us. But when we walked in, we were confused because the restaurant was pretty much empty, only two tables were occupied with customers. We sat ourselves and were given chips and salsa while we looked over the menu. I do like that they give you a variety of salsa with the chips, except the chips wasn't warm or didn't taste as fresh as some of the other Mexican restaurants. I ordered my favorite Mexican dish, Camarones a la Diabla, and had the option of making it hot instead of mild, which I did. I asked if I could get black beans instead the refried beans, but they didn't have that, so I just got all rice instead. My Camarones a la Diabla had good flavor, and I like their rice better than any other Mexican restaurant I've been to. My friends were satisfied with their food. Still my favorite place to go to when I want "authentic traditional" Mexican food ... this is not a Tex-Mex restaurant. The menu select is pretty large and everything is always prepared well, with great portions. I find the food here simply taste better than other so-call Mexican restaurants. I really like their new facility, even though they are now a little further away from where I live. The staff is still great and I think the ambiance here is better the their previous location ... it is still comfortable to dine in (not noisy or have blaring music). They do have a full bar and a very good selection of Tequila and Mezcal. There is plenty of parking. Bottom line ... while the prices are a bit on the higher side, I believe the value of the experience is worth it. read more

This was a great find! I had El Charrito on my "to try" list and was glad that this meal adventure proved to be rewarding! When I got seated I got a very generous amount of chips and several kinds of dips which were enjoyable. It's not hard to have fun with tortilla chips and salsa! What I ordered off of the menu was their taco salad. Asada (steak) for the meat choice. The steak was prepared quite well and had a great flavor to it. The taco salad also had a great sour cream which was also delicious. It was a lot thicker and not watery or runny like some versions of it can be. I couldn't eat all of the salad and it kept pretty well as leftovers into the next day. The staff and service was very good and friendly. Where to start? The menu is expansive, be sure to check the pictures on the wall as well. Inside its nice and clean. They have a nice happy hour special. On to the food. The chips are fresh and served with 3 different salsas all have a different level of bite. I ordered a Adobada taco and a Wet Asada burrito. The taco was delicious and the meat was tender and flavorful. Next time I will order more than one. On to the burrito. It looked small but it wasn't. How can they pack so much meat in? It felt like eating a two story burrito. And it has rice and beans but they spread it out in the tortilla so you got a little in each bite instead of plopping it on top then rolling it up. My family and I came here after visiting the Christmas lights in Spanaway. What a waste of 70.00. Chips were stale. The cheese enchiladas were not melted and when we asked them to melt it came back rubbery. One of the salsa was so hot I choked and nothing to drink. I had to ask for water. When we got our soda it was in a bottle served with no cup or ice. My husband ordered a steak chimichanga which was the size I would serve a child. It wasn't fried enough no golden color and had meat only in it no cheese, beans or anything inside. My overall experience was that we had poor service and had to ask for everything. She would bring chips for a refill but no salsa. We got so tired of asking we just stopped. read more

This was the most disgusting thing's I've had happen to me I'd rather have bad food then have this happen..... weI sat down asked for water I went and took a drink of my and they had given me a USED STAW. On top of it the waiter did not apologize nor did he do anything to make the situation better he grab my glass walked away with it came back with a new cup of water and a straw that was not in my cup this time it was wrapped he said here it's fine now it's all better. Not better to me. I waited to see again if he was going to say anything no comment I looked at my husband and he said what do you want me to cancel your food my husband said yes he got angry and walked away what excuse do you have when you give a customer a used straw and then you're rude to them on top of it this is a very sad place to go and eat I would not trust anything they fed me I'm going to have a whole new outlook on what I order or what I drink when I go out to eat or even if I want to ever go out again. read more

