Playa Norte is an absolutely beautiful white sand beach not far from the hustle and bustle of the hotel zone in Cancun. With that said, the actual swimming space on the beach is so narrow that all you can really do is stand in one area with your friends. You're doing no swimming while at this beach. (We were lucky enough to take a boat that anchored right off the beach to allow for swimming there. I'm so grateful for that.
But if it's just the sand you're there for you are in luck because it's such a massively deep beach with plenty of space to spread out. There are some umbrellas and beach chairs out, but they're all rentals so be prepared to pay for those, bring your own, or just be out in the sun.
There are plenty of vendors roaming the beaches selling ice cream and trinkets. I will leave it up to you if that's a positive or a negative. I think a cold frozen treat on a hot beach day was great. Not so much with the souvenirs that looked like they were made in China.
In the end, I'm glad I got to experience Playa Norte. However, if I were to ever return to the island, I think I would spend more time elsewhere on the island than the beach. read more
