Go to playa wayyyy to often but always so good!! Usually switch off between power bowl and Nutella bowl, should definitely branch off and try new bowls. This location can get busy so I do order ahead usually. Pricey bowls but such a great treat! read more

I was in the mood for some Playa Bowls. Not the first time eating a Playa Bowl but definitely the first time at this location in Hoboken. Well it was a lovely experience say the least. Cute decorations just like their other Playa Bowls location. My boyfriend and I shared a Nutella Açaí bowl because let's be honest, i can't eat one alone since they are pretty generous. The Nutella açaí now is my favorite because it has strawberries, banana, granola and coconut. We decided to stay and eat it there. They do have seats were you can sit indoors. Make sure to social distance as that is still important. I can't wait to go back and try a different bowl. Even though the Nutella one was delicious and is still my favorite! I don't really like to leave negative reviews but some times it is well deserved. Don't get me wrong here, the problem is not the playa bowls. They're great. The problem is the service. This seems to be a trend with playa bowls- the Hoboken location being the worst. They hire people who have no idea how to deal with a rush of orders. They get flustered and what you end up with is rude, unbothered service. Just walked out of this location feeling terrible because of being treated badly by the flustered staff (who have clearly not been trained). Walked into another establishment for tacos, and was greeted with smiles and good service and it made this place look ten times worse. Do better you guys and gals...or take some lessons from some spots around you. read more

Came here for a quick dessert and this is my first time getting an açaí bowl! I got half power bowl and half electric mermaid bowl. This was recommended by the worker there and it was a great choice! I actually liked the power bowl more cause it has a banana based flavor which was delicious! The kiwis were really soft and juicy and it stuck out to me for some reasons haha! I come here pretty often to get acai or kale bowls. My favorite is the pacific or hemp bowl. The bowls are large and delicious. I often ask them to go light on the honey or agave- I like it a little less sweet than normally prepared. The staff is very nice. There are a few tables inside. They used to have outdoor seating before vid. Kind of weird they don't have table outside any more. The volume of the music inside is usually way too loud for the kind of business it is. read more

MOLDY BOWLS! I went to Playa Bowls in Hoboken at least once a week and left a generous tip every time I went. On 3/24/21 at about 5:30 I ordered my usual bowl. The vibes in the place were terrible. Staff was very tense and clearly agitated. So, I didn't tip. I was then served a bowl covered in green mold and had to throw away my meal when I got back to my apartment. I have never written a review for a place. This was so disgusting, I had to. I made a yelp account only for this reason. Being from Hawaii, I have pretty high expectations when it comes to acai bowls and Playa Bowls was better than I expected! I ordered the Power Bowl with strawberries instead of bananas and almond butter instead of peanut butter. The acai smoothie was tasty and super thick, which is how I like it! Portions and toppings were pretty generous as well. I got hungry a few hours later though, so I wouldn't say it's sufficient for a meal if you're hungry. A great spot for breakfast or lunch if you're looking for a relatively healthy and fresh meal. The pitaya bowls are best in my opinion as they're packed with the most flavor and have the brightest color. The dragonberry with nutuella is my go to! The workers are very kind and helpful but my order was made incorrectly. It was still good but not exactly what I ordered. And finally, I'm surprised there isn't a place to recycle the plastic bowls at the restaurant. Everything is made out of plastic and just thrown into the garbage can-I think that's pretty wrong. Looking at the other reviews I feel like I'm over doing it with the stars but I haven't found a reason to give them less. I used to get my bowls from elsewhere but then I came here. Just the variety alone they get 4 stars. I was pleased to know it wasn't just açaí or pitaya base. There's coconut base, green base, banana base, and a chia pudding base. I'm all for that chia pudding base especially if you are looking for a no banana option. The bowls are plentiful and blended well. There are so many options and toppings that there's something there for everyone. The prices range from 8-10 which is good for the variety. I really like Playa Bowls. I don't have a ton of reference for açaí bowls since I only started eating them this year. My favorite thing about Playa Bowls is that the base of the bowl is not restricted to açaí. I often get the banana or coconut base. I strongly recommend the banana base. Then I get a bowl that has nuts, fruits, and a sweet drizzle that really rounds out the taste. The ingredients always taste very fresh. Wanted this to be better, which is totally disappointing. Let me explain why: I had tried some of their mini bowls as a sample wen they came to Urban Souls' opening (the yoga studio upstairs). I loved that they had more bowl bases (meaning not just pitaya and açaí, but also coconut, a greens base, and I think a banana one too). My husband and I went to get a bowl, and they were out of a lot of ingredients which was unfortunate (especially because they didn't flag it up front that they were out of anything in particular and once we asked for one thing they were out of, they didn't mention the others they were out of until we asked... and then it became a game of, so what do you have?). The good news is, and I don't know why they don't advertise this more, it's the same owner as Lizmonade-yes, the same hand crafted lemonade you get at the 14th street farmers market in the summer in Hoboken). The bad news is, on several occasions within the last month I went in there to get one, they were out of 4-5 key ingredients for most of their lemonades... that's even the worst part unfortunately... the frustrating piece is that I asked at the beginning of my last order, "is there anything (ingredients) you're out of to make the lemonades you have listed up here (on their menu board)?" 2 people said no, then As I proceeded to order, they started saying they were out of things one by one. Long story short-their service isn't the best, they should actively tell people what they're out of, or just make sure they run out less frequently of key ingredients! Nowadays they put less acai and you pay for ingredients that you swap for another which doesn't seem right but I'm ok to take that cost. I love playa bowls but this Hoboken location has changed for the worst. They have untrained young kids working there, that don't know how to make the smoothie bowls properly. It's great that they give young kids a job but they need proper training and supervision. Every time we have been to this location, our smoothie bowls are less than half of actual smoothie. I love the crunchy granola and a lot of fruit on top but I also want the full serving of the smoothie portion. My husbands smoothie bowl was worse than mine this time because his was less than half of smoothie but the little bit of smoothie that was in there was like a crushed ice slushie than a smoothie. I frequently visit this location and love one of the guys who is usually there; I believe he's a manager. Every time my boyfriend and I get a bowl when he is there, the smoothie base is just right and every topping we asked for is included. However, we just went on a Monday night and the girl behind the counter was cursing and seemed annoyed. The other employees were joking around. When my boyfriend and I received our bowls, the order was completely wrong. I had toppings missing. I asked for a light drizzle and instead it was drenched. My boyfriend's bowl had almost no smoothie base, but A LOT of granola. We brought our bowls back and they remade them. But this time, I asked them not to include the drizzle and add the cacao nibs that was missed last time. The girl behind the counter mentioned that the girl making the smoothies was training (but was unsupervised). She remade the bowl and added the drizzle that I asked to be removed and drenched it again. It was overflowing! They even drenched my boyfriend's bowl with what seemed like a quarter of a bottle of honey. The 3 stars are for lack of attentiveness and professionalism. We hope this is a one time occurrence as we do love Playa Bowl. But I will not be ordering from this location again, unless the guy is working. read more