One of the most underrated Authentic Mexican places in the area. It pains me to write this but it has to be, the food here is fantastic! It's right on the cusp of a busy intersection so that's probably why it might get skipped. Hard to find breakfast is offered here and the menus is diverse enough to keep you coming back. The marinated pork torta...awesome. The beef tongue tacos....melt in your mouth. If the two different kinds of salsa they gave me for my chips was any indication of what was ahead, I was ready to get down. And get down my friends I did. I have often visited this place with out of town family and to get burritos to go for lunch. The portions are hearty and plentiful. The various salsas add to the flavorful mix, and the service and ambience is like being in a real cantina. My only gripe is that I once bought a wet burrito to go and paid on my Discover Card, When I got back to work I saw I was charged $50.00 for a $8.00 burrito. I went back to the store to notify them and was told the owner was out but would get back to me. Don't usually travel out of my comfort zone for foods. Really wanted some tacos and it looked pretty good from parking lot. Lol. Walked in and immediately greeted and given option to pick anywhere to sit. Wet welcoming atmosphere. Asked to order to go. So many options in menu so my husband just asked for simple tacos. Great Food, Generous Portions, Low Prices, Friendly Service, Authentic. Here's the break-down: The Food: I have lived in Los Angeles my whole life and was shock to discover that authentic Mexican restaurants are very hard to come by here in Washington. When it comes to authenticity this place is as close to the level I am accustomed to my whole life. Let's start with the quality of the food. You know a restaurant is good when they do their Asada right. Often times asada can be bland and stringy, but El Charrito gets it right on my every visit - the meat is juicy, tender, and flavorful (I always gets a side of Asada Taco on top of my meal for both nostalgia as well as to ensure that the restaurant is on-par with my expectations). I have had everything from Tortas to seafood to chicken at this place, and the food ALWAYS lives up to my picky expectations. They also have a very extensive menu which includes a lot of dishes that I have never heard of let alone seen before back home in LA. The portions are very generous and the tortillas they serve are homemade, always warm and soft upon arriving at your table. Prices: NOT OVERPRICED like a lot of the Mexican restaurants I have tried in Federal Way, which always get me cursing after every first (and last) visit. To put the prices into perspective, here are El Charrito's prices as I remember them on my most recent visit a few days ago: Tacos con Asada - $1.65, Torta con Asada (HUGE!!!) - $7, Camerones a la Diabla - $10. The last item on here is like a spicy shrimp dish, served with rice, beans, salad, and warm tortillas. Anywhere else you go to (even in LA) you can easy spend up to $12~$15 dollars for a dish with as hefty of a portion as this place. They gave me at least 12 shrimps and by the time I boxed my leftovers I have about 8 or 9 shrimps on my plate. Long story short, you get A LOT for what you pay for, and what you're paying for is less than what you would spend for the same dish at another restaurant. Service: This restaurant is a mom-and-pop hole-in-the-wall kind of operation. It's not heavily packed and the service is friendly and great. On a side note, you don't need to be a Spanish speaker to order at this restaurant. All in all, if you want fake American-tailored Mexican food I suggest you go somewhere else. If you want authentic Mexican food this is your place to be. 5/5 read more

I was looking for a taco truck in the neighborhood and used yelp to try and find one on the way home from work and found this location instead. Not a taco truck but a actual full restaurant, which is fine by me. Looked pretty authentic but I was craving some good ole lengue tacos and scored here. Hallelujah finally a place in Washington that knows how to make something spicy!!! The chips and salsa are the best I have yet to find! They give you a wide option of salsa to chomp on while waiting for your meal. Chips are perfectly salty and crunchy...salsa options range from your watered down mild stuff (you find this EVERYWHERE up here), genuine liquid free pico de gallo, a chipotle salsa (not a fan personally), a very spicy verde sauce, and a slightly less spicy avocado sauce...My taste buds were singin with the verde!!! Ordered take out- three enchiladas with rice and beans. Nothing fancy, and that's what I got ( definitely not fancy) for $10.99. I was pretty disappointed in the portion sizes of rice and beans. This place doesn't look like much on the outside but on the inside it was truly one of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. I loved the authenticity from the food to the music. And OMG THE MANGOS! And I don't know how our bill was only $30 with all we ordered. The service was wonderful and I felt terrible when I had planned on leaving a generous tip but it's not possible with a credit card option and I didn't have much for cash. I expected this to be like the other El Charrito I've been to, but it definitely isn't the same!! The service here is AWFUL, my food arrived cold, and we waited 20 minutes to pay and ended up just walking to the front even after we asked and still no one cashed us out so we had to stand up there and wait... If you're a vegetarian, there also aren't any veggie options listed on their menu like every other Mexican restaurant. If you're looking for great service and great Mexican food, go to the other El Charrito right past 176th & Pacific! read more

So far don't see the high ratings... got to be family/ friends..I'm 1 of 2 customers... OMG. Slow plus gad to ask 2 times just to get water. chips the worst along with the little bowls if dip... I don't know what the problem is back there after about 25 minutes after ordering a chili rwllano ALa carte . And if you know about chile rellenos they're made a head, all they have to do is warm them up. I went to the bathroom came back stood there for a while next to my booth cuz I hurt to sit there any longer finally the girl at hollered to the girl in the back and a little bit latter she brought out a plate with a cold chile relleno and some lettuce on it and said she's about to warm it up you still want her to.
